Hey, all.  A lot of us know a lot about downtown Cleveland and spend a lot of time here sharing our knowledge.

But when you Google "downtown cleveland", one of the first results you see is the Wikipedia page (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Downtown_Cleveland).  And a lot of this page is horribly out of date.

Some of the pictures have been updated more recently, but a lot of the text is old.  For example, here are some areas that could use some work:

- Update language/NAME on Euclid Corridor section

- Remove/amend Stark project (also fix corresponding mention in Warehouse District)

- Mention of 668 Euclid

- Update E 4th plans/stores

- Update language/years at end of Avenue District

- Update Flats with latest plans for FEB

- Update convention center section with details about the new Mall C plans

- Update Lakefront plans?

- Update population stats in first paragraph with something more recent (and amend "Others" section's population line)

- New CSU developments (and change Quadrangle to Campus District?)

- Add in something about the Medical Mart

- Add a section about the Casino (and temporary casino)

- Add section/mention about Downtown Cleveland Alliance and the special improvement district

- Add section about District of Design

- Add section about Perk Park redevelopment

As you probably know, ANYONE can edit a Wikipedia article.  Just click the "Edit" tab near the upper right corner of the screen!  You don't even need a Wikipedia account to do this, however signing up for one will give you a lot of added benefits.

Wikipedia does have some formatting tricks (like this forum does) but it's not that difficult if you look at what's currently there.

There's also a "View History" tab where you can see other changes that have been made recently.  This makes it very easy to undo someone's changes as well.  Be careful when posting images -- Wikipedia editors are VERY picky about copyrights and such.

I can't think of a better group to modify the downtown Cleveland Wikipedia article than the people on this forum.  This is one of the main pages the world uses to learn about our city!  Let's make it rock.

Great idea jborger!

I've updated some Cleveland pages in the past, including the Soldier and Sailors Monument and University Circle.

Maybe some of our great photographers can provide some more pictures as well?  Ex: Theater District, Cleveland State, Soldiers and Sailors Monument, Gateway Stadiums

Lets make Cleveland's Wikipedia page a World Class Wikipedia page!!!!!

As an example, they still listed the Campus District as "The Quadrangle".  So I updated that this morning.  The section still talks a lot about CSU... Maybe a little too much since CSU has its own Wikipedia page?

I rather have a picture of city hall or any of those instead of the justice center

JBorger, I agree. Good points...and some of the photos should be updated to include the best. I have seen so many on this forum that would be perfect. This washed out Edgewater view they had on there is sloppy. We have so many photos here that do the place much more justice. I would also emphasize more on population of the greater metro area as well...and maybe neighborhoods. Maybe even a Gardens Under Glass mention.

I saw that.  No, I wasn't involved.  There were some people with the City Advocates programs at the Downtown Cleveland Alliance that brought this up to me.  Maybe they started that..

I know this isn't Downtown Cleveland, but Asiatown doesn't even have it's own wiki page.

In regards to expanding other Cleveland wiki pages:

I found myself reading up on CWRU football history, and before I knew it, I created a wiki page:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Case_Western_Reserve_Spartans_football

Some interesting history for Case and Western Reserve football.  Who knew Knute Rockne made his coaching debut in University Circle?  Or a Case football player was the first professional player to throw a forward pass?

Another fun fact -- Western Reserve is the only Ohio team with a winning record against the OSU Buckeyes.  Supposedly a buckeye tree was planted on Case campus during the last meeting in 1934 ... Anyone know if this tree is still alive?

The "Big Four Conference" was a pleasant find for college football in Cleveland during 1930's and 1940's.  I wonder if the Campbell city trophy still exists today somewhere?  All I could figure out is that it was named after the president of the Cleveland Club, who built the Tudor Arms hotel building.

With national and international media ascending on Cleveland over these next few weeks for the RNC, I highly suggest we spruce up many of our Cleveland and Cleveland-related wiki pages.

