Alright, just got done uploading my Hollywood photos.  Unlike the DTLA thread, I took these all last week.  Some of Hollywood Blvd, and others off in the neighborhoods.  I think this area has some great density and shows alot of promise for new infill projects.  Not to mention there is great access to transit

It's probably LA's best TOD.

Stalker.  Biter.  Copycat.  :P  oh BTW, nice pics.

Yeah, Hollywood is legit.  It's proof that transit can and does work in LA.  I read an article a few years ago about how Hollywood's model of Red Line development should be copied all around LA.  Basically Hollywood has built up huge complexes around it's two most prominant rail stations (Hwood and Highland and Hwood and Vine), which although sort of inward facing, has made destinations out of the stops.  With a destination comes people, and with people comes spin off development done in TOD friendly way.  If LA can do that with all of its transit stops, the thinking is that they will bleed together and create dense, pedestrian friendly zones of the city rather than just isolated islands of development.

Right now one of the offices I work out of is south of Hollywood on Sunset.  I've worked in this area for years.  EMI/Capitol was one of the company's who wanted to revitalize hollywood.  I remember when you could get a prostitute while exiting the highway on Yucca, Vine or Cahuenga.  The area still has not turned around.  It's very disjointed the area is.  Just look at some of the businesses on Hollywood in between those stations.

The ares directly above those two stations maybe destinations, Highland more so than Vine, but after business hours, those stations are dead.  We did a PSA at the Vine Station in conjunction with two other company's.  We didnt even have to reroute traffic, there was less traffic than the WFL.

West Hollywood, Westwood, North Hollywood, hancock park are more walkable and TOD IMHO.

^Now, how can Hancock Park, Westwood, or West Hollywood be considered TOD when there's no rail or brt transit there?? Being 'dead' (which actually is not the case in Hollywood) has nothing to do with walkability, either.  Honestly, how could you say Hollywood Blvd, Sunset, or Vine is dead!?

UM...isn't that what the rapid lines are?  For folks in Cleveland the "LA Rapid" is the exact same thing as the EC.  Easy, those areas are dead after business hours, weekends being the exception.

I disagree with that one.  Hollywood & Highland is usually busy even after hours and the Vine station is MUCH better after business hours than, say, Hancock Park or West Hollywood.  Westwood is a college town so it's natural for it to be more 24/7.

I'll give you H&H due to the "mall", but Vine?  Not so sure about that.

Vine's got that W Hotel, the nightclubs, the "trendy" restaurants, etc.  Hancock Park has what, Village Pizzeria?

Have you been into the W (it is a gorgeous hotel on the inside. It's one of my favorite W's and I'm a HUGE W fan.), Drais, or Delphine?  What right next to the W or blocks away.  It's dead man!

I never said it was St. Mark's or something but it's not AS dead as Hancock Park.

I like the Grove/Hancock Park.  It's more walkable, transit friendly and continuously developed than eastern Hollywood.

Meh, it's more streetcar suburban than East Hollywood.  It's certainly "nicer" and has that rapid bus thing but there's no viable faster transit (re: subway) versus the Vine Station and The Grove faces inwards (difficult to reach from the street).

True but all the major westside street (wilshire, Sunset, Pico, Santa Monica, Venice, Etc) have Rapid lines.  It the only option. I still think it's a better situated than Hollywood!  :P

You just like the location, you whore!

LMAO!

Anyone who uses The Grove in a discussion about TOD is automatically discredited.  It's a tacky inward facing development surrounded by massive parking garages.

Bingo.  But he's from Shaker Square.
