Posted June 9, 201015 yr I'm guessing the PD is doing this survey so that the suburban readers can compete against eachother for the "safest" community but I figured I would post it here to help out Cleveland. http://blog.cleveland.com/metro/2010/05/take_part_in_a_reader_survey_o.html
June 9, 201015 yr ^Thanks for posting that. Note that any potshots are not directed at you for posting, only at the PD. I love this, from the article accompanying the survey: The compiled results to be posted online may be more anecdotal than statistically valid, but they will add another viewpoint to existing crime measures that each have their own limitations. Ah yes, the subjective, often ill-informed, occasionally racially tinged, smug about my own safer than your suburb viewpoint. Will be very useful, I'm sure.
June 9, 201015 yr Another dumb@ss poll that isnt worth a hill of beans. It's only meant to seperate not improve. FAIL!
June 9, 201015 yr Just when I thought the negativity at the PD was tuned down a bit... they allow THIS trash to be posted.
June 9, 201015 yr I came across this today. The negativity this is going to create is unfortunate. It does even seem there has been a switch from being pro-cleveland to being more..... anti-cleveland/ pro suburb? For example, this page blew my mind. There is a new breakdown of the metro news...it lists Cleveland (no neighborhood breakdown whatsoever) and then every suburb and its mother: http://www.cleveland.com/community/ On another note, I'm pretty sure this is a new section too: Cleveland Crime: http://www.cleveland.com/crime/
June 9, 201015 yr How about this comment from a PD worker: Jean Dubail, The Plain Dealer May 30, 2010 at 3:59PM Follow As the person who set up the survey, and left out Cleveland, I can only say, "Duh." It's now in the list, as is Chardon. Thanks to those who pointed out the omissions.
June 10, 201015 yr In it's defense, it is asking you what town you live in, and then a series of questions pertaining to what has, or has not happened to you. Just gathering info. It is not as though they are just asking "What city do you feel safest in"?
June 10, 201015 yr ^^I still don't see why they couldn't do neighborhoods for Cleveland. The safety of the city changes drastically depending on where you live. Do you live on Woodland and E. 111 or do you live in Tremont or West Park.
June 11, 201015 yr They say that the value of the survey will be anecdotal, but the survey doesn't allow for anecdotes!
June 14, 201015 yr In my entirely honest opinion, I find that most of Cleveland is already pretty safe. However, I can't really say much because I'm from Cincinnati. I have family that lives in Cleveland and their experiences have been nothing but stellar.
