March 21, 201114 yr I can't see the videos right now [on my lunch break at work ] but this discussion, especially kjp's response, are extremely insightful and give a great overview about its demise to . As one of the younger ones on UO [early/mid 20s] and too young to experience the Flats as its been described [i went down there only once to party, when I was 18, to a beach themed place, shark/beach club ?] I had wondered why the flats fell apart and this is one of the best threads that I've read on UO so far. It's pathetic that CLE city hall and county officials had turned a blind eye until their related associates' profits and the crowds dried up.
March 21, 201114 yr ^Beach Club. I went there many times. That, Bar Cleveland, and Have-a-Nice-Day-Cafe were probably the best clubs down there towards the end of the Flats era.
March 25, 201114 yr Nice video but I'm surprised he didn't have more footage from when the Flats was hopping. I've got some video from a Friday night in about 1999 or 2000 when there were still a lot of crowds around. I'll see if I can find it. March 25, 201114 yr Nice to see the old street, even in its ghostly form. Surprised not to hear a mention of Peabody's Down Under. Heaven and Earth had a few good years, but Peabody's was THE place. And "Groovy" was actually "Have a Nice Day Cafe" if I recall. p.s. just before they tore the buildings down I went exploring. Surprisingly, the old Hooters had a dumpster with about 500 bottles of Sam Adams. If you have never had the opportunity to throw a full bottle of beer against a brick wall, I would highly recommend it.
