November 28, 200816 yr Buckeyes take two major awards Laurinaitis, Pryor are top defensive, freshman honorees Tuesday, November 25, 2008 By Ken Gordon, The Columbus Dispatch The Big Ten honored Ohio State players young and old last night, as senior linebacker James Laurinaitis won defensive player of the year and quarterback Terrelle Pryor was named freshman of the year. It was Laurinaitis' second straight player of the year honor. http://www.dispatch.com/live/content/sports/stories/2008/11/25/osufb25.ART_ART_11-25-08_C1_3AC0F0J.html?sid=101
December 8, 200816 yr The Buckeyes will face Texas in the Fiesta Bowl. Tostitos Fiesta Bowl Jan. 5, 8 p.m. (FOX) Glendale, AZ Texas vs. Ohio State
December 9, 200816 yr Have fun with Texas...that's probably the least desirable team to be playing against outside of the National Championship game. If OSU can pull off a victory over the Longhorns then some serious credit is due.
December 9, 200816 yr Looks like the Rose Bowl will be the best game You really think that? I think its unfair USC has homefield advantage. If Columbus were in a warmer climate wouldn't it be cool to host a bowl and/or play in that bowl? The Buckeye Bowl Oh well, traveling is all part of the experience.
December 9, 200816 yr ^^^^^^^ I think that the National Championship will be the best to watch. Its too bad Boise State didn;t play Utah. That would've been an amazing game!
December 10, 200816 yr Take away the automatic bids given to the ACC and Big East. Of course, while you are at it, take away PAC-10's bid---Outside of USC, PAC10 is worse than many non-BCS conferences Yeah the current BCS shortchanges the non-BCS conferences, but it is what it is. Since the conference alignments define the BCS, the automatic bids don't get under my skin as much. What should be frustrating to Boise State is the selection of tOSU over them, since that was the option given the current rules of the BCS. (Down year for BEast Football -- but who's to say it won't be more highly rated in a few years? -- what's hurting the conf ranking now is parity -- the teams in the conference are more even, there is no overall powerhouse).
December 10, 200816 yr I'm even going to go as far as saying Boise State deserves to be there before Ohio State (but we all know this won't happen due to no conference championship in the Big Ten, and OSU's popularity). I mean, lord, Boise State beat f$&king Oklahoma two years ago, AND are undefeated this year, but they won't get a bid before Ohio State, or whatever joke wins the Big East and ACC?! Yeah, that's fair. This is an extremely corrupt, unfair system. Oh well, at least Utah is for sure getting a spot. They shouldn't be alone though. If Boise State beats Fesno State next week, they certainly belong in a BCS bowl. If Ball State beats Western Michigan and Buffalo in the championship to take to the MAC and go undefeated, I'd argue for them too. Take away the automatic bids given to the ACC and Big East. Mistake me if I'm wrong but didn't Oklahoma lose to West Virginia (a Big East team) just last year? And they were able to do it a little easier then the almighty Boise State was. Plus, Ball State lost to an unranked Buffalo team which just so happens to be in the MAC East. You know, the side that C-Dawg said would get destroyed by the MAC West. Also, Boise State only defeated one ranked team this year and were only able to win by 5 points. I'm sorry but that hardly constitutes as a schedule worthy of getting an automatic BCS bid. And no I'm not saying that the Big East or the ACC are very tough conferences but please quit the whining about how unfair it is for the non-BCS teams. If it bothers the schools that much then perhaps they should join a conference that does get an automatic bid.
December 10, 200816 yr They should move Boise State to the PAC-10. Seriously though, year after year Boise State has successful seasons. This could give USC a REAL opponent in the PAC-10. I agree with C-Dawg Njaim. Undefeated Boise State should be ranked ahead a 2 loss OSU team. Thats just unfair to Boise State. In my rankings Utah is 1 and Boise State is 2 because they have not slipped like all the BCS teams have this year. It should be Utah vs. Boise State in a BCS bowl and not 2 loss OSU vs. Texas. Texas is gonna kill us and everyone knows it. Alabama is gonna kill Utah and everyone knows it. The point is, the BCS is unfair and needs reconstructed. I WANT PLAYOFFS!
December 10, 200816 yr Boise and Utah don't play anyone... how should they be ranked higher than the some of the team below them when they have a much weaker S.O.S.
