March 23, 20214 yr They’re not the greatest, but I tried to snag a few shots of the upcoming Trolley Barn District. Supposedly, they are going to announce several tenants next month. Honestly, this is one of the projects in town I’m most excited about. I think it could bring a lot of local business and more interest to the area.

May 20, 20214 yr Trolley District near Franklin Park aims for August opening with food hall, brewpub Jim Weiker - The Dispatch - May 20, 2021 "DeHays expects the first phase of the district, the East Market building, a food hall and bar that anchors the development, to open in August, followed in the fall by the Columbus Brewing Co. brewpub and beer garden. ... In all, the development will house about two dozen food, bar and retail tenants in five buildings on more than 3 acres. The project is so expansive that DeHays changed the name from the Trolley Barn project to the Trolley District. ... Ultimately, the District will also include the Trolley District Apartments, a five-story, 102-unit apartment building on the southeast corner of Oak Street and Kelton Avenue, across the street from the East Market building. DeHays plans to start on the apartments in the spring." I took these last weekend while checking on the progress:

Sad to see Yellow Brick Pizza closing their original 18th & Oak location. But it's great news for the Trolley Barn project at 18th & Kelton that they will re-open there. Hopefully, Yellow Brick Pizza can do for the Franklin Park area at 18th & Kelton what they did for the Olde Towne East area at 18th & Oak. And hopefully a new tenant moves into Yellow Brick's old location to keep that momentum going as well.
June 15, 20213 yr Columbus Brewing, Yellow Brick, Local Cantina among those on Trolley Barn roster A menu of established names and new and expanding upstarts will be part of the Trolley Barn development when it opens later this summer. The first phase of the much anticipated Near East Side redevelopment of the former Columbus Electric Trolley Barn property at 1600 E. Oak St. remains on track for an August opening. The first piece to open to the public will be the East Market, which is taking part of a 40,000-square-foot building on the site. Hell celebrate them all and invite EVERYONE! lol December 21 is National Sangria Day as well as National Coquito Day so they can serve those!-can any part of this development serve liquor? I can't remember and do not want to look it up. *I will be there to buy something spend some(small)amount of money-as long as I have my Covid booster, there is not snow or ice on the roads, and I am not dead yet of course. My understanding is the openings of both of those businesses won’t be until early next year, however. The article mentions they’re also booking events for the end of the year, so they must (hopefully?) be pretty confident they’ll actually, truly open in December. I’d love to celebrate some winter holidays over there! Edited September 9, 20213 yr by amped91

November 18, 20213 yr Cross-posted from the Columbus Restaurants thread: 36 minutes ago, ColDayMan said: East Market at Full Capacity with 5 Additional Vendors Announced The date is nearing closer for the East Market to make its much-anticipated debut in the Trolley District at 212 Kelton Ave. An announcement about a soft opening date is expected by the end of the month, but in the meantime, the market has reached capacity with five additional vendors taking over the remaining spaces. Cleveland import Ohio City Pasta will solidify its Central Ohio presence through its first physical location in Columbus. A frequenter of farmers markets and available at select local grocery store, Ohio City Pasta is not unknown to Columbus tastebuds, but at the market, they’ll be making fresh pasta on-site. Making fresh pasta for over 30 years, Ohio City’s wares include a variety of flavors of flat cut pasta, ravioli, gnocchi and more. East Market will be the second market-style setup for Ohio City, which has operated out of its flagship space at Cleveland’s West Side Market since 1991. June 4, 20223 yr The East Market may finally be open, but work continues on the restoration of the remainder of the Trolley District. They haven’t released any news on it, but I remember the apartment was part of the original plan. Will be interesting to see if they do a small corner retail spot or if it is all apartment.

Yep, 5 stories is probably the max due to the neighborhood and the size of the lot. Hopefully they can produce some quality architecture and a mix of uses to continue revitalizing the area.

Yeah, supposed to be 102 apartments, so probably not huge. Still good density there though, and plenty of amenities coming online. Was supposed to start this past spring, but like everything, I’m sure there were plenty of material delays. Like I posted in the Near East Side thread, some equipment has started showing up, so maybe we’ll still see a groundbreaking this year.
September 20, 20222 yr I seem to recall reading that the first floor of the apartment building across Oak would be commercial space. But now I can't find documentation for this claim, so I can't remember if this is a false memory or not. Did a bit more digging this afternoon, and this must’ve been what we were thinking of: The plans submitted in 2019 had one 102-unit apartment building and a separate retail building. The plans states the retail spot would serve the on site brewery. Plans also included a sketch of both buildings. About this time last year, new plans were submitted with two apartment buildings with covered parking and a fitness center. The FSCP that @cbussoccerposted was just submitted yesterday and no documents are available to view yet, but the description only mentions the singular “apartment building” again, so I guess we’ll see what we end up getting.

September 20, 20222 yr 1 hour ago, cbussoccer said: How do you go about finding these previously submitted plans? The first one I found under the zoning applications search engine. You may need to adjust the start date a couple years back, since it defaults to 2019. And I searched a range of 1580-1620 Oak, since I wasn’t sure which address they were using for the projects (Looks like 1600 Oak for the primary project and 1599 specifically for the apartments). The second one I found under the engineering applications search engine, using the same parameters.
September 23, 20222 yr So excited for this one to finally open. Glad to see an update on it. Their FB post has a couple progress pictures too.
October 12, 20222 yr The most recent version of the site plans for the residential component of the project are now viewable on the access portal. October 31, 20222 yr Another construction update from CBC. Unfortunately, it looks like we’ll have to wait until next year to check it out: Columbus Brewing provides update, target opening time, for near east side restaurant and taproom “According to the post, the new restaurant plans to retain as much of the Trolley District’s historical charm—the development is built on a former hub for the city’s trolley cars—as possible. And that means plenty of vintage brickwork. “Our team wanted to keep as much of the character as possible—so we kept the original brick walls, ceiling, and support beams which brings so much history to life,” the post reads. While there’s still plenty of work to do before we can enjoy the space, its grand opening is coming up quickly. According to Columbus Brewing’s Director of Marketing Evan Magliocca, early 2023 isw the target opening date for the new restaurant.“ https://614now.com/2022/food-drink/columbus-brewing-provides-update-target-opening-time-for-near-east-side-restaurant-and-taproom
February 13, 20232 yr Cross post from Columbus Beer and Alcohol news, so if the double post is annoying, I get it being deleted. But CBC's soft opening is this weekend, which means the full opening should be imminent.
