Posted August 26, 201014 yr I had to fly off to New Orleans on a last minute business trip for the second time in six weeks. It was so hot; I’m 10 shades darker than I was a week ago. It was 106 degrees – in the shade – with the heat index. It was oppressive that I was self basting in my own sweat. Usually I go to a city and return, this time I had to spend four hot miserable days in New Orleans. Here are a few pics. I went to a few areas that I wanted to take pictures, but out of respect of my hosts and members of the community, I didn’t take any pictures. My brother came with me and he hadn’t been to NoLa in a long while and was shocked to see the devastation…five years later. Harrah’s – I won big on the Blackjack and Craps tables. Hopefully Cleveland Harrah’s casino will be just as nice to gamblers! The Central Business District There are signs of life, but it’s pretty deserted. We hoped on the street car and went out to Audubon Park Thing No. 1 and my brother complained about NO AC the entire way there and back. It was so damn hot in that park I almost fainted at the event prep. I had a Scarlett O’Hara moment. The restaurant from the Eiffel tower was bought and reassembled in New Orleans. The French Quarter. It’s the middle of the afternoon; the streets are damn near empty. For dinner, we could walk in about any restaurant and have you pick of seats. At night the quarter was very quiet. I felt so sorry for the mules to having to work in the oppressive heat Hey…When in NoLa have coffee the way they do I thought I saw a UOian former preaching on this corner – something about sustainability and cleanliness or something like that. David and Cdawg were spotted here Yes, I work No complaints about tower city being empty! This place was empty at 1PM I love the clover Grill! Lawd. Imagine a place where Me, CDM, MayDay, AJ93, KOOW and ProkNo5 work. That’s what the staff and atmosphere is like. They will curse you out and serve your food at the same time! I love it. I have a whole new disrespect for the hick and hillbillies after this trip after some of the things I saw and heard. Things so funny I wish I had a camcorder. and if I hear “ya’ll” one more time, I’m going go off! That’s all!
August 26, 201014 yr You know you say "ya'll" in Shaker Square. You're not THAT far from Glenville! "You don't just walk into a bar and mix it up by calling a girl fat" - buildingcincinnati speaking about new forumers

August 26, 201014 yr That bitch can cook! I can't stand her! I did go to some great restaurants while there. I had the best fire BBQ Shrimp. It was like a volcano in my mouth, but so good!!
August 26, 201014 yr Well, summer is the bizzaro winter for the south. Outside is too oppressive, so best to stay indoors. Convention business really dries up after June 1st until October..otherwise known as Hurricane season. Even though the new job is in Houston, I still go back to NOLA every weekend. Thanks for the call, jerk. :)
August 26, 201014 yr Thanks for the pics, MTS. Hot weather probably kept a lot of people off the streets.
August 26, 201014 yr Thanks for the pics, MTS. Hot weather probably kept a lot of people off the streets. I don't think so. There were very few people out on the streets even after dark. I've never seen it so empty. Not including the months right after the hurricane.
August 26, 201014 yr I work at the Sonesta on weekends (still....cant give it up yet) and they said August is always the worst month. It got even worse since Katrina, but only slightly. What you have now is a post Katrina August about a month after the height of the oil spill news hysteria. So it is a bad August, from the hotel and bartenders view, but not much worse than a typical August.

August 30, 201014 yr He went down to the coastal shore and took pics with oil on his hands with Anderson Cooper, he just isn't showing 'em lololol Are the seafood restaurants deserted down there? I hear they're really struggling right now. Shame, too. New Orleans is one of the top places to dine.

I've spent enough time in Oil refinery to know I dont like the smell. Many of the restaurants I visited are doing bad. When you go to a restaurant and only 6 tables are seated, somethings wrong. When I was there during the Essence Music Fest, there were places that, didn't appear busy, especially with the amount of people EMF brings in. However, our research show many didn't go out or went to free events. The overall economy, the local economy and the issues beyond the cities control are having a lasting affect on the city. I've also never seen Harrah's so "empty". There were 4 people on my BJ table and 1 or 2 on a few others. I was winning so I didn't care, but it seemed odd.
September 6, 201014 yr ^ hehehe "BJ table" You get south of I-70 and Paula Deen lookalike fatties are the norm!

It's like visiting Shaker Stripmall in late February.
