Here is the small town of Brimley.  Located on Lake Superior, just southwest of Sault Ste. Marie.

Looks like hard times in another disappearing small town. The only buildings that appear to be maintained are the two churches.

Oh dear.

Since there isn't an economy in these parts, it's pretty much people supporting themselves.  Either people leave for jobs downstate or move to Marquette and the Houghton-Hancock-Calumet area where's lots of good jobs. Besides the casino you can see the biggest business in town seems to be a museum which relies on passing tourists.

If some major industry employing tens of thousands of people moved up to the UP between the two metros I listed, it would probably be news of the century for Michigan.  The scenery is incredibly beautiful and IMO, some of the architecture is best in the state.

Only problem is distance, these places are remote.  My friends and I debated making a trip from Ann Arbor to Calumet, MI.  Just traveling across the state right?  Well, traveling to New York City was actually way faster.

At least the museum has free admission.

But you won't be able to resist purchasing the knic-knacks inside!!  Don't forget to buy the chunks of copper

That town needs Jesus.

Or Mohammad.  Either or will work.