It's a safe bet to expect a lot more articles like this: http://www.chicagotribune.com/lifestyles/travel/midwest/ct-cleveland-ohio-rnc-travel-0710-20160627-story.html

Therefore, I anticipate a lot of lazy reporting...let's make it easy for them to get updated and more complete information.

So I just improved the Cleveland city Sports section.  It previously reeked on negative undertones, focusing primarily on not winning a title.

Now it's more objective, and includes sports successes:

Check out the "public transit" heading in the Infobox:  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DiSanto_Field

I've figured out how to incorporate public transportation offerings / logistics.

This is, of course, scalable to all Cleveland places on wikipedia.

That looks really good. If visitors or even locals are looking up destinations on there and they see that, it might cause some of them to consider taking transit when it wasn't on their radar before.

Someone might want to change the article in wikipedia about the height of the Terminal Tower in the Tallest buildings in Cleveland part-it is listed as 708 feet, not 771 feet,  in Emporis, CTBUH, and on the main wiki page of tallest buildings in the US. (and they actually list Emporis as a source for this 771 foot height in the tallest buildings in Cleveland page)

Just something I noticed.  For Cleveland and accuracy and all.  ;D

We also need to change the Wiki for Ohio City and Tremont

would be good to see a section on transportation on the page--like tower city, E22/Prospect, Health Line, Burke Airport, the Port, Amtrak Station, etc.

Done.  TT went from 142nd tallest to 83rd tallest in the USA.

LOL! Well hey at least the information matches now.

^ yep, no problem.  And just a friendly reminder, with the amount of knowledge and blogging power we have on here, anyone can edit these pages.

I was always under the impression that the Terminal Tower is 708' with a 60' flag pole. Topping it out at 768'

Although, the book "The Terminal Tower Complex" from 1980 does state that the flag pole is 65' tall for a total of 773'. I also have a coffee cup from the mid-80's that states the 773' as well...

I've recently heard 777' or 778'.  Could be adjustments to it.

BUMP

As discussed before, Cleveland yields poor results on wikipedia...namely coverage of its neighborhoods and history.  If i had to point to one way to explain it, our navbox tells it all.

Here is Cleveland: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Template:Cleveland

Here is Philadelphia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Template:Philadelphia

If we want something closer to our own metro size, check out the coverage (and pride) Pittsburgh people have: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Template:Pittsburgh

With that said, I may overall the city Navbox, to be comparable to a Philadelphia look.  We do have some good content in various wiki pages, it's just not in an easy way to see all at once and digest.  But we're still pretty thin in a lot of areas, such as neighborhoods not even having a wiki page.

Why do you think that is, MuRrAy? Do you think some cities pay people to fill up their wiki pages or something?

I bet some do.  To me, this is an intern level job (or a semi-professional Urbanohioers).  Some of these pages can be overhauled in a half day’s work.

Well, I did put in two hours on Cleveland’s Navbox last night.  Check it out:  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Template:Cleveland

You can go back through the edit history to see what is used to look like before yesterday.

You’ll see this Navbox when you scroll to the bottom on most of the linked pages, for example: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sports_in_Cleveland

That looks a lot better than yesterday!

I never knew this thread existed. I've been saying Ohio City's page BADLY needs revamping!!!

Ditto!  You're in charge, kind sir.

BTW, you guys definitely checked out my improvements on the Cleveland Navbox.  One feature I love about wiki is it allows you to access page views.

Here is the spike in views from yesterday (which i attribute to UrbanOhio clicks):  https://tools.wmflabs.org/pageviews/?project=en.wikipedia.org&platform=all-access&agent=user&range=latest-20&pages=Template:Cleveland

^updated the Cleveland NavBox again. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Template:Cleveland

1) In the process of creating this new page for Cleveland Kurentovanje:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Cleveland_Kurentovanje

What improvements/suggestions do you all have for me?

2) I also created a “Breweries” section to our “Culture” on the main Cleveland wiki page, which was completely

missing in any form...which I feel is an increasingly part of our identity.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cleveland#Breweries

Part of my complaints about how Cleveland is written about on wiki is that it leans waaaaay too much on our past.... and needs to continually updated to have more of a present tone.
