Posted June 6, 201015 yr so what would a modern big box mall look like plopped into the densest region on the continent? like you walked into a j.g. ballard novel if you ask me! well yr about to find out -- lets go shopping at the new 18 acre gateway center at bronx terminal market  http://www.gatewaycenterbtm.com/ http://www.nytimes.com/2009/09/05/nyregion/05metjournal.html http://www.crainsnewyork.com/article/20090503/SMALLBIZ/305039980 ps -- brooklyn aside, apparently bronx folks have noticed that the design is the same as dadeland station in miami or SoDo complex in orlando, anybody know? the deegan something else new nearby at the south end of gateway center is the renovated deco bronx terminal market (1935) well there ya go -- the cousin of brooklyn’s gateway center brings big box mall shopping to the south bronx, the city’s most under-retailed-borough finally, a few other views from around this neighborhood *** thats all folks! ***
June 6, 201015 yr The Center looks so much nicer than that POS highway. I thought I was going to lose a tire on that.
June 6, 201015 yr thats not bad considering the major deegan expressway was built in 1956 and probably hasnt been touched much since!

It's also similar to Beverly Connection in LA. its in the BX. Its ok.
June 6, 201015 yr ^Agreed. It's not bad, especially for the area it's in. "You don't just walk into a bar and mix it up by calling a girl fat" - buildingcincinnati speaking about new forumers
June 6, 201015 yr except that one is across the street from a real mall, the beverly center, which it spun off from -- just like strip malls did around ohio and most other real malls. hmm, in that sense maybe yankee stadium can be considered the real mall of the bronx? or wait, gateway cnter could be considered the real mall that spun off from the hub neighborhood? waaa whatever lol!
June 6, 201015 yr ^Agreed. It's not bad, especially for the area it's in. actually its structure is more like the beverly center although of course it has stores more like the beverly connection.
June 6, 201015 yr here's dadeland, the first major vertical big-box power center mall, seems like bronx gateway?: http://www.metrojacksonville.com/article/2008-aug-jackson-square-controversy-brewing and here is sodo in orlando, looks like it has condos and other things too, doesnt look like bx gateway: http://friedmandevelopers.com/?cat=1
June 6, 201015 yr ^ lol i know -- but the poorest county in the usa didnt until recently! also, a 6 level vertical big box mall seems to be quite unusual dont you think?
June 6, 201015 yr Co-Op City had big-box stores (that trashy JC Penney's) but this one looks more...Atlantic Yards... "You don't just walk into a bar and mix it up by calling a girl fat" - buildingcincinnati speaking about new forumers
June 6, 201015 yr there is the old alexanders/caldor on fordham rd too, and best buy is up there, forgot about those, but i meant modern bb mall. i think that its a multileveled big box mall is whats freaking me out, big boxers arent just for the edge of town or for strip malls around traditional malls anymore. and yes brooklyns ratner gateway center is a cousin to this one.
