March 16, 20223 yr Author Stein Brewing opens in downtown Newark this week When David Stein began not recognizing the customers at his Mount Vernon brewpub, he knew it was time to expand. Stein and co-owner Erin Stevens opened Stein Brewing Co. in 2018. The menu featured a regular offering of locally brewed craft beer and American smokehouse favorites. Given the small town setting, there’ve always been more than a few regulars. But when the space started drawing visitors from Mansfield, Fredericksburg, Sunbury and beyond, Stein began searching for a new outpost. After a nine-month hunt he centered on 23 W. Church St. in downtown Newark. The Granville brewery and its Mai Chau Kitchen restaurant will celebrate their grand reopening April 1 in a new 6,000-square-foot space at 133 N. Prospect St. in the Licking County downtown. Opening New Beer Hall in the Trolley District After a long wait, Columbus Brewing Co. is finally opening their new Beer Hall at 200 Kelton Ave., just behind the East Market in the Trolley District. On Monday, February 20 the concept that has been in motion in some form or another for almost seven years will make its debut! I was lucky enough to get a sneak peek at the new space and taste a few of the beers exclusive to this Beer Hall. As I was entering, I was first struck by the size of the patio to the right of the entrance. There are two big fire pits and space for over 100 people. I can’t wait until it warms up a bit so I can really spend some time out here. February 19, 20232 yr I got the chance to go to the CBC beer hall over the weekend, and it definitely did not disappoint. The building looks gorgeous. It’s big and open while still feeling warm and cozy, and the patio will be super nice once it’s warmer outside. And, of course, the drink and food selection are both impressive.

February 22, 20232 yr She might end up being a Brewery District once again after all… Nocterra Brewing to bring brew back to Brewery District “The pub, to be called Nocterra Audubon, would occupy 4,600 square feet of a 200,000 square-foot building at 516 Maier Place, on the eastern edge of the park. The site would include kitchen and dining space, an extensive patio, and a mezzanine-level bar offering a window view of the Bloc Garten rock-climbing gym next door. While Nocterra Audubon won't brew beer, it will barrel-age beers on site, allowing it to qualify as a brewery, making it only the second brewery to operate in the Brewery District, in addition to Antiques on High. The site will have a full kitchen, unlike the Powell location which instead relies on food trucks. Nocterra pitched the Brewery District proposal in 2021, and is now scheduled to present it to the Brewery District Commission on March 2. The current proposal changes a few things, such as moving a fire pit from the rooftop to a patio, but Knott cautioned that designs haven't been finalized.“ https://www.dispatch.com/story/business/2023/02/21/powell-brewery-plans-second-site-next-to-scioto-audubon-metro-park/69922947007/
February 22, 20232 yr Author With the news in Cleveland, this was inevitable... Platform Beer Doesn’t Appear to be Reopening in Columbus Two years ago, the entire staff at the Platform Beer Co. walked out, citing a variety of workplace issues. The owners stated at the time that the closure was temporary, but after two years sitting dormant, it doesn’t look like Platform will ever reopen their Downtown Columbus brewery. As recently as September of 2022, Columbus Underground received confirmation from Platform Marketing Director Brittany Foster that the closure was not permanent. “Our Columbus location is still temporarily closed, but we will absolutely reach out when we have updates to share,” she stated via email five months ago.
