Posted April 26, 201015 yr Since I don't have class on Fridays, I decided to take a walk around campus and take some pictures.
April 26, 201015 yr Thanks A lot! I graduated from KSU many moons ago and most of these I recognize. Looks like there have been some great renovations (like Rockwell Moulton Hall). For some reason McGilvrey Hall was probably my favorite building there, partly due to its location on that slope on Lincoln St. And, hey, they've got a Five Guys. Was that a Burger King at one time? (Maybe it was before your time).
April 26, 201015 yr The new Five Guys used to be Susan's Cafe. I don't think that it used to be a Burger King, but I could be wrong.
April 26, 201015 yr That was it. I knew some people who lived in that blue house next door. Nice pics.
April 26, 201015 yr Great pics! I only graduated about 10 years ago, but only recognize maybe 1/2 the pictures. (excluding the closeups of flora and fauna) I guess I need to take a Bing Maps tour of the campus to see what's what.
April 27, 201015 yr Oh. My. God. They. Turned. Susans. Into. A. Burger. Joint. - sorry, I need a moment of silence on that one. Great photos - what especially impressed me was how you made Tri-Towers look appealing - that's no small feat! clevelandskyscrapers.com Cleveland Skyscrapers on Instagram
April 27, 201015 yr Are the 2 pics, after the shot with Lake/Olson Hall, of the new Johnson Hall and Kent Hall renovation?

That red fence is horrible Are the 2 pics, after the shot with Lake/Olson Hall, of the new Johnson Hall and Kent Hall renovation? Yes, Johnson Hall / Honors Dorms (if I'm not mistaken)

Yes, Johnson Hall / Honors Dorms (if I'm not mistaken), which turned out surprisingly well considering the design's of the Centennial Court Dorms. Nice shots Andrew
April 27, 201015 yr Great pics! I only graduated about 10 years ago, but only recognize maybe 1/2 the pictures. (excluding the closeups of flora and fauna) Thanks. The new Stopher and Johnson as well as the Centennials (residence halls) were built like 4 or 5 years ago and the same goes for the esplanade (the new path in front of the MAC), so I am not surprised that you don't recognize some things. Oh. My. God. They. Turned. Susans. Into. A. Burger. Joint. - sorry, I need a moment of silence on that one. Susan' went out of business and the building was empty for a little under a year, so, I am glad that Five Guys moved there. Great photos - what especially impressed me was how you made Tri-Towers look appealing - that's no small feat! Thanks, but Tri doesn't look too bad when you are far away from it, lol. The tree's around it are really pretty and when you're not up-close, you can't see the crumbling concrete and decrepit exterior of the building. :) Nice photos kiddo! Thanks! Kinda looks like Bowling Green State with hills...and a Five Guys. ...and fewer cases of STD's! :) Are the 2 pics, after the shot with Lake/Olson Hall, of the new Johnson Hall and Kent Hall renovation? Yes and no. The picture right after the one of Lake/Olsen is Stopher and Johnson and the next picture is mainly of the Cartwright renovation/addition with a tiny part of the Kent Hall renovation/addition shown on the left.
April 27, 201015 yr Yanni, we don't call them "dorms" anymore, that implies that the buildings are only places where one sleeps. They are now called "residence halls" because that is where one lives. lol. :)
April 27, 201015 yr Great post.... even if I am a little disappointed in the lack of "scenery" for a college campus in the springtime ;)
April 27, 201015 yr That's what I thought you meant and I feel like I should clarify that I took these on a Friday afternoon, meaning the "attractions" were either in class, recovering from the night before, or on their way home for the weekend.

I actually went back to visit about 7-8 years ago and saw the Centennials. I was amazed by that, (the whole area was just a parking lot when I left) and what they did with Eastway. (we were actually hoping to buy some greasy hamburgers and fries for old times sake) Everything else I saw at the time, was just about the same. Are the 2 pics, after the shot with Lake/Olson Hall, of the new Johnson Hall and Kent Hall renovation? Yes and no. The picture right after the one of Lake/Olsen is Stopher and Johnson and the next picture is mainly of the Cartwright renovation/addition with a tiny part of the Kent Hall renovation/addition shown on the left. I don't remember if the auditorium, between Kent Hall and Merrill Hall, had a name when I went there, but it wasn't Cartwright hall. I was thinking of the right place, though. 8-)
April 27, 201015 yr The 40th anniversary of the Kent State shootings will be next week. Is there anything planned?

Whatever makes them seem cooler for the kids, right?
April 27, 201015 yr The 40th anniversary of the Kent State shootings will be next week. Is there anything planned? The night before May 4th there is silent, candle light walk, which starts and ends in the Taylor Hall parking lot. The day of May 4th classes after 12 are cancelled and there is a May 4th event held by the victory bell. Both events are open to the public.

Are they still doing that memorial museum / visitors center in the bottom floor of Taylor Hall?
April 27, 201015 yr ^I don't know, there is something on the first floor now, but I am not sure if they are open.
April 27, 201015 yr Great pics! I finished at Kent (or it was finished with me!) before Susan's was there. I don't even remember what was there in the 80s. I was back in Kent last Friday to give an All Aboard Ohio presentation to the Who's Your Mama Earthfest event at the Kent Stage. First time I'd stepped inside that theater in 25 years (it was a second-run movie theater in 1985). Seems like it was only a few years ago. Sheesh... April 27, 201015 yr I never thought of Kent State as particularly attractive, but these pics are outstanding. Thanks. http://www.mainstreetpainesville.org/

Thanks, and I wish that I would have known about that, I would have went to the presentation. I never thought of Kent State as particularly attractive, but these pics are outstanding. Thanks. Kent State isn't too bad, I really like front campus and the newer parts of campus can have their moments.
May 3, 201015 yr Thanks, and I wish that I would have known about that, I would have went to the presentation. The KJP road show heads to Youngstown this week and Dayton next week.
