Posted August 21, 201014 yr tokyo: a walk from nippori to nishi nippori stations these neighborhoods are in north central tokyo kind of between ikebukuro to the west and ueno station to the east. this walk was the first thing we did because we wanted to ease into tokyo city life after a long flight, highly recommended and thx to the indispensable lonely planet guide. enjoy a stroll thru a quiet neighborhood filled with shrines & temples, views and everyday life. old style house, not machiya style but an older style moving on from the cemetery zenshoan temple looks like they have some cool art exhibitions on display there sometimes: http://pinktentacle.com/2008/08/19th-century-ghost-scrolls/ i loved the little urban cemetaries on the grounds, no doubt no vacancy anymore bike parking old wall along this alley street another old style home fellow wu-tang clan fans take note  the only thing i had in mind resembling a destination on this ambling stroll -- because this shrine is is related to the story of the 47 ronin: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Forty-seven_Ronin many entrance gates have these very old fierce carvings guarding the temple/shrine get it on bang a gong get it on :banger: kind of western style this is more typical surprise! kitschy swiss restaurant great views here! can ya stand one more? a little trainspotting before we go -- hilltop views over nishi-nippori station shinkansen! don’t blink! you had to walk under the tracks and into the neighborhood to get the station - fine by me! waiting for the tokyo tourist’s best friend, the JR yamanote train that circles the city relax! watch some anime while you ride  a stop at shinjuku, the busiest station in the world -- no arguments here about that! stay tuned for gwen stefani and everyone else’s favorite tokyo nabe…harajuku! *** i hope you enjoyed a quiet walk thru typical outlying residential tokyo neighborhoods ***
