Being a "Dead Head" you think Kasich would know what "cool" agriculture is....

Why is Kasich trying to piss off developers!?!  What is his action plan?  How about he levels with us and tells us EXACTLY what jobs he's hoping to create.

Kasich: Casino developers 'crying wolf'

Ohio Gov. John Kasich said Thursday casino developers were “crying wolf” by complaining about their financing woes as his administration hires consultants to determine his taxing policy of the gambling industry.

Medical marijuana = jobs.

Legal marijuana = more jobs.

Get with it, Kasich.

In all honesty, I had hoped the casinos would be taxed more than the amendment set them to be. But, as usual, Kasich is going about this entirely the wrong way.

I actually did not support the amendment, not because I'm against casinos, but because I felt there were too many specifics in there (monopolies, (low) tax values) that would better be set by a casino board or simple legislation (rather than a constitutional amendment). Now that the amendment has been passed, I accept the rules the way they were written.

What's up with a Republican trying to gouge more taxes from corporations, anyway? Are you Kasich defenders going to come back with the "he's doing exactly what he was elected to do" meme on this one, too?

I'd like to see wider highways with more lanes, along with continual effective anti-drug laws

I, personally, would like to see more dependence on foreign oil

I'd like to see public education funding reduced drastically!

I'd like to see more poverty concentrated in urban centers. That would really make Ohio cool.

OOoooh, we also need to eliminate Food stamps and unemployment benefits. All the poor people can starve to death.

Of course I would really like our governor to give his cabinet substantial raises while attacking teachers and police officers for high pay. Clearly that will remedy our state's financial woes.

The only thing Kasich would see in that Raleigh picture is the parking garage in the middleground and the giant bank in the background.

I'm actually glad to read Kasich is going after the casino's for more money.  The constitutional amendment was a bad deal in a number of ways, but primarily it was written by the casino people for the casino people.  Its always seemed very one-sided to me.  I could care less if the casinos never opened.  Cleveland is gaining momentum without them and they're going to bring as much harm as they bring good, might as well wring a few extra million out of them if we can.

The problem though is that this is a constitutional amendment and once again Kasich is attempting strong arm tactics that are at best against the intent of the voters and at worst illegal.  How is this any different than his work to politicize TRAC for example?

What are you talking about. He's brought substantial savings to the salaries from his administration

From the Columbus Dispatch this am

"Also yesterday, the Department of Administrative Services released salary information for Greg Moody, director of Kasich's Office of Health Transformation, and Amy McGee, director of former Gov. Ted Strickland's Executive Medicaid Management Administration.

Moody's base salary is $120,016 and McGee's salary was $110,011, lowering the overall savings for Kasich's staff and cabinet member salaries to about $28,500 from the previous administration's total."

Let the savings begin.

Cleveland Leader: John Kasich Defends Increasing Salaries of His Top Staff

"  S trickland's Chief of Staff John Haseley makes $122,990/year but Kasich's incoming Chief of Staff Beth Hansen is going to receive $170,000. This is more money than every cabinet member but 3, more than the Governor and Lieutenant Governor, more than the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, the Attorney General, Treasurer, Auditor, Speaker and Senate President!

For his long-time friend and the second half of his two man office at Lehman, John Kasich made up a brand new position: Special Assistant to the Governor. And a brand new salary as well: $145,000."

Ladies and Gents, I present to you Kasich's utopia:

When top level guys look down, they see only sh!theads;

When bottom level guys look up, they see only a#*holes...

That's great, Hts.  Made the cubicle wall.

Why do I feel Kasich is one of those guys who doesn't have the problem with the ethics of an employer getting a huge bonus for firing his staff.

He really is a loathsome person - war on teachers/cops/firefighters/middle class, needlessly jeopardizing our casinos while hiring TWO consulting groups for a total of $800/hr to do god knows what for as long as they want, foolishly eliminating the 3C project despite oil and gas's accelerating increases, being fairly undiplomatic in a world where that's just not acceptable, ties to Lehman brothers and Wall Street goons who have contributed to this global decline, hiring friends at ludicrous wages while chastising other public workers and unions, history of improper campaign solicitations.....jesus, the list just goes on and on.

At least we know he's a US citizen....wait DO we know that? Did anyone think to check his papers?? Someone contact the birthers. I only hope we're not too late

I think its a broader issue than just Kasich.  WTF is going on with the GOP today?  Between Palin and Trump and Bachmann and the rest, the moderates are getting completely pushed out.

Very true. The GOP has really been indoctrinated by the idiots - the ultra religious (though not really religious considering how vile so many are. Jesus himself would be ashamed with his so-called followers), the selfish (government spending is bad with the exception of MY entitlement handout), the delusional (suck up to the rich since they might be of that crowd someday. Oh sure.), the irrational (damn you liberals and Obama for destroying my 1950s perception of what America should be), the ignorant (wah, illegal immigration is destroying our country. Clearly we need more money spent at the border), the hypocrites (wah, where are all the American businesses. Oh well, off to Wall-Mart), and ultimately the stupid (Obama is a socialist, no wait, communist, no wait, elitist, no wait, fascist).

The good Republicans are too afraid to attack their own, and so we get this radically increasing rise of GOP-etards. It's a damn shame too:(

Its called an echo chamber, folks.

