April 26, 20223 yr This development really has me conflicted. The bad things I know about George come from site's like this. I'm sure they're true because there is so much smoke there has to be fire too. Plus there is that d*ck move of his to buy that dilapidated property on the hillside where a phenomenal park is planned. Holding up the park for a higher price than that corner lot is worth is a smart business move but also says alot about his character. Now we have what looks like an amazing plan for that long neglected section of Old River Rd. If it wasn't Bobby George behind it we would all be jumping for joy. If it DOES come to fruition as shown in the plans I guess I'll just hold my nose and smile because while George does stink that plan certainly doesn't.

I'm guessing the latter; but the more health-oriented it is, the less it will compete with other downtown locations. Remember: It's the Year of the Snake

Initiated by the WOMEN'S CITY CLUB, the 4-year project culminated in the opening of Heritage Park I on the east bank of the river 4 July 1976, which featured a replica of LORENZO CARTER's cabin. May 24, 20223 yr Recently spent some time in FEB and thought, man, how great would it be if the surface lots across from Punchbowl Social and along Front Avenue got developed. Any plans for this? Also, was astounded at the lines for some of the bars. That area could use more bars on the weekend for sure. What's it like during the week?
May 24, 20223 yr ^ I’m not down there all the time, but I’d say during the week they are definitely quieter, although still busy as we get into summer. The only place that seems to have cracked the code for constant, bustling, all year ‘round business is Beerhead. My hovercraft is full of eels

June 8, 20223 yr To add to what I posted about The Pearl in the Tremont thread, I also just came across a filing by Realife with the city for The Pine development on Columbus Road. A refresher: https://neo-trans.blog/2022/03/03/the-pine-to-grow-on-flats-columbus-rd-peninsula/ Lots of extremely detailed design schematics in the 62-page phase 1 zoning submittal by their architect Berardi Partners. If they're trying to pump up the value for one or both properties (Pine and Pearl) for resale, Realife is going to extreme lengths to do so. I think they're legitimately trying to develop these sites. Can they? We shall see..... June 16, 20222 yr From the Metroparks Agenda: Marlin has agreed to sell the ± 1.1-acre property via fee simple title for $4,000,000. Cleveland Metroparks will work to secure outside funding and other creative sources to help fund the acquisition, but the acquisition will not be contingent upon being awarded such funds. Staff will come back to the Board to finalize any potential grant application(s) in the coming months and is currently exploring other partnerships to help preserve the Marlin Property, up to and including seeking a partner to assign a partial interest in the purchase agreement for the non-riverfront portion of the Marlin Property for future development. Acquisition of the Marlin Property would further the vision of connecting Rivergate Park and Flats East Bank along the Cuyahoga River for public access and enjoyment for future generations. Also this: The first one we already knew about, but it hasn't been confirmed for a while since its initial report. The second isn't too much of a surprise, and I think there's been some rumors about it, but I'm very excited about it. The Metropark's involvement is obviously a good sign for anyone interested in quality trails and green space! (Also seeing the added land to Rivergate park makes me think that British St. aught to be closed, it serves no purpose, and I'm sure the metroparks could make more use of the newly acquired space if it were continuous.)

June 16, 20222 yr I think "Cleveland Center" is one of Cleveland's most interesting historic areas. I'd like to see that preserved and thoughtfully expanded upon. I hope it does not turn into a giant park.

Also, would love to see an adaptive reuse of the silos, like the Quaker silos in Akron. And the portion of the Cantanese complex at the corner of Center and Merwin would make such a cool restaurant venue, with the patio overlooking the swing bridge. Edited June 16, 20222 yr by marty15
June 16, 20222 yr I love a good park, but this area has the potential to be a really cool neighborhood. June 16, 20222 yr Agreed. There will be plenty off park space with Irishtown Bend and Canal Basin. The city needs POPULATION, and this would be a fantastic neighborhood.
June 16, 20222 yr It isn't like Cleveland is hurting for good land to build housing on. Between the abundant surface lots and neighborhoods in need of rejuvenation, there is plenty of space to expand the housing stock. What Cleveland needs is more draw. Parks are a draw, people like to live near well maintained parks, the bigger the park the bigger the draw. See what happened with Edgewater, or Billionaire's row across from Central Park. Adding more park space won't work in opposition to adding density, but rather in conjunction.

Edgewater on the westside, planned CHEERS expansion on the east, and Irishtown Bend centrally I think some smaller parks integrated into the neighborhoods makes a lot of sense.

On Friday, the Zaclon River Landing project announced that it was awarded over $800,000 from the Brownfield program, which was just a portion of the $50 million awarded to several local entities. July 19, 20222 yr Forget if there’s a south flats thread but here’s an update from Cleveland Whiskey stating they’ve bought the neighboring building to pair with their existing project: “we signed a long-term lease on a historic building in the Flats a while back. We’re in the middle of putting in the plumbing, electrical, a new roof, a sprinkler system, and of course, writing a lot of checks. I’d always wanted to buy it but at the time, the landlord didn’t want to sell. That’s changed. We’re not only buying 601 Stones Levee but a bigger parcel that includes the neighboring building at 501, as well as the space in between which is pretty exciting in and of itself. It’s an old red brick city street, decommissioned years ago and now something we’ll ultimately use for concerts, special events, outdoor dining, maybe some weddings, and who knows what else.”
July 19, 20222 yr Are fixing and reopening Stones Levee past of this?I would guess that would be the cities purview and I don’t remember hearing anything about it in the public meetings this project has been a part of

November 3, 20222 yr Historic buildings to be razed in Flats By Ken Prendergast / November 3, 2022 A row of buildings along Columbus Road in the Flats is due to be razed in the coming weeks by an active, local real estate developer. But there is no plan to replace buildings, including two from the 19th century that stand in a nationally registered historic district. Instead, according to a partner at the property’s owner, Integrity Realty Group (IRG) of Beachwood, the contiguous buildings would be demolished to keep them from falling down on innocent passersby. No structural analysis was included in the owner’s demolition requests to the city.
