Posted September 12, 201014 yr I had to work in Los Angeles for the last week so my parents and my oldest nephew and youngest niece and nephew came out. It was one of the worst/weirdest weeks I have had. Here are some shots around the city, although I forget to take pic most of the time. HOLLYWOOD DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES I rarely go downtown. It's a ghost town. Downtown is completely dead except in places near the hotels. There were hardly any workers on the street. It was surreal. We have one in Cleveland :P I dont know what this bldg is/was, but it would make fantastic condos Inside the LA Times. I want that inside my apartment! City Hall China Town/Downtown We got turned around on the free way and somehow ended up behind Union Station. :? So we got out to take a look inside. Reminds me of some other art deco building. Now where have I seen this? The waiting area are gorgeous! The concourse to the trains looks as though it has changed since the building was constructed You make your way up to the platforms here. The gold line train stops on one of the platforms. The other rail lines use the remaining platform. WESTWOOD/RANCHO PARK Some shots of the hood while on my jog. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. The building and grounds are gorgeous. Sadly I've never toured the property. My old office. I could walk to work. Unheard of in LA. Century City They were setting up at 8 AM for lunch Trying to get across the street Westwood Village Again trying to cross the street. It takes like 5 minutes to cross. Waiting makes you lose momentum when you're jogging. :x Stan's Donuts. OMG! Best.Donuts.Ever! The highrise section of Wilsher Back into the neighborhood Those rapid transit vehicles look so familiar, now where have I seen this vehicle before? :wtf: The Century Plaza Hotel, also known as the "Western White House" SANTA MONICA We checked out the new outdoor mall adjacent to the Promenade. Good stores, but something feels so wrong about it. I didn't buy a thing! Shocking right?! The outdoor dining deck is nice, until the build something in front of it! HA! The kiddies and I went down to the pier while my Mom and Dad shopped, well my Mom shopped and my dad carried bags. It was super foggy My adventurous nieces decides to take a high wire class. The nephews decided to ride the roller coaster ...over... ..and over.. Of course I made them suffer on the new bumper cars! :P >:D Back to the Mall VENICE Those damn ankle bitters were up at 5AM and ready to go to the damn beach! :whip: I should have listened, as the parking was horrendous. Its was a coomplete clusterfuck at 10AM! White men can jump My nephew is mad because I made him wear a helmet and knee pads at the skate park. He says he felt so "uncool" next to the big kids! The Venice Canals. I would hate to get lost back here at night! Bye Venice. Damn kids didn't even get into the water. "It's too cold" Damn whiners! and on top of it there was an accident that cause three lanes to be closed! Turning at 20/25 minute drive into an hour. The backup spread down to the Venice on ramp. so we couldn't even get off to take the city streets! :x WATTS My, after seeing a Sanford and son episode, announces he wants to go to Watts. I honestly thought he was joking. So the kids and I jump in the car. My mom was says, "have fun" and goes out to the pool. The neighborhood was bad, but not as bad as I imagined. Although some parts make the kinsman area look like Pepper Pike. Some of these houses are so tiny, I dont think my clothes could fit in them The Watts Towers One of Americas earliest green projects. This dude was a visionary. It was completely amazing. There is a Blue line train station not to far away. BEVERLY HILLS I totally forgot to take pictures of the residential area. Most people think BH is all Rodeo Drive and Big Mansions, but the residential areas are pretty basic south of Wilshire. And even north of Santa Monica there are some tiny homes. To me the homes on South Park, North Park, Fairmount, Chestnut Hill, Harcourt , Parkland are more beautiful than what you find in BH. I had to do some shopping...You didn't think I would go to LA and not shop! Shopping with MTS, Mother MTS and my ultra fabulous next door neighbor. My next door neighbor is me if I was a lesbian. She has immaculate taste. It's scary. Many store fronts are vacant and you can tell the street has taken a hit with the economy. You go a block over and BH looks like any other city There's a tacky cheesecake factory! UNIVERSITY PARK While my nephew and dad met with admission peeps at USE, the ankle biters and I toured the neighborhood. I dont get down here much and the last real time I was here was in '84. Once for the Olympics and once for my campus visit. It was a crappy neighborhood then and the main reason why I favored UCLA over USC. I couldn't take any pics on the inside. The museum and gardens are nice but the neighborhood is still "iffy" to me. Back home to Cleveland OK...technically that's not Cleveland, I think some dude from the forum lives down there, but you get the picture!
