September 24, 201014 yr What is the route? I hope it crosses the DS bridge, with Ingenuity going on underneath
September 24, 201014 yr Hey punch, the route is always improvised, and whoever wants to lead can do so. I think that we are going to ride over the DS Bridge in the 7pm hour, but we'll see. We'll be walking through the festival with our bicycles as a group between 8 and 8:30pm.
September 24, 201014 yr awesomeness...dont think I can make it in from Houston for this one, but maybe next month. Thanks for your contribution to the communit. (P.S. let me know when you are going to take over the innerbelt bridge...Ill come home for that)
September 24, 201014 yr Anyone from UO planning to come tonight? Almost 250 confirmed on Facebook alone. If the weather looks good, we'll easily top 300 bicyclists this evening! Someday...
September 24, 201014 yr I randomly discovered critical mass one day on my bike. Saw hundreds of cyclists going by. I joined in and it was great. It went through alot of great neighborhoods and it seemed well organized. The Chicago police set up pinch points near sets of railroad tracks so that cyclists would not cross side by side on the tracks but it in single file instead. I guess one cyclist falling on the tracks could cause an accident for hundreds.
September 26, 201014 yr We had an actual count of 325 this month (which makes us think that our 250 estimates the last month were way small). The weather turned out to be beautiful for a ride. The route was Euclid to East 55th (with a few stints on Chester and Prospect), East 55th to Marginal, around the Browns stadium, through the Warehouse District, to Ingenuity. We were also able to walk our bikes through Ingenuity. Next month is the Halloween ride and will likely be the last big one of the season! Join us on 10/29/10. Here's some inspiration for you. (Note that this is SF and not Cleveland!)
October 8, 201014 yr Awesome photo that shows the magnitude of Cleveland Critical Mass. East 9th Street full of bicyclists as far as you can see. That is beautiful. Now if only we could get downtown to look like that everyday
October 10, 201014 yr Details on the Halloween ride have been posted on Facebook. --- http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=161690577183206 Cleveland Critical Mass Halloween Ride Friday, October 29, 2010 - 6:30pm to 9:30pm Meet at Public Square, Downtown Cleveland Critical Mass hits the streets again Friday, October 29. We'll meet at Public Square beginning at 6pm, rain or shine, then depart promptly at 6:30pm for what will likely be the last large mass until April. This month, CCM is celebrating Halloween! Costumes are encouraged, but certainly not required. Deck your ride with lights and Halloween decorations, if you'd like. Let's make this one of the best rides Cleveland has ever seen and put on one hell of a bicycle parade! Bring your friends, too! Look for details of where the ride will conclude for food and drink in the coming weeks. However, if you have a great idea in mind or have a connection to an establishment downtown or on the Near West Side that can host and offer specials, please share below. And while October spells the probable end of the prime CCM riding season, the plan is to continue to book CCM events through the winter. So rides will continue to be posted for those of you willing to brave the cold and snow. Even if winter riding isn't your thing, everyone is encouraged to come out to the ending destination to catch up and have a drink with CCM people they've met throughout the year and meet new like-minded individuals! Lastly, all participants are requested to review and become familiar with the CCM guiding principles on the about page of http://www.clevelandcriticalmass.com/. Give respect and be courteous to pedestrians and motorists, keep the mass together for solidarity (meaning the bicyclists leading the group should ride around 12 mph pace!), and celebrate bicycles and Cleveland! Confirm your attendance on Facebook here.
October 26, 201014 yr Update: This month's Cleveland Critical Mass is ending at Edison's Pub in Tremont. Edison's will have $2.50 Great Lakes Dortmunder drafts and $4 Charlie Brown pumpkin pie shots specials for CCM participants. Costumes + decked-out bicycles + 200 bicyclists + Cleveland + beer afterward = a great time! Who from UO is coming out?
October 26, 201014 yr What it the haunted house in Ohio City? It could be a good thing to ride past. Franklin Castle. Plus there is 7 floors of hell out in Berea. The kids said it was fun, but what the hell do teenagers know about scary?!

I'd actually love to do these CCM rides, but so far they haven't worked. I'll be looking for them again in the spring.
November 1, 201014 yr We had about 175-200 on Friday for Cleveland Critical Mass (despite the chilly weather). Maybe around 50% of the mass had adorned costumes for Halloween. A ride will be scheduled for November, but those folks who do not want to ride in potential cold and snow can meet up at our ending destination for drinks. Details coming in the future.
November 1, 201014 yr Was there a CCM ride last Tuesday? I saw at least 100 people riding up Bridge in OC around 9 pm, some wearing Halloween costumes.
November 1, 201014 yr ^ Nope. CCM is exclusively the last Friday of every month. I wonder who that might have been.
November 2, 201014 yr Now that I think about it, I think it was the Saturday before last (10/23) that I saw them, not Tuesday (10/26). There were a lot and they had people (may have been policemen on bikes) blocking intersections while they rode through. I would think somebody on here was probably either in the ride or knows someone that was in it.
November 2, 201014 yr Maybe it was the Dead Ride, but that was on Saturday 10/16. There were about 150 bicyclists made up like zombies doing barhopping. They had alleycat races in the daytime.
November 23, 201014 yr Cleveland Critical Mass this Friday (November 26). Meet at Public Square at 6pm, depart promptly at 6:30pm for a large group ride that should last an hour to an hour and a half (that depends on the weather). This month, we're ending at Prosperity in Tremont for drinks. Bundle up and join us! Event on Facebook here.
