Posted July 21, 201014 yr The heart of Chicago became one giant movie set this July. The filming of transformers 3 literally transformed Michigan and Wacker into a disaster area of toppled cars, buses, and pieces of Chicago's landmarks. While still impressive from the ground, it's absolutely incredible from above. The detail and labor that went into this is tremendous, not to mention the logistics and planning. It is estimated the movie created 200 jobs and brought $20 million in business. Not only that but certainly a boost in publicity and tourism. Businesses in the area were jammed with customers catching a bite to eat while waiting for the next scene to be filmed. I'm very fortunate to have an office in the London Guarantee Building. Lately it has been the epicenter of all sorts of filming and events. If any more cool scenes are to follow, I'll post more.

July 21, 201014 yr Oh, Michael Bay... Anybody ever see the "Imaginationland" episode of "South Park" where they bring in the Hollywood movie directors to think of ideas to invade the imagination? "Then there's a truck and it's like 'BRRRRK' then the plane comes down it's like BRAAGK'".

July 21, 201014 yr Sort of thinned out the traffic on Michigan Ave. for a while. Amazing vantage point and great photos!

That's awesome to be so close to the set like that.

July 22, 201014 yr nice shots and im sure that was fun for chicagoites but out here in ny on the ground the constant street disruptions for that kind of stuff are nothing but aggravating. bah -- hollywood take your street filming to toronto where it belongs!

The amount of times my plans have been disrupted because of Gossip Girl filmings in Queens is beyond belief. Transformers, on the other hand, is something I wouldn't mind them closing down a few streets around me for. Neat shots.

I very well could have been mixing up my teenage girl TV shows. The girl I was with at the time seemed to think it was Gossip Girl, but she wasn't very bright. This was two years ago.
July 22, 201014 yr It was UB. We've never filmed in Queens only in Manhattan, Brooklyn (Bk Hts., Downtown, Dumbo) and The Hamptons.

She's a fellow SU alum. It's like we're best friends. Which is all the more upsetting since she won't return my calls......

July 27, 201014 yr Found this. Apparently this guy just walked right onto the set and shot these photos. Or maybe it's some viral marketing thing. http://thechive.com/2010/07/26/so-i-snuck-onto-the-set-of-transformers-3-56-hq-photos/ Pretty awesome. Gotta love Hollywood.
July 29, 201014 yr What a complete and utter waste of resources. We, as a society, need to get over our fascination with big budget explosions (fireworks extravaganzas and movie jerk-fests).
July 29, 201014 yr That's cool. I was in Detroit working downtown when they were there filming the first Transformers movie there. Makes it really fun when the movie comes out to see how the scenes look as a finished product.
August 6, 201014 yr That guy was NOT on the set. Trust me I was 100% aware of all the vantage points. I'm sure one of the other forumers who worked security there could comment as well. They had these fencing barricades up that allowed public viewing areas that seemingly jutted right into the center of the set. In fact people could request to walk through the filming area to reach the Corner Bakery. They could sit outside during filming except when explosions took place. All the spots those photos were taken from places anyone could stand at. Good zooms though. The only notable celebs I saw were R Kelly and Tyrese in the lobby of my office building. Ehhh nobody felt comfortable asking for autographs.
