Posted April 20, 201015 yr I'm heading to Cleveland next week for a show at Peabody's and was wondering where a decent place to stay is nearby. I haven't spent more than a few hours in Cleveland, so i really don't know the lay of the land. TIA.
April 21, 201015 yr Peabody's is on East 21st street, right by Euclid. It is on the fringe of Downtown. You could stay anywhere Downtown or in University Circle using the BRT to travel Euclid Ave. Check out this site - http://www.downtownclevelandhotels.net/ Hope you have enough time to soak in a bit more than Peabody's. If music is your thing, there are multiple venues you could hop around to.
April 21, 201015 yr The Comfort Inn is the closest on Euclid and East 18th, however, I've read some reviews that says it was kind of dingy. West down Euclid closer to the center of downtown there are the the Wyndham which is very nice and the Holiday Inn Express. Also take a look at Embassy Suites on East 12th.
April 21, 201015 yr anyone know about this place? http://www.brownstoneinndowntown.com/ I have been intrigued since day 1. It is pretty close to peabody's . would not walk it but like a $3 cab ride.

That's one of those Baltimore-style rowhouses on Prospect. Those are awesome but I've never stayed there. My recommendation is the Holiday Inn Express on Euclid Avenue. It's in a renovated bank office building from the 1920s with an awesome lobby (check out the incredibly grand bank lobby to the left of hotel lobby as you walk in). The building was rehabbed about a decade ago, and it's closer to the action downtown (East Fourth, Public Square, Playhouse Square and right on the HealthLine -- a station is right out front). You can walk to Peabody's from there, but you'll pass through the one remaining dead zone of Euclid downtown--between East 9th and Playhouse Square/East 12th area. Prices on Tripadvisor for the Holiday Inn Express are as little as $109 per night. That's about as cheap as you'll find at this late date. I've had a business associate stay there who said it was a clean, quiet hotel. Another inexpensive but clean place to stay downtown is the Hampton Inn on East 9th at Superior. But it's in the middle of the financial district so the area is pretty dead after 7 p.m. The prices for next week are about $107 to $120 and I've had friends stay there who recommended it too. April 21, 201015 yr Thanks. I'll check on the Holiday Inn. Unfortunately, I won't be in town long enough to really check it out. The show is Tuesday night and i'll be back in Cincy by Wednesday afternoon. I will come up and check it out again. Especially once the 3C is done.
April 21, 201015 yr I 2nd the rec for the HI Express because it's right on Euclid, so easy to get back and forth on the Healthline. You might also consider the Hyatt in the Arcade, you can exit/enter on Euclid there as well, though they will likely be more expensive.
April 21, 201015 yr You can priceline the Hyatt....seen it go for as little as $45 bux. Actually you can price line pretty much any downtown hotel and be within a $5 cab ride from peabody's. You might get lucky and get the Hyatt or the HI.
April 21, 201015 yr Cleveland isn't the greatest cab town...BUT they do camp out at the hotels...and generally there is a pretty good presence downtown, but you will be on the fringe of downtown. Get the cell phone number of the first driver. call him when you are ready to leave Peabody's
April 21, 201015 yr If you stay at the Holiday Inn, a cab would be a waste of money. Just take the Healthline straight down Euclid if you don't want to walk the 10-15 blocks. Really, that goes for anywhere you might stay downtown. BTW, the Comfort Inn referenced above used to be "Swingos" which Kate Hudson referenced in "Almost Famous" as the coolest hotel in the whole Country. Definitely not true now (if it ever was) but thought I would just throw that out there.
April 21, 201015 yr wow...the healthline looks pretty awesome. That does sound better than any cab if we don't feel like walking. Thanks, folks. If any of you are heading to the live SmodCast there on Tuesday maybe we'll see you there.
April 21, 201015 yr Someone correct me if I am wrong, but I think you can get an RTA "transfer" whenever you buy a ticket... so you don't have to buy one ticket for the trip there and one for the ride back.
April 21, 201015 yr wrong being corrected. If you pay cash ($2.50), you will need to pay each time you get on a bus/train. If you buy and all day pass ($5.00) you can get on as many different times as you want in a 24 hour period. if you buy a 5 ride pass THEN you can transfer within 2.5 hours...it is built into the time stamp....of getting on the first bus/train. You CANNOT get back on the same bus/train, that is not a transfer. so if you get on the healthline to go out to the clinic, you can transfer to the red-line or a different bus within 2.5 hours but you cannot go to the Dr. and then get back on the healthline without paying for a second ride.

If any of you are heading to the live SmodCast there on Tuesday maybe we'll see you there. Those are your two best options. Forget the cab. April 30, 201015 yr Sorry, guys...we had to skip the trip as the old lady got a nasty flu bug that has been going around at work. Being the very nice guy that i am i decided to save the upholstery inside my car (i am going to be trading it in soon) and eat the tickets to the show. I really would like to get up to Cleveland and check it out soon. Maybe take in a game between the Tigers and the hated Tribe.
