Posted November 27, 201014 yr I'm just curious. I know about Bounce and Twist, but those places seem to cater more to men. I'm looking for a more laid back, lesbian themed place. Any suggestions?
November 27, 201014 yr It looks like The Nickel would have been what you were looking for, but may be closed. Well, just a couple of hours away are a couple of dive lesbian bars (Slammers and Blazer's) and a dance club (Wall Street) in the Downtown and Short North area. All lesbian-oriented establishments cater to the more stereotypical/mainstream butch scene (polos, short hair, etc) and a couple have since closed (Liquid and East Village in the Short North). Clintonville is known as the lesbian hood, but there are only a handful of bars (literally), none of which cater specifically to lesbians, but with the unusually high lesbian population here, I'm sure some frequent the local joints which tend to be no-frills bars and pubs. Also, as is the case with gay men you can be sure to see lesbians at any given bar in the Short North whether it caters to gay men or not.
November 27, 201014 yr The Nickel is definitely closed! Tried to go there a few weeks ago and it was totally shut down. The only other place that I found was called Paradise Inn. It didn't look too good, so I didn't go in. But I might just have to try it.
November 27, 201014 yr I believe that Zeleznik's in Old Brooklyn re-opened as a lesbian bar a while back.
November 27, 201014 yr Hush on Lorain and West 117th I belive has a lesbian night - maybe Wednesday - I cannot remember off the top of my head.
November 27, 201014 yr ^I'd avoid Hush for a multitude of reasons. Emmie, your best bet might be to check out the WH2 (Womens Happy Hour) events - I believe they have a Facebook page. It's basically a monthly "takeover" event. clevelandskyscrapers.com Cleveland Skyscrapers on Instagram
November 28, 201014 yr The Nickel closed? Boo. There used to be a place in Brookpark called the kitty cat club or something? I used to go there for lesbian karaoke, not sure if it's still there. I think it was next to a straight biker bar?
November 29, 201014 yr Stay away from The Hawk on Detroit Avenue near West 110th unless leather and an ass-kicking is your thing. "In the souls of the people the grapes of wrath are filling and growing heavy, growing heavy for the vintage." -- John Steinbeck
November 29, 201014 yr Stay away from The Hawk on Detroit Avenue near West 110th unless leather and an ass-kicking is your thing. How near to West 110th?

November 29, 201014 yr From the way you describe it, I can't help but picutre a lesbian version of "The Blue Oyster" from Police Academy -
November 29, 201014 yr When I visited it in the late 90s, it wasn't too much different. "In the souls of the people the grapes of wrath are filling and growing heavy, growing heavy for the vintage." -- John Steinbeck
November 30, 201014 yr Oh pishposh, *I've* been to the Hawk plenty of times and half of those leather queens are more nelly than me! clevelandskyscrapers.com Cleveland Skyscrapers on Instagram

November 30, 201014 yr I believe that Zeleznik's in Old Brooklyn re-opened as a lesbian bar a while back. Lady Z's (i.e. Zeleznik's) had a year to a year-and-a-half run, but couldn't survive and closed down. It reopened as Club Generations, an African-American hangout. One of my best friends went in there for a co-worker's birthday, and the barmaids would not serve her because she was white (and they explicitly stated that to her in a very gruff, very racially charged manner). The owner said he would take care of her, but wanted to charge her $10 for a shot of Jim Beam. I don't advise anyone to go there and support them. I noticed that the Nickel was closed a few weeks ago. Not sure why.
November 30, 201014 yr This is soooo disappointing to me! I want to check out the chick scene in my new hood!

November 30, 201014 yr Apparently, lesbian bars and vegan restaurants are Cleveland's Achilles' heel. Now which UOer is going to open a lesbian bar with a vegan kitchen? It's win-win.
December 1, 201014 yr A racist lesbian bar? Now I've heard everything. Try walking into a place for the first time and within two minutes someone yells (at the top of their lungs, loud enough for everyone in the place to do a doubletake) "WHO BROUGHT THE WHITE B!TCH?!?!?". Oh, and realizing that the white b!tch they're referencing is *you* as the vast majority of the clientele is black. Yeah, Cleveland's gay scene is just a hoot. clevelandskyscrapers.com Cleveland Skyscrapers on Instagram
December 1, 201014 yr A racist lesbian bar? Now I've heard everything. No. The bar went from steelworker bar > lesbian bar > black bar. It had three different clientele at three distinctive times. The same family has owned Zeleznik's for the last 95+ years, and the current owners live above it (last I heard). They operated it when it was a steelworker bar, but couldn't hang on and have been leasing it out to bar operators.
