Where is this in the park?

It looks like it's near Tomb Raider in some of the shots.

As you exit the Nickelodeon area the entrance to the ride is directly across from the Wild Thornberry's log flume. The ride will take riders above the midway, out into the woods, then back again. It's a massive ride. A section of it does pass over Tomb Raider. Tomb Raider is now called The Crypt though.

Shout out to the ride I supervised when I worked there...although it is the Wild Thornberry's River Adventure. :)

Rando when did you work there?  I used to work Flight of Fear, loved being in the A/C.

It was in 2002 or 2003 (I forget exactly).  My home ride was the Wild Thornberry's River Adventure, but I took the opportunity to move around to as many different rides as possible (great way to meet other young people).  By the end of the tenure I had worked on just about every single ride at the park not counting the water park.

Yeah I did much the same.  Actually started out working games, nobody seemed to like my pitch to play wack a mole; and yes I really did work the wack a mole.  Worked differnet rides from '99-01.  They actually wanted me to supervise but at that age (17-18) I did not want to try that hard.  Good times back there.

Also, I am really excited for this new ride.  Ive never been on or seen anything with a splash down.  Curious though how that is going to play out in the early spring and late fall days.

Diamondback delivers

I’m no expert on roller coasters, but I’d say Diamondback delivers.  On Saturday, Kings Island's $22 million steel roller coaster designed by Bolliger & Mabillard Consulting Engineers, opens to the public. Riders can expect incredible views from the coaster’s many hills and a smooth, fast ride.

Today, the park is open to members of the media and the American Coaster Enthusiasts, a club for coaster junkies like Jess Novak, from Taylor, Mich., just outside of Detroit.  Novak, a member of ACE since 1985, was kind enough to sit with me in the front of the train.  “This ride is a total package – it’s art,” Novak said. “You tower above everything. You see the Beast, the Vortex; it gives you such a sense of being way up in the sky.”

Great addition to the park. This was something KI was missing.

It's almost like a B&M Screechin' Eagle.  Just taller.  And steel.  With water.

Can't wait to ride it.  hard decision to make.. season pass or not.?. hmm

Son Of Beast Inspection Completed

State investigators have found no irregularities with the operation of a Mason roller coaster that has been closed since a woman complained it caused a blood vessel to burst in her head.  The Ohio Department of Agriculture released the report Wednesday on the Son of Beast at Kings Island. The report says the woman hospitalized for a burst blood vessel in her brain visited Kings Island May 31, reporting the injury June 16.

terrible news. goodbye cedar fair, a noteworthy ohio business.

apollo is run by micheal milken's right hand man, milken was the 1980's insider trading criminal inspiration for oliver stone's gordon gekko ("greed is good") in his movie 'wall street.'

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apollo_Management

apollo will probably sell off the parks eventually, which might not be a bad thing. or maybe not, they hold amc theaters and harrahs casinos, so who knows? still, its a sad day that ohio's cedar fair has been gobbled up by people who dont give a rats azz about the business.

^ Awesome "sales motivation" movie.

Cross-posted in Sandusky: Cedar Point

Top investor balks at Cedar Fair sale

Business First of Columbus

Friday, January 22, 2010

A month after the operator of the Cedar Point and King’s Island amusement parks in Ohio revealed plans to be acquired for $2 billion, the company’s largest shareholder says it plans to cast a “no” vote on the purchase.  Fort Worth, Texas-based Q Funding III LP, a unit of Q Investments, said Friday it thinks New York investor Apollo Management’s $11.50-a-share offer for Sandusky-based Cedar Fair LP (NYSE:FUN) isn’t “indicative of the true value of the company.”  Q Funding has a nearly 10 percent stake in Cedar Fair’s operating units.

When Apollo offered in late December to buy Cedar Fair, its share offer was a 28 percent premium over the company’s market close the day before the proposal was disclosed.  Cedar Fair’s stock closed Friday at $12.66, up about 40 percent since then.  Cedar Fair needs holders of two-thirds of its stock to OK the transaction.

Officials reject new taxes on Kings Island tickets

Tuesday,  February 9, 2010 - 7:46 AM

MASON, Ohio (AP) - Local officials have voted down a plan to tax admissions and parking at Kings Island amusement park and a neighboring water park in southwest Ohio.

The city council in Mason rejected the proposed 3 percent park ticket tax and 5 percent parking tax Monday night, at a meeting that drew about 200 people.  Residents who spoke out against the plan said the extra charges would be tough on families.

The tax on admissions would have added $3 to the cost of a Kings Island season pass and about $1.50 to the price of a one-day ticket.  The proposal's supporters had said the money was needed for road improvements and fire and police services related to Kings Island and The Beach water park nearby.

^ Any idea (from anyone) what ride could be taken out to make room for it?

Sounds lame, they need to reopen Son of Beast ...such a fantastic roller coaster, I hope it isn't mothballed.

