June 1, 201015 yr Great pics. Love that one where it says "God Bless America" as it is surrounded by all those big corporate names. How fitting and a testament to what has happened to baseball, and America. That photo can even be made into a poster for sublime messages.
June 1, 201015 yr Awesome! You are a charmed buyer of baseball tickets- that must have been an incredible game to see!!
June 1, 201015 yr Thanks! But who is this guy Stan -- the name on all those shops around the park? "In the souls of the people the grapes of wrath are filling and growing heavy, growing heavy for the vintage." -- John Steinbeck
June 1, 201015 yr ^ i know -- the yankee stadium stan (martucci) was clearly not afraid to play on stan musial was he? who knows why? maybe because bklyn dodger fans gave musial his nickname of "the man"? other than that i have no guess. although it doesnt answer that question here is the interesting real story of the stans mini-empire and how they are affected by the new stadium: http://www.nytimes.com/2009/03/29/nyregion/thecity/29stan.html?pagewanted=1&_r=1 and yes the stadium is very blandly slick and corporate. it was full of corporate people and their families. there are a few $5 tix for obstructed views, $12 for bleachers (sold out for the season) and $20 nosebleed grandstand seats (sold out for this game) and after that prices just get hideously ridiculously ugly. luckly someone gave me a free ticket. we also got free beer & bahn mi sandwichs for lunch from that food network show at stans -- so it was an outstanding day. now if i could just forget the rest of this series...! ugh. stay tuned i got another bronx neighborhood post from this day in the hopper. jersey shore from sunday is up next after that.
