He is complaining about "unfinished buildings?"  Apparently in Philly, building construction happens in a blink of an eye like in Sim City.

Being in Philly, he's probably unfamiliar with what it actually looks like when new buildings are built.

Is that what passes for journalism in Philadelphia (by the way the city with the worse airport to fly into in the nation...good chance you might not fly out for two days).

Meh, I don't blame Philadelphia for one writer's opinion.  Every city is guilty with these type of writers.  Both Cincinnati and Philadelphia's waterfronts are currently underconstruction so neither should talk.

The comments are really ripping the guy.

As they should.

It was also meant as something of a not-entirely-serious, joke-type column, however clumsy in its execution.

I can only hope it doesn't go viral and result in a bunch of well-meaning yet insecure Cincinnatians over-reacting in an indignant, methinks-thou-doth-protest-too-much huff (see, e.g. "Fair, Vanity").

What's up with people taking shots at Cincy? From Micheal Jackson to Colin Cowherd. WTF.

If you read the comments section on the Philly Inquirer website and do a quick google search of this guy, you find out pretty quickly that he's managed to offend nearly anyone who's ever read one of his columns.  This comes across as a net positive for Cincinnati to me.  Both Cincinnatians and Philadelphians have largely and for the most part peacefully come to the defense of our city.

As for Colin Cowherd, he's a classic ratings whore.  I heard a clip a few years back where he basically listed off the top few sports teams in the country and made it clear that talking about anyone else was bad for ratings.  Tearing down the little guys, like Cincinnati, just boosts the egos of the big markets to which he's referring.  Don't listen to him and you'll be better for it.

What did Cowherd say about Cincy? I know he said the Reds were overrated about a month ago but did he actually say something about the city?

I only know of his recent tirade against the Reds through local sports personalities who have commented on it, but he went on a rant against the city itself a year or two ago.  That was what finally pushed me over the edge to ignore him completely.

Yeah Cowherd

If it was up to Cowherd, each sports league would feature just 8 cities...

New York

Los Angeles

Chicago

Miami

Philadelphia

Boston

Dallas

Atlanta

Looks like David Stern's plan for the NBA.

I'm pretty sick of the anti-small market bias that exists in most major professional sports and the way many people in those cities act like they're entitled to championships.

^ Agreed.

I will say that this summer, there was a part of me that hoped the reds didn't get to show the nation the stadium area until next year because it really is a mess right now.  Weird I know but I guess I wasn't too far off becasue indeed an out of town writer commented about how ugly it was. I want to show it off when the park and Banks are done; will be awesome.

Hey maybe this is a wakeup call to the folks that don't want to spend money on the Banks or Fountain Square or public transportation:  leave things as is and expect bigger city writers to criticize. I certainly hope COAST folks aren't crying about this article becasue if it was up to them there would be no progress at all.

What a great guy:

"At night, from the Roebling Suspension Bridge, you can see the fires of encamped homeless on the shore. Some homeless also live on the bridge, which can enliven a late-night walk to Kentucky."

Yeah Cowherd

Some of those cities listed don't even support an NFL team (Boston doesn't look at the Patriots as their team since they moved to Foxboro) and Atlanta teams aren't often any good.

I disagree with you, I think most Bostonians definitely see the Pats as their team.

Sorry but everything in that article is true. I was reading the comments and they were just sad. So many people in denial.

Don't feed the troll.

In my opinion, commenting on the 'beauty' of a construction site does not exhibit much in the way of common sense in the first.  So was this guy just trying to be funny and did a horrible job executing as suggested above?

If I see ANY more blatant trolling on this website from you, it's a wrap like a JC Penney's gift card.

Heh, just saw this.  Philadelphia is really home to some of the most blatant assholes I have ever encountered.  I saw a flock of 20 or so Phillies fans en route to a Mets game this summer in New York.  They were all crushing cans of Keystone while walking down the streets of Chelsea.  Talk about a class act! They made the bums look like they were putting on the Ritz.  Now that I read this, I assume they were probably the sportswriters and reporters from Philly, if not the mayor and official delegation.

As for this reporter, I thought he was in jail for throwing up on that little girl a few months ago? Is he out already?

I think Casey had it right - overall it seemed to have a light-hearted tone.  I add that if people here get upset about it we really might not be a "big league" town.  However, if this forum is going to open up for direct pot-shots please let us all know.  This started off as like-minded individuals interested in all things urban.  If we are now supposed to agree with and comment on all national opinion pieces that are negative I am fine with following suit.  It could be fun.

its so over the top, its nothing to worry about.

Not worried about the article at all.

The guy is a sports writers.  They usually adopt the jerky-boy style.  Yawn.

I have never ever seen a camp fire under any bridge. I mean was he here for the game or just looking for trouble???

There is a very large homeless encampment along the river in the vicinity of Paul Brown Stadium, west of the Roebling Bridge.