My bet would be where SkyLab used to be a long time ago.  Recently I think it was one of those giant trampoline things.  I haven't been to KI in a few years so there could have been something placed there, but that would be my guess.

Ah, Skylab. Used to love that ride.

"It's just fate, as usual, keeping its bargain and screwing us in the fine print..." - John Crichton

I believe it's going where Flight Commander used to be.  SkyLab was near Adventure Express.  The renderings show it at the base of the old Days of Thunder, which would be the Flight Commander space.

^ Ahh yes, got the two mixed up.  Even when I worked there I think I'd get them mixed up.

In the comments section someone mentions it's possibly a dinosaur themed 3D ride at the old Days of Thunder

What's Kings Island planning?

http://news.cincinnati.com/comments/article/20110317/NEWS01/303170023/What-s-Kings-Island-planning-

An announcement is expected Friday from Kings Island, possibly about a new attraction, according to the amusement park’s Web site.

“Millions of years in the making, something big is coming to Kings Island. 3-18-2011,” reads a teaser on the website.

*edit*

Channel 12 is reporting it to be a dinosaur walk that is the “biggest of its kind in the world”

Kings Island fans may want to check out this week’s episode of In The Loop as the guys chat it up with KI’s own Don Helbig about Crypt, Son of Beast, Soak City and a big new show coming to the park.

>a big new show coming to the park

If it's not starring Nick Lachey I don't want to know about it.

Invertigo!!! Don't you mean Mind Eraser!?!?

Sincerely,

Disgruntled Geagua Lake fan.

Mind Eraser was a sit-down, typical 80's boomerang sent to Carowinds and now known as the Carolina Cobra.  This is an inverted boomerang!

Mind Eraser -- what a name.

Oh, and I haven't thought about Carowinds for a while, I'll tell you that. I always wanted to go there when we'd go to Heritage USA (PTL). Alas, PTL was so expensive to stay at that there wasn't much money left. That, and the Jim Bakker tax.

I'm sure Tammy Faye appreciated that.

That reminds me of another good ride name: Raging Wolf Bobs.

LOL!  The only thing it "raged" was your head.

Please, neither Raging Wolf Bobs nor Son of Beast compared to the beating that was the "Villain," at Geauga Lake. By far, hands down the absolute worst roller coaster I've ever ridden.

Is The Jack Rabbit still at Kennywood?  It gave all the appearance of an innocent kiddy ride, then unlike every amusement park rumor you ever heard as a kid, IT ACTUALLY JUMPED THE TRACKS.

Villain had good days and bad days (like an eastern Ghost Rider at KBF).  Overall it was certainly vicious to the body.  But I don't think any of them can hold a candle to Mean Streak's absolute PAIN!

Banshee

Kings Island announces plans for screaming new world record-breaking inverted roller coaster

The longest inverted steel roller coaster in the world, “Banshee,” will make its debut at Kings Island in April of 2014.

The first female-inspired thrill ride at a Cedar Fair Entertainment Company amusement park, Banshee will send riders screaming through 4,124.1 feet of track and seven mind-bending inversions at speeds up to 68 miles per hour during the 2-minute, 40-second ride.

Built over hilly terrain and incorporating the most exciting features of the very best inverted roller coasters in the world, Banshee will feature several unique elements that distinguish the ride from others.

The ride begins with a lift taking riders up to the maximum height of 167 feet. After plunging down 150 feet, riders will go through a dive loop, followed by a vertical loop, zero gravity roll, two batwing inversions, a second vertical loop and a 170-foot long heartline finale.

Um, so is Top Gun kicking the bucket?

No.  This is where Son of Beast was.

I haven't been to KI in years, but that looks like they are reusing the station from Son of Beast, or at least the foundations.  Would make sense to save some money.  Should be a fun ride and I am really happy that KI is finally getting these B&M coasters.  I think  they make some of the best, but it seemed like Paramount and previous owners would never spend the money to get on by them.  I wonder if Cedar Fair has bought some kind of package though, Diamondback, Gatekeeper (at Cedar Point), and this one are all B&M rides.

I meant Top Gun would be shut down, since it is such a lame hanging coaster.  I think it opened in 1991 and Raptor opened in 1993 or 1994.  I feel gross merely mentioning Top Gun and Raptor in the same sentence.

I personally enjoy Top Gun when riding in the front seat. If it was 20-30 seconds longer, it'd be one of my favorites at KI. However, this new name change is for the birds:

The Bat will fly again at Kings Island

Thirty-three years to the day it was first introduced in 1980, Kings Island officials announced this week The Bat ride will fly again.

The 364-acre amusement and water park located off Interstate 71 in Warren County is changing the name and colors of the Flight Deck roller coaster to The Bat in time for the 2014 season.

“There was a lot of passion and enthusiasm around this name change by our guests,” said Greg Scheid, Kings Island’s vice president and general manager. “They told us they wanted to bring it back.”

I was excited when I read the headline, but then pissed when I read it was just a name change from Top Gun.  The original Bat was an awesome ride for those old enough to remember it!
