Posted July 26, 201014 yr Both of these neighborhoods are along Parsons south of Livingston. Schumacher Place is an established neighborhood while Ganther's Place is up and coming thanks to very involved neighbors. I also included lots of homes not included on the tour itself, but were along the way. Schumacher Place Map I locked my bike in front of this interesting home. It's vacant and needs residents (I think it was going for $239,000). And here's Skillet on the south end of the neighborhood just a few blocks west of Parsons on Whittier, which alone is all the neighborhood needs as a draw, let alone all of the amenities a short walk to German Village and more to come on Parsons. Here are a couple of clips from PBS' Breakfast Special program that stopped here. Embarrassed to admit I still haven't been despite the rave reviews about the high quality dishes and relatively low prices. I should have put off lunch. Ganther's Place Map Ganther's Place is a more modest neighborhood southeast of Schumacher Place right across Parsons, but I have to admit that overall the gardens here were definitely better. Ganther Park, where the tour starts, was an empty grass lot until neighbors turned it into an official pocket park. Parsons Avenue revitalization continues: Studio 1000. It looks like it was lifted right out of the Short North. This sunflower mural was painted by a resident who painted the same thing on her property in Hilliard, but was ordered by city officials to remove it. Here, they welcome it with open arms..
July 26, 201014 yr Great shots! "You don't just walk into a bar and mix it up by calling a girl fat" - buildingcincinnati speaking about new forumers
July 28, 201014 yr It's not quite as great as German Village - but it's right next door and less expensive.
July 28, 201014 yr Well, "not quite as great as German Village" can be applied to a ton of urban neighborhoods nationwide. But yes, they are right next door and less expensive, although Schumacher Place is revitalized with prices to match the fact that it's next to German Village. Whoever took the photos for the tour booklet here puts my amateur shots to shame; they're very well polished. Here's one from the neighbrohood association's facebook album. Ganther's Place is more modest and much more affordable and very up and coming: visiting the area and seeing how much residents here care really makes you take a second look at an area most people consider lost. There were a few surprisingly nice backyards and one just had me floored. The neighborhood borders were recently expanded to encompass another block south of it's former borders which is like a 25% gain and I love their recent July newsletter calling out a bad business' owner by name on Parsons that doesn't care about the area and contributes crime. Bad Landlord of the Month Jimmy V, owns The Avenue Bar on Parsons. His business and the customers that frequent this bar are a disgrace to our neighborhood. The bar continues to play loud music at all times of the night, prostitutes and drug dealing are common occurrences at his business. The parking lot is full of trash and the fence is falling down. This is a business that we do not want in Ganthers Place.!!!
