I was in town for all about 2 hours. Just enough time to snap some pics, take a jog, and enjoy a couple of Great Lakes (the sudsy kind)!

Thank you. In my opinion, this is the most underrated park in the City.

Beautiful pictures! Cleveland has such beauty, wherever you go :)

EXCALIBUR PHOTOS!!  Thanks!  Edgewater would be my neighborhood of preference if I were planning on moving to the west side!

Great Pictures!  I always enjoy this Skyline perspective.

Excellent views. Looks like a gorgeous day.

Great shots!  I love how Lake Erie always appears to get "bluer" as the years go by.....or am I crazy?!

No, you're not crazy.  Since the introduction of Zebra Mussels into the Great Lakes in the mid 80's, the water has become clearer.  They siphon water at a pretty fast pace, feeding off algae thus making the water clearer (or bluer).

it's been really bright blue this past week...  I have dozens of the same shots.  Every time I walk in the park I bring my camera and end up snapping the same photos because the view is so extraordinary.  Then I get home and realize I already have the shots in spring, fall, summer, winter....  up close, far away.....

The water is clearer, but there is nothing really positive about the invasion of zebra muscles. It is just another invasive component that is eroding the bio-diversity of the native aquatic habitat which can eventually collapse the food chain in the lake making it lifeless to the point it can sustain very little life. These things smother other native muscles that other fish depend  upon for food---die, contribute to oxygen depletion.... and make areas of the beaches stink among many other issues.

I posted information about these on the under water Ohio thread...    http://www.urbanohio.com/forum2/index.php/topic,19687.0.html What seems appealing to the untrained eye, is creating literal dead zones in the lake. (round gobys and zebra muscles are both invasive introduced accidentally by shipping...gobys feeding off of perch/walleye eggs) And while it may look bluer now, it could get really dirty when/if the native fauna collapses.

The more diverse in life a given body of water is in supporting native aquatic life......the healthier/cleaner is the rule of thumb. In the past, it was largely industrial discharge as the threat..today it is still some of that (point/non-point source pollution) invasives, and even lawn chemicals people use on lawns. Collectively, all this can pose just as many problems for the aquatic life.

While not as visually dramatic in a polluted looking sense, the effects can be comparable in the long run. In other words, stewardship of this environment is not something we do once..and forget it. Its an ongoing effort that cannot afford to have us sit on our laurels because we cleaned it up once. "Housework" is an ongoing job, so to speak!

No joking...one spring day in 2005 I was swimming at Edgewater when something strange happened.....for the first time ever, I could see the sand bottom!

It still clouds up sometimes, but for the most part it's been great.

This year has been very clear and I'm loving it.

Now if we could just divert the Cuyahoga somewhere else lol.

Great Pic, side note: Is there any plan to clean the first 25 or so floors of Terminal Tower?
