The first Quaker Steak

Sharon.jpg

Awesome!  Always wondered what Sharon was like.  And I love Quaker Steak & Lube!!

Quaker Steak!

Used to be an FM station in Sharon that played nothing but Polka music, all day long.

The Winner!  The Win-ner! The worlds's largest.....off-price-fashion-store!  Remember?

^ I remember hearing those commercials on TV/Radio growing up out side Warren.

You didn't get any pics of Daffin's? And is Reyer's closed?

Holy crap, I totally remember that.  There was a whole raft of Sharon business that advertised together in the Cleveland market.  I think Reyers shoes also advertised as the wold's largest.  And a candy store too.  I think some high school friends and I actually drove out there one day when skipping school in the early 90s, to be ironic.  Wow were we annoying.

I have a co-worker who lives in Sharon.  I've always wondered what it looks like.

If his house, and the large stone mansion above are any indication, Sharon has some decent housing stock, too.

I have to drive through Sharon occassionally and while there is some decent stock, there's a lot of dilapidated homes, particularly coming off of the west side of the city near the PA / Ohio Border.

Nice set.

And that's Youngstown's SATELLITE. Sometimes I cry at these gaffes.

Nice set! There are still a lot of splendid old classic homes in good shape along the main drag. Cannot forget Kranak's...and Reyers.. (did their main store close or consolidate with the one in the plaza?) Shenango river meets the Mahoning River and is very scenic near there, actually. Going into PA...at the top of the hill from old 82 looking east..the night view is awesome! There was also a nice "crooners" hall of fame there.

When a friend of mine was going to Penn State Shenango in the 80's... I visited there a lot at the house they rented. We nicknamed it "Disorder by the Border" as a tribute to the falling apart house and chaotic parties they used to have. It was western PA's version of Animal House!

By "decent housing stock" I meant original build quality/character, not so much their present condition.  Though, I'm sorry to hear that many homes are dilapidated.

Quaker Steak has got the worst menu.  At least there is a reason to go to Hooter's.

Thanks, I always wondered what this place looked like.  It shows up juuuust on the edge of the DeLorme Ohio atlas....l
