September 13, 201014 yr Very cool. LA has a flower district in downtown as well. It's funny to see the difference between night and day in these areas. At leas in LA at night it's closed up store fronts with homeless people sleeping in front. During the day, you've got people everywhere, and the whole street is bursting with colors and great smells.
September 19, 201014 yr Very nice! I want to check out this area next time I'm in NYC. Wish we had a "flower district." Chicagoans are obsessed with their green roofs and gardens. I'm sure a centralized place would do well.
September 19, 201014 yr Very nice! I want to check out this area next time I'm in NYC. you'd better hurry and do it fast; the flower district is a fraction of it once was, and fading fast, due to rampant gentrification/yuppification of that neighborhood. A number of years ago, just a few blocks to the south, there was a large flea market--known for attracting people from all over (including celebrities)--covering several parking lots along 6th Ave. down to 23d St. That's pretty much all gone (although I think it still exists in a much abbreviated form on some side streets) due to a string of ugly hi-rise apts along that stretch. http://www.mainstreetpainesville.org/