December 11, 200816 yr Yeah... Boise played #17 Oregon (W) OSU- #1 USC (L), #18 Wisc. (W), #20 MSU (W), #3 Penn State (W), #24 Northwestern (W) Ball State- Played no ranked teams Cincy- #4 OK (L), #23 USF (W), #25 WVU (W), #20 Pitt (W)
December 11, 200816 yr Boise and Utah don't play anyone... how should they be ranked higher than the some of the team below them when they have a much weaker S.O.S. I was dazed at your bad grammar for a moment, but then I realized your point. So far this season Boise State has proven that it can win every badly scheduled game thrown at them. But who's to say they cannot win a bowl game over an at-large school like they did a few years ago vs. Oklahoma? How do you know that Boise State is gonna be blown out vs. a bigger school? They deserve a nice bowl game after their hard work and determination all season, not a 10-2 OSU team. The national championship game should be the battle against NCAA teams who have yet to be beaten, Utah vs. Boise St. Until the BCS stops screwing these unbeaten schools because they are puny, non BCS schools, I think they will lose many viewers. Imagine the t.v. ratings for Utah vs. Boise State. That would be an amazing game, but no, they must have the teams who have actually lost a game or two because their schedule was just tougher. Look, its not the toughness of the schedule, it's how you handle the schedule. In that case, Boise State and Utah deserve the championship. Thanks for the backup C-Dawg.
December 11, 200816 yr I agree that OSU should not be in a BCS game. Boise should have been in a BCS game. HOWEVER, to say that TV ratings would be higher for Boise/Utah game than the OSU/Texas game is an outright lie. Similarly, it isn't just about the TV ratings, it's also about the butts in seats ratings. Attendance for a Boise/Utah game would not be that great.
December 11, 200816 yr You got me on attendance but I think a lot of people would tune in for a game featuring 2 unbeaten teams rather than an under-rated Texas squad which should be in the championship vs. an over-rated OSU team with 2 losses. Sure the fan base is a lot bigger for the 2 schools but I think the whole nation would watch 2 unbeaten under-ranked teams battle it out for the national title.
December 11, 200816 yr ^ Even in a national title it wouldn't be close. Undefeated or not, neither Boise nor Utah has near the fan base that either OSU or Texas has and wouldn't draw near as many people to watch the game. However, I do agree that there should be a playoff system. This whole BCS thing is a joke.
December 11, 200816 yr We'll see. OSU has 3 first round draft picks. There's no shortage of talent in Columbus either. This game will be a lot closer than what people think. A healthy Beanie and a more experienced Pryor will make all the difference in the world. Plus Texas hasn't played a defense ranked in the top 65 all year. When was the last time Texas was held under 20points......Anyone want to guess?? Yup the the Buckeyes. Anyone who thinks UTAH has a chance is crazy!! They beat one of the worst teams in college football (UM) by 2 points. BAMA vs Utah = Georgia vs. Hawaii last year
December 11, 200816 yr Sorry... mis-type... should be #3 Penn State (L)... I think when I typed it I meant that Penn State won and transferred that to a W...
December 11, 200816 yr Texas is gonna prove that they deserved to play in the title game, unfortunately, versus us. There is also no good reason why an undefeated Boise State team can't play in a BCS bowl game. It should have been Utah vs. Boise State in at least a smaller BCS game. These two teams are almost identical. I've had it with the BCS.
December 11, 200816 yr A game between Utah and Boise state has the sex appeal of mini me and fat bastard getting it on. It doesn't appeal to the masses. I'm not saying the BCS is perfect, but what did we have before it?? You still had deserving teams being left out of big bowl games. This isn't even worth discussing until college football gets a PLAYOFF!!!
December 12, 200816 yr Politics need to stay out of sports. Seriously, how about we fix the country first, and then worry about sports. Let the BCS fix its own mess.
December 12, 200816 yr Having back to back top 5 recruiting classes is bad news for everyone playing OSU.
December 12, 200816 yr Doubt it. Not w/Pryor at the helm for at least 2 more years, check out Jamal Berry coming in from FLA. All the southern speed tress brought in w/this class and the 09 recruits is something OSU has never seen before. Its gonna be scary for all you buckeye bashers! Isn't there a forum on espn where you guys can go whack each other off to talking about the SEC, UTAH, and Boise st. This is an OSU thread.
December 13, 200816 yr As of today, OSU has 24 commits. Most of them look great. Next year will be a rebuilding year for us, and I think that in 2 years, we will be amazing.
