April 27, 201015 yr I grew up here and couldn't wait to leave it. I had never seen a black person till I left the small (minded) town.
April 27, 201015 yr Wow, this is a surprisingly busy town. ^Is that a new facade? Looks very clean, nice.
April 27, 201015 yr The name makes me think of the rappin', roller-skatin' Wordsworth from the Heathcliff cartoon show.

April 27, 201015 yr Wadsworth actually is a good location in that it is right at the interchange of I 76 and and Route 21 which takes you into Akron, Cleveland and Canton. It is definately not the little town that I remember as a kid. It has transformed into a fairly large suburb of Akron.
April 27, 201015 yr Very nice... I'm guessing the reason its in such good shape downtwon is because of suburban growth..
April 28, 201015 yr I grew up here and couldn't wait to leave it. I had never seen a black person till I left the small (minded) town. Get outta here!
April 28, 201015 yr I never knew there was a downtown Wadsworth. Same here, when I think of Wadsworth I think if the crap along their exit on 76. Thanks for showing the other side of Wadsworth Ink!
April 29, 201015 yr ^ I've been trying to find Downtown Boardman for a while. Hahaha, if there ever was a downtown Boardman they knocked it down a long time ago to widen 224, I remember when they knocked down this awesome mansion right across from the park when I was in highschool. I never knew it was there until they clear cut the trees in front of it, and then boom, it was gone.
May 1, 201015 yr First time poster, but have lurked on here for over year. I was going to mention Wadsworth on the thread of missing Ohio cities. My wife and I moved out here about a year ago (three blocks from downtown). It's not a town for 20-somethings, but now that I'm 30, it works for me. Did you only shoot downtown or did you go through any of the neighborhoods? The older neighborhoods are pretty standard, but there are some interesting older streets with some architecturally appealing homes (Highland, Woodlawn and Crestwood avenues). Also, while there is a lot of suburban growth, Wadsworth has always been a big manufacturing town. 20 percent of the population is in manufacturing, which ranks 5th in Northeast Ohio and 16th in the state. There's a massive old factory just south of downtown (I take it its the old Blue Tip factory, though I'm not sure). If anybody is interested, here is the history of the town. For what is thought of a small town that has become an Akron exurb, it has a rich industrial history. http://www.wadsworthcity.com/index.php?Itemid=43&id=4699&option=com_content&task=view As for there being no "black" people. I know for a fact there is atleast one.
May 1, 201015 yr I never knew there was a downtown Wadsworth. Same here, when I think of Wadsworth I think if the crap along their exit on 76. Thanks for showing the other side of Wadsworth Ink! The funny thing is that Wadsworth is thought of a suburban community but its the city's 150-year-old downtown is well kept, occupied and clean. It's the suburban crap along 76 and High Street is becoming the blighted part of town. North of 76, the BP is closed down and there are a couple former resturants that are also sitting vacant. One of them the grass area out front was about 2 feet high last summer. South of 76, the Giant Eagle has closed down (due to the new store on Akron Road) and neighboring K-Mart has or will close down in the next couple of weeks. The Ponderosa is also closed down. There's a Blockbuster Video around the corner that will likely be closed in the next year. Then there is that four-story monstrasity of a medical building that I believe is completely vacant as well (I know it has a big leasing sign at the top of the building and I never see any cars in the parking lot.) This is all in a quarter mile area.
May 1, 201015 yr ^ All of those chains (except Giant Eagle) are closing a lot of locations company wide. That said, the slowest stores are closed first.
January 12, 201114 yr I'll bump this thread since the Westerville set was posted. Is it just me or do Wadsworth and Westerville look like they could be twins? Also, while I'm at it, I'll update, for anybody interested, some of the things that are going on in the Great Oaks area (1-76). The Ponderosa is being replaced with a Panera Bread. The Blockbuster closed but Chipotle moved in. The restuarants on High Street have been torn down and a Dunkin Donuts and an Advanced Auto Parts are/or will be built there. The Giant Eagle (half of it) is now a Goodwill. The K-Mart is (and probably will be for the forseeable future) vacant. The BP is completely gone and the pumps have been torn out. Not sure if anything is slated to go up there. It's a horrible location because it's impossible to turn out of across traffic. Granted, all of those are suburban developments, but they are lessening what was starting to become "blight" in that area. Closer to downtown, their is a new CVS going up on High and Akron. But that's only shifting the CVS downtown (or just north of downtown) a 1/2 north. Plus, a small, semi-urban group of buildings (mom-and-pop shops) and three century homes were torn down to make way for it. I'm getting off topic, but just south of downtown, hopefully there will be development there. There are several old factories and street level buildings that have potential for reuse. This is an older article from a California newspaper, but looks like there is/was an attempt for redevelopment. The investor has a checkered past and had to file for bankruptcy. I'm actually not sure what's happening, if anything, currently. http://www.sanluisobispo.com/2010/03/18/1072327/kelly-gearhart-just-keeps-on-developing.html
June 23, 20222 yr Well, it’s been 12 years, though honestly, not much has changed in terms of the streetscape of the tiny (2-3 block) downtown of Wadsworth. The most walkable area is between Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church on the north end and the Central Intermediate School building on the south end. There really isn’t much east or west. They do embrace multimodal transportation, though, with bike racks for your bikes and hitching posts for your horses. 😎 🐴
August 24, 20222 yr yeah guns. so when exactly does need arise around there? probably not since they were chasing the natives out. 🙄
