November 23, 201014 yr Even thought i bitched about no Youngstown i still picked other because i don't consider Cortland a suburb of Youngstown or any other city really. I suppose Cortland could be a suburb of Warren, but then Niles and Girard would have to be suburbs of Warren too and i don't think they are (shoot, Girard could be a suburb of Youngstown when i think about it). This is getting to0 confusing! lol
November 23, 201014 yr Cincinnati neighborhood when I'm home, but Los Angeles for the vast majority of the year so I picked other.
November 23, 201014 yr Columbus, Toledo, etc. are so underrepresented on the board - I guess UO needs a brand awareness marketing campaign outside the 2 C's: 8)
November 23, 201014 yr I live Columbus, off of Thurman Ave. on the Southside. That should explain my rant about the non-stop helicopters hovering my house. The street the runs parallel, south, is called Frebis but I always call it Freebase. It just feels right.

It'll probably be in a week or so.
December 5, 201014 yr I live in Columbus and practically straddle the line between the King Lincoln District and Downtown. My office is Downtown as well, which is pretty much my second home and stomping grounds. Â The King Lincoln District has treated us very well though. Extremely close to Downtown with easy accessibility to everything, extremely affordable historic homes (that we just had appraised for refinancing and the value has gone up 60% in 3 years with minimal work on it so far) and a promising future.
December 5, 201014 yr I have a 6000 sq. ft. penthouse in SoHo. I win. (clearly).  I knew this girl....or shall I say I was introduced to this girl who owned a whole apartment building near SoHo. She was absolutely crazy. The person we were staying with had a family emergency with the death of her grandmother so she hooked us up with her friend who owned this building. The whole apartment building was empty and was entirely under renovation. So we were each sleeping in these half complete apartments with only the stud walls up. In the middle of the night this girl would wake up screaming about something or other, and it would just echo throughout the whole place. Daytime she would just start up these weird conversations. At the end of our stay she was like "Oh, I want some of those photos if you don't mind emailing. If you don't, I'll kill you." We laughed and she said again, "No, really, I seriously will." I was so glad we left.

December 5, 201014 yr I would have called an exorcist, dipped out of there and stayed at a 2 star LaQuinta in Stamford, Conn.
December 5, 201014 yr went from downtown Cleveland to downtown San Diego. Cleveland will always have a special place though, and I will keep in the loop since I have property there. How many others are from So. Cal? I know there are a few.

December 6, 201014 yr went from downtown Cleveland to downtown San Diego. Cleveland will always have a special place though, and I will keep in the loop since I have property there. How many others are from So. Cal? I know there are a few. Â I'm an Ohio native, but lived in San Diego prior to my current city (Chicago). San Diego has a pretty good downtown and I would have no problems living there. I actually did live in SD's Little Italy (not very authentic but a cool section of downtown none the less) briefly when I was out there, but the rest of the time I lived in the Pacific Beach/Crown Point area. I miss the fish tacos!

December 7, 201014 yr I'm much too hip for the West Side anyways 8-). Silverlake and Los Feliz are more my style, although I would love to live in Venice eventually.
December 7, 201014 yr Well, I put Downtown Akron on the map, but I sadly don't expect company here--there simply aren't even all that many residences (especially discounting student residences) in Downtown Akron.

December 8, 201014 yr Rich people.  I'm as poor as I've ever been and I've never been happier/more stable for some reason. The more you have, the more you have to lose I suppose.  I don't understand this rival with east and west Cleveland. :wtf: You never see anyone in Columbus downgrade another side of town. I don't even recall that many people in Cincinnati hating on the westside (besides me) when they live on another side of town. The worst you'd hear is that there's nothing to do on the west side but everyone already knows that.
December 8, 201014 yr ^Oh no way...the east side/west side split in Cincinnati is really drastic. (MTS and I were talking about LA though) Â Look at this editorial cartoon from Jim Borgman...pretty much sums up the East Side West side divide in Cincy. Â

December 8, 201014 yr There's a drastic divide between the east and west side of Cincinnati but there isn't much animosity. People VERY rarely even travel from one side to the other, to know about it. Â I work in Hilliard and I noticed that the relationship between suburban Hilliard and the west side in Columbus pretty much mirrors that of Cincinnati's west side city vs. suburb (except Hilliard is GIANT). It's really strange. Basically, people in Hilliard are the kind of people who sit in their house eating up pop culture that's fed to them in the form of video games, tv, internet, Droids, Target and new strains of marijuana. They're reclusive and do a surprising amount of drugs (just like suburban westsiders in Cincinnati.) They're happy about where they live because it's low crime and there's no real reason anymore to interact with people. You don't need spontaneous stimulation when you're upper-middle class and live in the suburbs with all of your gadgets. They trash on The Bottoms and Hilltop even though a large number of them either grew up in the city or their parents did and still have strong ties to it. To me, it's disgusting. Â I lived in Cincinnati for a long time. I had close friends that lived in Kenwood, Clifton, Price Hill, Mt. Healthy, Mariemont, Terrace Park, Indian Hill, Bridgetown, Delhi, Hyde Park and Greene Township. All over, basically. I honestly have never heard any of them say anything negative about the other sides of town. The only thing I've heard negative from my friends is that "there's nothing to do on the west side" but that was usually from my friends on the west side. A few of my friends' parents were adamant about letting their prescious and pure children hang out with me in Price Hill because "Price Kill" is "dangerous". Some older people tend to view the west side as dangerous and don't put it in perspective and look at how bad the north side of the city is, before you get to the suburbs.
December 8, 201014 yr ^Yeah that's true, I don't think there is a lot of animosity, just general lack of knowledge about each place. I have honestly only been to the west side a couple of times, and have no clue how to get around or what roads lead where. You could drop me basically anywhere on the east side and I would know three ways how to get where I'm going. I hear west siders say the same thing about the east side. I'm good as far west as Northside, College Hill, and North College Hill, but anything west of that is a mystery to me.  There is a little animosity with some west siders, though. A lot of them consider themselves to be the 'real' Cincinnatians, and the east side is viewed as pretentious and superficial. Conversely, there are a lot of east siders who view the west side as being trashy or at least blue collar, and not welcoming of others. I

December 8, 201014 yr David I loved your discription of Hillard. That pretty much describes my friends from college who live their to a T. Â W vs E in Cleveland? Is there still a rivalry? Didn't that end when Crocker Park opened and both sides of town had an "authentic" lifestyle center to spend their money at? I am with Mayday on this, as a non-native, get over yourselves. Just because your daily needs of eat, sleep, and work don't take you to the otherside of the city doesn't mean your side is any better or the other side is any worse. Â Â Â

December 8, 201014 yr What is the stereotype of a typical east sider or west sider in Cleveland? Â Since you asked! Â
December 9, 201014 yr Ok, that's kind of what I assumed. Cincinnati's is pretty much the same thing, although I think it's less about pure wealth, and more about attitudes of the citizens. There are rich neighborhoods on the west side, and there are poor areas on the east side, but generally speaking, the bulk of the nice shopping and restaurants are on the east side.  I once heard someone say that historically, the west side of cities were the nicer ones because winds generally blow from west to east, and smells and pollution would be then travel east. Ohio seems to sort of buck this trend (if it actually is a trend). Interesting stuff. In Cincinnati, I think there is a psychological thing about being further west means you're closer to, or in Indiana, while the east is all Ohio. Although, if you go far enough east you're in Appalachia, so I don't know if that's any better...
December 9, 201014 yr I always use the comparison that the eastsiders use white linen tablecloths, while west siders use the red and white checkered plastic ones :-P