Sorry if this was already posted:  Ohioans need the right to remove John Kasich from office (petition)http://signon.org/sign/ohioans-need-the-right?source=s.fb&r_by=64592

I guess I just dont really get it... As much as I knew it would be a disaster if he was elected, why does everybody seem so surprised at his actions thus far..??  Is he not just following through on his platform that he ran under???  Isnt it the people that elected him that are to blame...  It doesnt seem like it was that difficult to see this coming based on doing a bit of homework on the guy.

I don't blame the people who voted for him as much as I do the people who didn't vote at all during this mid-term election.

And, no, I am not surprised.  I'm a little surprised by his arrogance, but not his actions/goals.  I don't care for his "get out of my way" approach.  He is still acting like a congressman, representing a distinct constituency, as opposed to being the Governor of the entire State and its whole population.

As long as this thread is completely off track, I'll go ahead & throw my trash on the pile.

TB, you've done a great job thus far, I think you have prejudged and conveniently categorized nearly every group out there that disagrees with you.  But that's ok, this is America, and we're allowed to do that sort of thing.

I don't think you'll find anyone sticking up for Kasich in this thread, but at this point, don't you have to wonder how Strickland LOST to him????

^Considering how much momentum the Repubs had going into the mid-terms, the high turnout from their base, the state of the economy, etc., etc., its amazing that Strickland nearly WON.

Kasich won because Americans blamed the Democrats for the banking collapse, the recession, auto-makers bankruptcy, and the "bailouts".  Yes, those were the Republicans fault and, no, it does not make sense.  Americans were against health care, too.

Can we get back on topic?

Yes I guess the people that didnt vote would be the ones to blame.  But the NATIONAL recession, blame the Democrat Governor that was in office during tactic was used in many states, and I know in the case of Maryland it didnt work (people saw through)....

I guess I just thought that with the threat of the rather drastic changes that would be in store and amount of obvious misinformation that was cast before the election that there wasnt more of a concerted effort against the election of Kasich.  That more Democrats, or others for that matter that dont like the type of tactics somebody like Kasich uses didnt come out against.

The problem isn't Kasich's platform -- horrible and predictable as it is. The problem is his slash-and-burn approach and his unwillingness to play by the rules. He wants to overrule a constitutional amendment because he disagrees with it. He changes the ODOT project-ranking mechanism when he doesn't like its recommendations. He calls police officers idiots and then tries to remove their collective-bargaining rights by saying it is necessary to cutting budgets when that is a lie. He says he wants to make agriculture "cool" as he guts the agriculture department's sustainable-agriculture and local-food initiatives. I could go on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on, and he's only been in office 100 days.

He wouldn't have won without significant moderate support, and he won't have that next time.

I was, frankly, confused as to why he had so much moderate support in *this* go-round.

I totally agree.  It was plenty clear during the campaign that Strickland is much more moderate and centrist than Kasich was ever going to be.

The voting climate at the time was "Anyone But a Democrat," even for moderates.

The voting climate at the time was "Anyone But a Democrat," even for moderates.

Exactly.  Just like in 2008 it was "Anyone but republicans".

OK, the governor can fly between Ohio cities. But how do the rest of us travel between Ohio cities when we have very little rail and bus transportation left between Ohio's cities?

Kasich state plane use off to fast pace

Governor defends his air travel costs, citing scheduling needs.

By Laura A. Bischoff, Columbus Bureau

Updated 6:38 PM Saturday, April 16, 2011

COLUMBUS — Gov. John Kasich’s entourage for a 144-mile trip from Columbus to Cleveland last month was so large his office used two state-owned planes to transport the group, costing taxpayers $2,199.50.

In his first 81 days in office, the Republican Kasich used the Hawker-Beechcraft King Air planes for 16 in-state trips and four out-of-state treks at a total cost of $31,400. By comparison, former Democratic Gov. Ted Strickland spent $31,849 on plane travel during his first 13 months in office.

“There is no doubt about it: I can’t get to all these places if I’m not able to fly,” Kasich said on Friday.

70% disapproval as of now - http://www.cleveland.com/open/index.ssf/2011/04/whats_your_assessment_of_gov_j.html

Given, this is a NEO focused poll, but just judging from the comments sections, there are plenty of Kasich supporters who read cleveland.com.  Point being, this is not the equivalent of some Fox viewer poll which shows that 95% of Americans disagree with Obama's decision to [fill in the blank].

I saw Taft ride a limo to Athens.  I doubt that a plane really makes any sense in-state other than situations where he might have a morning meeting in Cleveland and an afternoon meeting in Cincinnati.

He said what he was going to do before the election, now I just hope he follows through.  That's the reason he won the election.

No, he won the election because voters were upset with the economic situation and wanted to throw people out of office. It is clear now that Ohio voters have buyer's remorse after seeing what exactly Kasich stands for. I say this because his approval rating stands around 25% now.

^He, and many other mid-term candidates, won because people who employ scare tactics are incredibly successful campaign managers.

Brain structure differs in liberals, conservatives: study

WASHINGTON — Everyone knows that liberals and conservatives butt heads when it comes to world views, but scientists have now shown that their brains are actually built differently.

Liberals have more gray matter in a part of the brain associated with understanding complexity, while the conservative brain is bigger in the section related to processing fear, said the study on Thursday in Current Biology.
