Damn!

I remember Molly Stark from when I was a kid, long ago.  We would  occasionally drive by, and my parents would just shake their heads.  I got the impression it was something quite sinister, but they never really said what it was.  It always looked empty, and sat far from everything.  Typical of sanitoriums of the day.

It must have been an impressive place when it was new and well-maintained.

Fort Wayne's TB hospital was Irene Byron, located several miles north of the city in what was open country then. In later years it was an extended care facility for people with advanced Alzheimers, etc. Most of the buildings have been demolished, and the newest part is in bad repair. It has been the headquarters for the Allen County Sheriff's Department for several years, but they will move downtown within a couple of years, and their present building likely will be razed.

ink,

This is a very cool find.

Sad to hear of its approaching fate.

Somebody needs to dispatch the Sherman brigade and get some interior shots. I'd love to see the inside of that place.

You will find many interior shots by searching flickr.com.  It's mostly peeling paint, chairs and files scattered around.  My friends and I visited Molly Stark last year, before the last arsonist got there.  We were able to see the lobby before they boarded it up post fire.

Local preservationist Steve Coon had interest in the building but in the end he says the asbestos abatement cost was to much.  I want to say two million for asbestos removal.

I believe the plans for the park include using part of the old building somehow.  Thanks for the great pictures.

So many explorers have been there over the years, I need to see if I can get their permission to post up some photographs here.
