April 25, 201015 yr I think I've driven through that area a few times. If it's what I'm thinking of, it's weird. Lots of empty buildings, sketchy characters wandering around.
April 25, 201015 yr The Plain Dealer, Chinese Merchants Association building, small businesses, warehouses, light manufacturing, live/work loft conversions, bars/clubs.
April 25, 201015 yr I see this area as having good potential to fill up with many more lofts, apartments and small businesses. Its in a great location. Very close to downtown and directly west of Asiatown.
April 25, 201015 yr There is about 3 separate homeless shelters in that exact little area, which unfortunately, mainly consists of sexual offenders
April 25, 201015 yr You should really drive down there and see for yourself. While there are things that may turn you away from visiting the area (homeless shelters, rundown buildings, homeless people, etc), the area is still nice. There are a lot of other buildings that make the area stand out and appealing to those down there. I agree with urbanforever when they state, I see this area as having good potential to fill up with many more lofts, apartments and small businesses. Its in a great location. Very close to downtown and directly west of Asiatown. There is so much potential to the area and if you have never been, then again, I suggest you go visit. You never know what amazing thing(s) you may find! :)
April 25, 201015 yr Who runs the homeless shelters? I hate to say it, but IMO those need to be moved if we really want that area to thrive.
April 25, 201015 yr I agree that this is an interesting area. I am not sure I would live there, but I know several artists that love it.
April 26, 201015 yr Well, that area includes Superior - starting at 18th and going east, you have the PD on the north, and Tower Press building (Cafe Artefino) on the south. Then there are about four other buildings on the south side that have artist studios/lofts. Most of these buildings are about four or five stories tall. Typically around Memorial Day there is an Art Walk in the neighborhood, where you can go in and meet many of the artists. I haven't seen the promotions for this year's walk yet. On St Clair it is mostly one and two story service/warehouse light industry. There are two auto service departments that I believe are owned by the Motorcars chain. North of that are the homeless shelters - and during the day the shelterees walk down to the Catholic Charities building between 17th and 18 and Superior, and the County Welfare building at 16th, and generally do their best to make the area look bad.
April 26, 201015 yr Yeah, what I'm thinking of is Lakeside Rd. from about 12th St. eastward. Not an attractive area.
April 26, 201015 yr The homeless shelters are there in large part because they've been pushed out of every other neighborhood in Cleveland. If somebody could find a place in the city where their clients could take transit and be within a reasonable distance to the services that they need, I'm sure they would be glad to move (provided that they have the resources, 'natch). The homeless need to have shelter someplace (Aviation High was never a good arrangement) and if you talk to the business owners in the area, quite a few would admit that 2100 Lakeside has been a good neighbor, all things considered. There are programs at 2100 where their residents monitor the neighborhood and try to keep things tidy and safe as well as they can.
April 26, 201015 yr Its a good location, to bad the land isn't used for something better What do you have in mind? Superior through that area is very nice IMO. The rest of the area to the North of superior is basically light industrial or former industrial buildings now used for small offices. I know there are a couple calling centers on St. Clair (Dish TV notably). If CSU expands North as expected then the highlighted area (South of St. Clair) could probably support some nice new housing developments with some new bars/restaurants along Superior or Payne.

Im not sure i was just thinking that it could be used some way better then it is used now based on what other people were saying