January 1, 201114 yr We didn't have our normal camera guy to shoot a video in November, but here's one from the New Year's Eve ride. We had 25-30 bicyclists go for a festive hour-long ride. Here's a post from a blogger who rode. Photos from the ride are here. Looking forward to some UO folks joining us in 2011. We all talk about ways to make Cleveland better, but one of the true ways to do it is to support grassroots projects and events that do things like build community and bring this city to life!
January 25, 201114 yr Bundle up and ride with CCM on Friday. 20+ people already rsvp'ed on FB. Should be a lot of fun. --- Cleveland Critical Mass January 2011 Ride Friday, January 28 · 6:30pm - 7:30pm Meet at Public Square, Downtown Cleveland Cleveland Critical Mass happens Friday, January 28 at 6:30pm. The group departs from Public Square at 6:30pm for an hour-long bicycle ride. The January and February rides will probably have only a few participants because of the cold and snow, but the group is still alive and active year-round. If you don't ride, we may organize a 7:30pm get-together at a local bar for people to see and catch up with their CCM friends. Please consider joining us. Watch for more info by Tuesday of this week.
January 28, 201114 yr Anyone going to brave the cold and snow and ride with us tonight? We should have around 30 people. The group will be headed to Hoopples after the ride around 7:30pm.
January 30, 201114 yr CCM had about 20 last night for a ride through the Central neighborhood. The exact route is at the link below. Temps weren't that cold because there wasn't any wind, and the main streets were clear. --- January 2011 Ride Date: January 28, 2011 Bikes: 20 Weather: Clear and cold, ~25° Miles: ~10 Ride time: 1:00 Route: Here End Point: Hoopples Pictures: (23 Pictures) Video:
January 30, 201114 yr ^ I bet your excited for the summer, warm weather and way more riders! Great Job! Hopefully it continues to grow again once it gets warm like it did next year. Whats the most you have had?
January 30, 201114 yr ^ Thanks! The most that was ever actually counted was 325 in September 2010. But we probably had over 350 in both July and August because those groups seemed substantially larger than the 325. A lot of that success has been from word of mouth and great weather every last Friday of the month since April.
January 30, 201114 yr "Clear and cold, ~25°" God bless all of ya - not my cup of tea, but glad to see things are still going through our less-than-pleasant months :-) clevelandskyscrapers.com Cleveland Skyscrapers on Instagram
February 25, 201114 yr By the way, there's a ride tonight. We depart from Public Square at 6:30pm. We'll have people out regardless of what the weather may be at the time.
February 26, 201114 yr Details from last night's ride are at clevelandcriticalmass.com. We had 15 bicyclists brave the cold and snowy, slushy Cleveland streets. Hope to see some UOers riding in the spring.

April 25, 201114 yr I'll be attending my first CCM this Friday....bringing 3 more people along as well.
April 25, 201114 yr From the Facebook page: Be part of Cleveland's version of the worldwide Critical Mass movement on Friday, April 29 and celebrate bicycling with over 300 cities throughout the world. We meet on Public Square beginning at 6pm, then depart promptly at 6:30pm. We'll ride rain or shine for an hour or so. This month's ride will conclude at the new Palookaville Chili, 3900 Lorain Avenue in Ohio City. Palookaville is welcoming CCM to its grand opening, which will feature chili and live music. It's also BYOB. See the comments below for a link to Palookaville's event posting. They're available for viewing under the about tab of clevelandcriticalmass.com. Happy riding!
April 25, 201114 yr I'll be attending my first CCM this Friday....bringing 3 more people along as well. AWESOME! I believe its always public square You're correct. We always begin at Public Square. Bicyclists start meeting up there around 6pm to mingle, and we usually leave at 6:30 exactly. The route is totally improvised, and anyone can hop in front and lead. The ending destination is almost always predetermined and posted at least two days before the ride.
May 6, 201114 yr Videos from Friday's Cleveland Critical Mass Untitled Last month, 150 of us rode through Downtown, Midtown, Hough, Glenville, St. Clair Superior, and Ohio City. Full details here.
May 6, 201114 yr ^i'm sure that everyone wants to know that i'm at 3:48-3:51 of the lower video Congratulations on the awesome beard!
May 9, 201114 yr yes, it was my first critical mass. it was a lot of fun, as was the afterparty. i planned on doing them last year but something always came up: getting locked out of my house, flat tires, trips, unpredictable work schedule... i did do tweed ride last year, and this year also, which was the day after critical mass. i'm planning on doing pedal for prizes. thanks for appreciating my beard-itude.
May 10, 201114 yr ^i'm sure that everyone wants to know that i'm at 3:48-3:51 of the lower video woof!
May 16, 201114 yr ya'll be careful out there, there was some mass carnage in brazil last month http://www.theurbancountry.com/2011/02/critical-mass-carnage.html
May 16, 201114 yr ^ Wow, that video. What a horrible event. And this mans comment is despicable "People get sick and tired of these belligerent, passive/aggressive bicyclists purposely and willfully blocking traffic with these "critical mass" events, which are explicitly designed to purposely disrupt the flow of traffic. Every now and then one or more of them gets hit by a car...it goes with the territory. If they're going to purposely be rude, belligerent idiots, than occasionally they can expect to encounter a rude, belligerent person in return. I have not pity whatsoever whenever I hear of a "critical mass" bicyclist getting hit by a car."