September 12, 201014 yr Watts isn't that bad (not even The Jungle). "You don't just walk into a bar and mix it up by calling a girl fat" - buildingcincinnati speaking about new forumers
September 13, 201014 yr Venice Beach looks really clean and accessible. That has to be one of the best beaches around. The parking lots probably clutter it up a bit but at least they're easy to get to. That's a big pet peeve of mine. The beaches I've been to in Florida and Cape Cod are pretty hard to access in the the more popular areas (which defeats the point) unless you're staying at a hotel fronting the beach. Venice Beach seems pretty well planned.
September 13, 201014 yr WHY ARE YOU FOLLOWING ME. STOP FOLLOWING ME j/k Nice pics. I like the new Santa Monica Place. I saw the deck on a foggy morning, so all I could see was a blank white background above the rooflines
September 13, 201014 yr It has been foggy almost every day this summer along the coast! Some sort of strong Alaskan current giving us SF weather. Lots of people have been happy about it because it has kept it very cool throughout LA... I prefer some heat though!
September 13, 201014 yr Now that's more of what I expected LA to look like rather than the downtown LA thread! I totally would've mistaken the DTLA thread to be somewhere in the midwest/northeast had it not been specified that it's LA!
September 13, 201014 yr Muy buenos fotos, amigo. Gracias! Loca! LOL ;) Venice Beach looks really clean and accessible. The beach itself is cool. Except when the seaweed comes in or the jellyfish spawn. Some parts are very frat and there are some pretty run down homes on Pacific Ave. that front the beach. Not to mention the characters and the drunks. As we were walking back to the car, some dude come up to my oldest nephew. He was blitz and mistaken my nephew for someone he knows. He said, "yo duuuude, I love the ladies and the ladies love me. Don't you think the ladies love me? Why can't I get laid?" Then he puts arm around my nephew like he knew him. My nephew is as big of a germaphobe as I am. He was like GTF off of me. Then the drunks friends ran over. The kid was staggering, dazed, had on no shoes, his trunks were falling down and he was drooling. My neice asks, "You want me to take him out?" LOL The area has lots of programming and is family friendly so it's a must see. If you have kids and you want to relax while the frolic in the water. I prefer Will Rogers and Point Dume Beaches.
September 13, 201014 yr WHY ARE YOU FOLLOWING ME. STOP FOLLOWING ME j/k Nice pics. I like the new Santa Monica Place. I saw the deck on a foggy morning, so all I could see was a blank white background above the rooflines Follow you?! You wish! LOL You like it? It's too open for me. Theres not enough seperation from real "shoppers" and "window shoppers". It's like a big hangout place. It's still "new" so we'll see how it does. You're right about the fog making area above the roof lines look like a big canvas.

Lots of people have been happy about it because it has kept it very cool throughout LA... I prefer some heat though! Thats what the neighbors said. A couple of days I woke up with fog being really thick. I could barely see Moron Temple or Century City. It was so foggy I was running on the sidewalk, so I wouldn't get hit, as I could only see 30/40 feet in front of me. IIRC, this is the first time I've experienced the thick/dense morning fog/smog east of the 405. Going north to work thru the Hollywood hills/Bellaire I've seen it but never down below.
September 13, 201014 yr Now that's more of what I expected LA to look like rather than the downtown LA thread! I totally would've mistaken the DTLA thread to be somewhere in the midwest/northeast had it not been specified that it's LA! It's like downtown detroit. It appears to be only government workers down there or people transiting to other areas.
September 13, 201014 yr SMP is definitely a very "hang out place." The biggest proof was the number of people in that place before 10:00 when the stores opened. I don't know if people were just there to admire the architecture or were simply waiting.

September 13, 201014 yr Are they still not trimming the palm trees around LA. Last time I was out there, they had stopped doing that and they all looked like sh!te with the dead branches just hangning below the canopy.
