March 3, 20178 yr Author Here's how much BrewDog paid for its Franklinton bar site While BrewDog USA Inc. has been plenty busy at its new home in Canal Winchester, it's getting ready to make a bar in Franklinton come to life, too. On March 1, the Scottish craft brewer closed on the purchase of a pair of small parcels and a 4,200-square foot building at 463 W. Town St for $475,000. Last fall, co-founder James Watt identified 463 W. Town St. as the chosen spot for its Columbus bar. March 8, 20178 yr BrewDog adding bars, seating, staff to meet demand at its DogTap bar, restaurant By JD Malone, The Columbus Dispatch Updated: March 6, 2017 at 12:49 PM Open just two weeks, DogTap has drawn huge crowds and some consternation. "Waiting times, availability of food, beer selection and the level of customer service in these first couple of weeks have not quite been at the level we aspire for them to be at," the company wrote in a blog post published today. Reviews on Yelp point to some problems with food quality, spotty service and long, long waits, but reviewers also praised BrewDog's beers, the restaurant's design and atmosphere. ... DogTap has seen twice the traffic that the Scottish craft brewers planned for. The company estimated 14,000 people had stopped in and the bar had served more than 10,000 pints of its flagship Punk India pale ale since it opened on February 20. To resolve things, BrewDog plans to add "a lot more staff," a bar with a growler filling station and additional seating near the entrance to alleviate crowding in the restaurant. More seating and an additional bar are planned on the mezzanine, which overlooks the restaurant and part of the brewery. Also, a third new bar, built out of a shipping container, is planned on the patio outside. August 15, 20177 yr Cross-posted from the Columbus Bars thread: Below is a Business First article link from last year about how the latest wave of craft brewers are sparking the reuse of industrial and retail spaces. It looks at how this trend has been good for the real estate market in general and some neighborhoods in particular. These smaller craft brewers have been turning long-dormant industrial spaces and past-their-prime retail sites into active destinations for consumers and for other businesses that want to be nearby to this activity. Three locations were mentioned: Land-Grant Brewing in Franklinton that converted the former Capital Lift & Manufacturing Co. elevator and conveyor factory into its brewery in 2014. Lineage Brewing in Clintonville that converted a former car wash building along High Street into its brewpub in 2015. Seventh Son Brewing in Italian Village that converted a former automotive repair shop along Fourth Street in 2013. (I know it's nearly a year old, but I just came across it. Plus, its just so on-the-mark for a development website like UO.) January 2, 20187 yr Columbus Brewing can keep name, restaurant will change its moniker, brewery’s attorney says By JD Malone, The Columbus Dispatch Posted: December 27, 2017 at 4:14 PM After two years of legal bickering and 20 years of questions, there now is just one Columbus Brewing Co. The craft brewery, owned by Beth and Eric Bean, retains the moniker, while the Columbus Brewing Co. Restaurant, owned by Doug Griggs and Mike Campbell, will be looking for a new handle. The brewery and restaurant agreed to an out-of-court settlement last month, the details of which are not public. The restaurant will change its name sometime in 2018 and can no longer use the shortened CBC brand, according to the brewery’s attorney. ... The two businesses have always been separate, but that was never obvious. District Brewing, the brewery’s legal name, formed in 1988 and held the trademark for the Columbus Brewing Co. brand since 1989. In 1997, then-owner Jeff Edwards invited Cameron Mitchell to add a restaurant onto the front of the Short Street brewery. Edwards stipulated that the restaurant would be called Columbus Brewing Co. Restaurant. The two have been confused ever since. ... Eric Bean bought into the brewery in 2006 and Mitchell sold the restaurant to Griggs and Campbell in 2007. The issue of who would use the Columbus Brewing Co. name and how it would be used was never addressed until this out-of-court settlement.
