October 24, 201014 yr I don't ever want to live in one place the rest of my life. It would be a toss up between many different places. Stockholm, London, Tokyo, Sydney. I'd probably choose Sydney; what the hell. If I had my way, I'd be omni-present in every city. I want to go on an African Safari :(
October 24, 201014 yr I feel like I would be limited to an English speaking city. I don't know how many times I'm going to say this, but you kids need to learn a 2nd language coming out of the womb or you're going to be limited and left behind.

I don't know how many times I'm going to say this, but you kids need to learn a 2nd language coming out of the womb or you're going to be limited and left behind. Good observation. I am learning an Algonquian language. (Shawnee) Not for the usefulness in this world today, per se, but because few people can speak it and I would want to learn something a bit different. I know a bit of Italian already, but it sure could use some tuning. That came just from having a cursing Italian G.father around. Hmmmm...leaving the US, let's see...I already know I am not going to retire (and I mean retiring at an early age, not when I am nearly dead) in the US. I have wanted to expatriate for a while now, for various reasons..... Tasmania (state of Oz) Sydney, (area cities like Berry, Wolongong, Kiama, anything south coast) or, New Z. ...Maybe Tuscany, (lots of cousins there) perhaps.

I work with someone who has worked on Ottawa and Mingo, and I speak some Navajo.
October 24, 201014 yr HAVANA not under Communism Bodrum Turkey, Malta, Buenos Aires, SA, Canary Islands, Jakarta
October 24, 201014 yr Outside of the country, I would want to live in Toronto (feels like it could be a comfortable transition and the city is a television production powerhouse). But I've only been to Canada, so I'm not familiar with much of the world. I also think Sydney looks like a nice place to live. In terms of foreign language, I could probably jump back into Spanish, so Buenos Aires looks appealing (but I really know nothing about the place other than the pretty pictures). If I learned French or Arabic, I'd love to be in a place like Montreal or Beirut. What do you like about Toronto? I didn't think it was that great.
October 24, 201014 yr ^Safety, Lake Ontario, Downtown, lack of Detroit/Toledo type of slums. Stay away from Hooker-Harveys!
October 24, 201014 yr Australia looks like paradise. Country with one of the highest GDP per capita, beautiful white-sand beaches that almost everyone lives by, great urban cities but you're also not far from the Great Barrier Reef, weird wildlife you won't see anywhere else, and just natural beauty. Check out the waterfalls.
October 25, 201014 yr London, most likely. Maybe Cincinnati. I think that's a foreign country. London is just to damn expensive. This coming from a person who selectively looks at prices! I thought about making it the last place on my list, but I see London becoming more and more expensive
October 25, 201014 yr Tokyo, Istanbul, Rome, Amsterdam, Vancouver, some little town on Crete, Beunos Ares, Barcelona, Pitcairn Island
October 25, 201014 yr This is a hard question to answer. Cote D'Azur Barcelona San Juan Rio Milan MILAN!?!?!? Talk about dirty! *gasps* I'm with you on Barcelona though. "You don't just walk into a bar and mix it up by calling a girl fat" - buildingcincinnati speaking about new forumers
October 25, 201014 yr Tough question. Amsterdam would work pretty well. I'd say Turin, but I should probably visit before committing myself like this. Pitcairn Island Nice. You sure you wouldn't prefer Tristan da Cunha?

October 25, 201014 yr ^either would do. I'd be curious to live in someplace so remote for a little while. It could be detox from modern urban living, or if one doesn't handle it well, prison.
October 25, 201014 yr Mmmmmm, Berlin. I actually did move to Berlin and Essen for a year as a Bosch Fellow in 2008-2009. I highly recommend everyone check out the program ... They pay for German language training, airfare, health insurance and a pretty decent monthly stipend. They also coordinate a number of seminars ... Got to visit the UN, NATO, etc. http://www.cdsintl.org/fellowshipsabroad/bosch.php. If you guys are interested in moving abroad, it's amazing how many opportunities are out there to help facilitate it. Tons of fellowships, the Peace Corps and a broad array of opportunities for anyone willing to teach English as a Second Language.
October 25, 201014 yr Some place with Canadian girls. Singapore is a totalitarian state. They are not a democracy and they don't have the rule of law. The judiciary is a corrupt organ of the Lee government.

October 25, 201014 yr Copenhagen (or another sizable Nordic city), London, Amsterdam, Basel (or another sizable Swiss city), Cincinnati -- I know it's a foreign country.
October 25, 201014 yr Singapore is a totalitarian state. They are not a democracy and they don't have the rule of law. The judiciary is a corrupt organ of the Lee government. Ever see that movie "Return to Paradise"? These tourists got caught smoking hash and they told Vince Vaughn if he testified, his friend who was in jail would get a lesser sentence. Then after the trial, the judge was like "syke" and had both of them executed to set an example.
October 25, 201014 yr "Return to Paradise" was about Malaysia. I don't know if they transposed the two countries for some effect.
October 25, 201014 yr I notice a lot of people would move to Europe, vs. South America and Asia. I Love My Hair comes to mind to answer that question... "You don't just walk into a bar and mix it up by calling a girl fat" - buildingcincinnati speaking about new forumers

October 25, 201014 yr wait -- after new york maybe it should be papua new guinea, in the middle of the island where the map says, 'obscured by clouds' http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0069451/
October 26, 201014 yr I notice a lot of people would move to Europe, vs. South America and Asia. They're all just too uptight. I'm going to revise my decision, if not Seoul than probably Bangkok..
October 26, 201014 yr Someplace where they speak English, which probably means Canada (Toronto). I think Australia might be too "good old boy" for me. England could be interesting (Liverpool or Manchester would maybe be more affordable than London) but I'd die on the highways since Im dislexic and they drive on the left. ' Move to England to die in an auto accident. Oi Mate!
October 26, 201014 yr Of course the Land of the Square Door Knobs...Germany...but I'd have to learn that language.
October 26, 201014 yr Dublin London Somewhere in Germany or Switzerland in the forest adjacent to the Alps Assuming that they would be safe... Jerusalem Rio de Janeiro Most of Rio is fine. Just stay out of the PJs.
October 26, 201014 yr I notice a lot of people would move to Europe, vs. South America and Asia. I might like Hong Kong for a while. If I was single, I'd say Brazil, specifically that town where they find all the supermodels! But I stand by my original assessment of living in the Islay area of Scotland in an old drafty castle. The kids can run barefoot through the bog, and my wife can iron my kilts!
