Posted June 13, 201015 yr I'm going to create a separate thread for this because it's hijacking QCS. Here is the last one you'll get for a bit. Every open parcel or building pad in the immediate CBD with a reasonable height limit, plus The Banks. Inspired by a (now infamous) WIRED Magazine graphic of Miami. I'd like to eventually model every blob, so any suggestions or inspiration would be welcome.
June 13, 201015 yr Actaully, I'm really curious about a building like Bank of America Corporate Center in Charlotte in the area of Fountain Square West. It's 860' so it might be too tall. I just like the idea of a "crown" being the top of our tallest building.
June 13, 201015 yr I just like the idea of a "crown" being the top of our tallest building. We have one, only we call it a tiara. ;-)
June 13, 201015 yr Wow that would be incredible. That would be about 7-10k downtown workers as well. Or about 3k people living down town if they were residential towers.
June 13, 201015 yr I just like the idea of a "crown" being the top of our tallest building. We have one, only we call it a tiara. ;-) But Cincy ain't the "Princess City" We need a darn crown.
June 14, 201015 yr This is my new favorite thread:) I have a few suggestions. Let's see a tower in place of the parking garage with the spinning clock next to QCS. One at 8th and Sycamore. Plus, See if you can tilt the view so we can see downtown looking North West and plop some towers in along 8th street going towards price hill. There's so much dang flat land over there. Might be cool;)
June 14, 201015 yr In addition to this it would be interesting to see the effect new condo towers in OTR & downtown would have an effect on the skyline if/when the streetcar is built. I am thinking 12 to 20 story mixed use condo/apartments. There is potential along Liberty between Race and Elm as well as other vacant or parking lots. Also there is the potential of a 13 story hotel where the Red Cross Building is. “All truly great thoughts are conceived while walking.” -Friedrich Nietzsche
June 14, 201015 yr ^Would it be so bad if it replaced some of the surface lots on the west side of DT? Take a drive across West Court and turn right at Central someday.
June 14, 201015 yr Very true. The west side of DT needs some love! “All truly great thoughts are conceived while walking.” -Friedrich Nietzsche
June 14, 201015 yr No. It's the area around City Hall and W. Court Street which has become a weird mix of suburban type office complexes, parking lots, abandoned buildings and very few businesses. Even the Busken Bakery that was there a few months ago moved to the east side of Downtown. “All truly great thoughts are conceived while walking.” -Friedrich Nietzsche
June 14, 201015 yr Thanks all for the compliments. I would like to keep this little exercise somewhat realistic, which will help keep the topic relevant. I could put an orange blob on every vacant parcel in the basin, but it wouldn't mean very much. For what it's worth, I think there is potential for some mid-rise residential north of Central Parkway, but not in the immediate future. We could model it, but Google Earth level of detail is more meaningful at the skyline or corridor level, not at the individual building level. There's just not that much detail yet in Google Earth. I will take up Prok's idea for something "crown-y" at FSW.
June 15, 201015 yr God, I hope no one tries to build towers in OTR. Lots are too small. OTR is also a historic district. So you probably don't have to hold your breath.
June 15, 201015 yr Yea I agree^ The ONLY place I could possibly think of for a tower would be next to the old SCPA. If that building won't be converted to anything, that's a good chunk of land but there's plenty of uses for it besides a tower site.
June 15, 201015 yr It would interesting to see something modeled for the St. X area - various apartment complexes were floated.
