August 4, 20177 yr Grand River Avenue is going on a road diet More bike lanes are coming to the city and another one of our very wide roads will be going on a diet. MDOT is hosting an open house for the public to give an overview on what’s to come for Grand River Avenue from Cass Avenue to I-94. This will start right around the bus station and Beacon Park, past the arena district and Motor City Casino, along Woodbridge, and past True North. Grand River is currently being resurfaced, so the protected bike lanes should go into effect fairly soon. The road will go from seven lanes of traffic down to five, with bike lanes and some parking. --- Also to notice on Cass, new bike lanes and bike boxes, a first for the city, are in the process of being painted. This gives cyclists a designated place to stop and turn left onto another street or simply wait for a green light to go straight through. Motorists are to stop behind the bike boxes at red lights. The bike boxes and lanes are bright green, much clearer than other bike lanes in the city. August 13, 20177 yr Detroit luring manufacturers to industrial park, vacant land Corey Williams, Associated Press Updated 7:19 am, Sunday, August 13, 2017 DETROIT (AP) — Inside a fenced construction site on Detroit's east side, heavy machines are digging, shoving and hauling away tons of dirt in preparations for the latest addition to the city's industrial landscape. Auto parts supplier Flex-N-Gate is expected to bring 750 jobs to Detroit when it completes its 350,000-square-foot (32,500-square-meter) plant at the Interstate 94 Industrial Park. It will join several other firms that are investing millions of dollars where only so many years ago manufacturing jobs were disappearing. The changes come as Detroit, like many other Rust Belt cities, looks to lure firms with just what they're looking for: vacant land where they can build and grow. August 22, 20177 yr New details, renderings for Gilbert's Monroe Block plan show huge ambitions Businessman Dan Gilbert’s ambitious goal of “going vertical” with new downtown towers looks about to become reality big time. Gilbert’s team plans to break ground in December on its Hudson’s site plan, an architecturally stunning mixed-use assemblage that will become Detroit’s tallest building. And Gilbert plans to follow that in early 2018 breaking ground on his Monroe Block project. September 8, 20177 yr very cool. i was just going to post something about it, but not that much. i really like how it makes an attempt to fit into the street level setting, whiich you can see on the last shot. instead of one long street wall, its broken up into three. and the rest seems to be turning out great too. there is a lot of thought being put into this arena.
September 8, 20177 yr I too am impressed by Little Caesar's Arena tight integration into the Woodward Ave streetscape. It looks like a ginant mixed-use building. Large sports arenas of this type usually are set far back with large entrance plazas where fans gather, usually to purchase tickets, food from food trucks, team memorabilia, programs, (and of course, hot tics from scalpers) etc...... The architecture of LCA is impressive, too... It looks like a low-slung office building with the windows-- obviously allowing lots of natural daytime light into the corridors. I also like the giant murals honoring Detroit Pistons' and Red Wings' greats (I'm hopeful Gilbert/Cavs will do the same in The Q makeover)... We'll definitely have to make it up to Motown for a Cavs-Pistons game at this fabulous new joint.
September 8, 20177 yr ^^I'm guessing the Piston's will be tough this year in their honeymoon with the arena. Cavs will have some tough games there.
