Is this a safe area in Cleveland Heights? (I'm in a bit of a time crunch)

Specifically, south of Monticello, north of Mayfield, east of Taylor, and north of Mayfield...particularly, Radcliffe, Boynton, and St. Alban's?  I found a house that I would like to rent and the neighborhood seemed safe and nicely kept, but not being from Cleveland and having not spent much time here I wasn't sure.  I figured that many posters on this forum could help me.  Any info. would be greatly appreciated.  I'm under a time crunch, so speedy replies would help a great deal! :)  Thank you in advance!

It's is fine. Where are you moving from?

New York City...actually, north of the City in Tuckahoe (Westchester County)

not bad. Have you seen the neighborhood in person?  I only say this b/c there can be variation on streets-one part high rental, next part less transient. Either way I would the general area safe (I used to love about a mile away). More rentals, more noise/issues though.

I saw it today...its seemed quiet and well kept, but I wanted some good feedback from native Clevelanders.  First impressions of an area are not always accurate.

true although Cleveland is what you see if what you get more so than other communities. If it is kept up, then that is a really good sign given so many areas are having high forclosures. The only falsely deceptive time in my mind is early Saturday or sunday morning (ie 6-10 am)- most places are well behaved then. If you really want to test an area check it out Fri or Sat night. Oh and if it is rowdy Sunday afternoon-night, AVOID  :-)

So you don't recommend living amongst the tailgaters in the Muni Lot? :)

On topic, I think that area feels quite safe, and homes on the MLS are from $110-130K, aside from one on Pennfield for $70k that's either a short sale or REO .  The only part of Cleve Hts I consistently hear to avoid is that triangle bounded by Mayfield, Coventry, and Superior.

If reasonable numbers of the people in the neighborhood do not have to get up for work monday morning that is generally not a good sign. Granted many earnest people from plumbers to docs might not work 8-5, m-f , but when the area is largely unemployed and has too much time on their hands and are full of piss and vinegar, meh.

That area is decent, especially for a renter.

One of my friends lives on Castleton.

It's a nice quiet safe area.

It's a family neighborhood, so I would not anticipate noise being an issue... except maybe when Monticello Middle School let's out in the afternoons.

It is a VERY diverse neighborhood if that makes any difference to you.  Probably split 50/50.

Very easy drive into University Circle (use Forrest Hills Blvd to Euclid Ave), but highway access is not good.  You'd have to drive through one of the worst neighborhoods in the entire region to get to the nearest highway entrance (Eddy Rd)

Close to the Recreation Center, so that is a plus.