December 22, 200816 yr How about the Buckeye basketball team??? They've just had back to back wins agains top-25 programs and are undefeated. These guys are really surprising me! The still-undefeated 13th-ranked basketball bucks are playing UNC tonight! Not the #1 UNC but UNC-Asheville. And UNC-Asheville will be without their 7'7" center, so OSU should stay undefeated.
January 5, 200916 yr Food for thought before tonight's Fiesta Bowl... January 6, 200916 yr Wow...Texas gets a crucial first down on fourth, then goes on to score a td with 16 seconds left to make the score 24-21. EDIT: Wow, what a loss.
January 6, 200916 yr Tough heartbreaker of a loss for the Buckeyes. One of those games that could've gone to either team. I'm proud of the great team effort the Bucks had in the second half against a Texas team that argueably should be playing in Thursday's BCS championship game.
January 6, 200916 yr Overall though, much more than I expected from the Buckeyes, and not an embarrassing loss by any means. You won't be hearing anyone talking sh!t about their post-season performance this year...not even me. ^I feel even better about the game now! :-D Of course everyone wants their team to win. But if you can't win - at least play a quality game that you have a chance to win. And win or lose, that was one entertaining fourth quarter and finish!
January 6, 200916 yr It was one of those games that could've gone either way and I wasn't impressed by Colt McCoy at all. Bradford deserved the Heisman (clearly) and it was an interesting game. If anything, Ohio State showed they did belong in a BCS bowl...unlike Penn State ;). If anything, Ohio State showed they did belong in a BCS bowl...unlike Penn State ;). USC is much better than Texas.
January 8, 200916 yr There's only one way to figure that out...let them play in a playoff. "You don't just walk into a bar and mix it up by calling a girl fat" - buildingcincinnati speaking about new forumers
January 9, 200916 yr "Ohio State RB Wells to enter NFL draft" Well that's too bad, but it's not that much of a surprise. Good luck to Beanie in the NFL. He's being projected as a solid first round pick. There's no question about his talent. His combo of power and speed translates perfectly to the pros. The only question is his durability. That might drop him down bit in the draft.

January 10, 200916 yr ohio may suck in big bowl games....but at least its still the cradle of coaches. hats off to former bgsu coach urban meyer.

However, if you're a first round lock for the pros with only one year of college left - I say go for it if you want to. Beyond general knowledge, the whole point of education is to better your job career and make more money. I'd say Beanie did just that! Also, Beanie has 10 siblings in his family. He really does have a family to feed!
January 16, 200916 yr http://www.dispatch.com/live/content/sports/stories/2009/01/15/osunfl.html?sid=101 NFL draft decisions Thursday, January 15, 2009 5:20 AM Updated: Thursday, January 15, 2009 12:27 PM An update on Ohio State juniors who had contemplated declaring for the NFL draft: Who's leaving Brian Hartline, WR Chris "Beanie" Wells, RB Donald Washington, CB Who's staying Jake Ballard, TE Kurt Coleman, S Jim Cordle, G Anderson Russell, S Ray Small, WR
January 16, 200916 yr Hartline has no business leaving. Not saying he is beholden to tOSU, just that he's not very good. Wells is a legit first-rounder, Washington is "meh." Those staying are wise to do so, and THANK GOD Kurt Coleman is one of them.
February 2, 200916 yr Another huge score for the bucks. This may go down as one of the best recruiting classes ever. Only time will tell. http://www.cleveland.com/sports/index.ssf/2009/02/glenville_lineman_marcus_hall.html
February 3, 200916 yr Ohio State football: 2009 recruiting class passes first-look test Sunday, February 1, 2009 - 3:49 AM By Tim May and Ken Gordon THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH Going into this last weekend before signing day, Ohio State had commitments from 25 prospects for a class that at least one recruiting service, Scout.com, rates No. 1 in the country. It could be enhanced if elite players such as offensive lineman Marcus Hall of Cleveland Glenville and receiver Marlon Brown of Memphis, Tenn., pick OSU in the coming days. http://www.dispatch.com/live/content/sports/stories/2009/02/01/osu_fb01.ART_ART_02-01-09_C1_0FCON89.html?sid=101
February 3, 200916 yr Wednesday is national signing day and the OSU recruiting class looks very strong. Above is the Dispatch analysis from Sunday...which was updated by the posting of offensive lineman Marcus Hall from Cleveland Glenville committing to Ohio State (thanks Clefan98).
