I stumbled across this on Wikipedia (I know, terrible source) and it piqued my interest, but I couldn't really find any details elsewhere on the web.  Has anyone else heard anything about Columbus bidding to host the World Fair in 2022/2023?

No, but after searching through the website, I noticed that Toledo planned to host the Ohio Centennial and Northwest Territory Exposition in 1902. It was never held, because the Ohio Supreme Court decided in 1900 that the state's Centennial Commission had no legal authority to appropriate state funds for the fair. Makes me curious whether there are still planning documents available somewhere...

I'm really not trying to start anything Clevelander, but you were right when you said Wikipedia's a terrible source.  Or at least it is in this case.  I live in Columbus and follow all the major local media sources (and probably all the minor ones too).  I can assure you that there has been absolutely no mention of any World Fair bid by Columbus.

And a World Fair bid wouldn't make much sense anyway.  The last World Fair in the U.S. was in 1982 in Knoxville, Tenn.  It was supposed to raise the national profile of Knoxville.  I think we can agree that Knoxville's profile has not been raised.  And it apparently also left Knoxville $46 million in debt as well.

^they did get a simpson's episode out of it.

I have a Knoxville World's Fair coffee mug, so they're getting exposure to me about once a week 28yrs after the fact, clearly  a worthwhile investment.

LOL - I forgot about that one!  A quick web search yielded this from "Bart on the Road" Episode - Original air date May 31, 1996.

Bart: We got no car!

Martin: We got no money!

Milhouse: And no one knows we're here!

Everyone: We're stranded!

Nelson: But on the plus side, I knocked over the SunSphere. HA-ha....and crushed a new car, too!

No worries.  It was just something I stumbled upon and thought someone on UO must know about if true.

^^ Love that episode!

In other news, they still have World Fairs?

That was my reaction. Who needs em? We have the internets!

It'd be nice to have a World's Fair centered on rail and walkable areas.

Didnt think they had the worlds fair anymore. Thought it was pretty much done when it came to Knoxville TN 25 years ago
