August 14, 201014 yr arrgghhh...it's the east village--one and a half blocks from my run-down, waterbug-infested tenement (#16)--thank goodness there are no images of my haggard self! http://www.mainstreetpainesville.org/
August 14, 201014 yr Some of those photos were in New (cough cough) Jersey! When were you in DC? I swear you're stalking me.
August 14, 201014 yr Picture #2 and maybe others - did you apply perspective correction? If so, how? The sides look too straight.
August 14, 201014 yr An enjoyable minute! I spent a recent weekend in the East Village and came away with only a single photo. Perhaps I'll post a "New York half-second" thread.

August 15, 201014 yr I'm going to have to request an additional bodyguard. First ProkNo5 now you! Isn't it enough that you damn near knocked me down in Chicago?

August 17, 201014 yr St. Mark's Place, YES! In my NY days...waay back... after the clubs we headed to Yaffa Cafe 'til early morning. Fun times. I trust that East Village landmark is still there
August 25, 201014 yr Beautiful pictures. That Chase Bank on 2nd Avenue and whatever the cross street is sticks out like a sore thumb. that's the heart of the East Village, @St. Mark's Place. That location was originally a small savings & loan type of place, or some such little known bank, back in the days when Chase wouldn't dream of having a branch in that neighborhood. It was better back then! (there's even another Chase two blocks north) http://www.mainstreetpainesville.org/

Yeah but some of those are SoHo, right? I love the cast iron facades. To me, architecture just doesn't get any better than SoHo. Cast iron is so much more aesthetically appealing than brick, stone, siding, or anything else for that matter. It was cheaper than other materials at the time! Well, probably until later when building codes required it to be backed by masonry. D@mn you steel for ending the cast iron era! Look at that picture of Greene St. Can anyone honestly say a street gets any better than that? There's a great variety of building designs but they fit together so well. It's continuity and mutation at the same time. St. Mark's Place, YES! In my NY days...waay back... after the clubs we headed to Yaffa Cafe 'til early morning. Fun times. I trust that East Village landmark is still there Look at that deconstructivist BS a couple buildings away lol. Ever hear of a deconstructivist urban designer or civil engineer? Hell no, because we'd have arterial streets that dead end.
