August 17, 201014 yr Those subways do not look like a pleasant morning commute! I'm always amazed by two things with Tokyo... the vastness... and the cleanliness.

August 17, 201014 yr Is Tokyo hoping to host a 1980s World's Fair? Yeesh, not a fan. Awesome photos- in this and the other threads. So much to look at!
August 17, 201014 yr That thing is hideous... I need to get to Japan ASAP before I have kids and can't. I've heard so many great things from friends about the culture. It just seems like a different world. Quiet, clean, polite, honest, hard working. They seem to have a good thing going over there.
August 18, 201014 yr Is Tokyo hoping to host a 1980s World's Fair? Yeesh, not a fan. That thing is hideous... lol! well i certainly agree it's not very creative in the architecture dept, even up close and personal, i dont think its hideous either. besides, come on you guys, you know you'd poop yr pants if this was being built in the clev!!! I need to get to Japan ASAP before I have kids and can't. I've heard so many great things from friends about the culture. It just seems like a different world. Quiet, clean, polite, honest, hard working. They seem to have a good thing going over there. my impressions of japan were that you are 100% correct, but being a monoculture accounts for a lot of that and certainly has it downsides. it definatley helps japan when the japanese go abroad more so that when we gaijin visit japan. yet at the same time i do admire how they adopt the parts of other cultures that they like and yet still preserve their own identity. i hope you get a chance to visit sometime, its a fascinating place. hang on for more threads to come!
August 18, 201014 yr besides, come on you guys, you know you'd poop yr pants if this was being built in the clev!!! Yes, out of dread and humiliation. I can only imagine the sh^& storm on UO if anyone ever proposed that for Cleveland. Don't get me wrong though, I'd be all over it with my camera if I were in Tokyo- it is a certainly a sight to behold. Happily, Tokyo is so immense and amazing that this thingy will just add another fun element to the skyline and won't define the city as it would in other places. I didn't occur to me before, but I think its a communications tower, which makes its appearance more forgivable. By the way, in the Roppongi thread, there is a low rise building with a wavy glass facade which is awesome enough to make up for the sky tree. Do you know what that is? Keep the threads coming!
