Boy, that *was* fun. Now I see why they do it. Maybe now we should appropriate some mid-60s frat rock song and sing it before every fourth quarter. On second thought...

Or perhaps insert some overrated "fight song" about hailing to Ohio State.

Dunno, just an idea.

Yeah, a song about hailing to Ohio State *would* be overrated.  Not unlike the football team.

I'm sure glad we could agree on that!

Girls, girls, relax...there will be plenty of time to do your OSU hate chants when Michigan is playing Rutgers or Notre Dame or some other Top 10 clown in the "No One Gives a Shit Bowl". Don't blow all your energy this week! :)

I like to watch paid athletes play football on Sundays...

I say Michigan wins 24-21.  With mass riots afterwards (which I really hope for the sake of the rest of the state, doesn't occur).  And the NCAA will grow some balls and require OSU to play the first home game next year in an empty Ohio Stadium.  With a ND-Michigan rematch in the Championship game.

^Seriously.

Newsflash OSU: this rivalry is a much bigger deal to you than it is to Michigan.

The Michigan/Michigan State rivalry on the other hand...

It makes sense.....

Michigan beats Michigan State

Ohio State beats Michigan

Everybody is happy! LMFAO!

Michigan fan logic...or lack thereof is amazing. ;)

I didn't realize the term "Victors" would mean "Overrated" but whatever way you'd like to spin it, sure.  Afterall, Michigan is notorious in "spinning" their education to make it seem like the populace is actually more educated than, say, Central Michigan.

That's almost too easy for me to trash UM but I see they put that English degree to work.

Oh, Michigan will be playing Notre Dame, but it definately will not be in the national championship.  Perhaps the Google.com Bowl?

ND-Michigan? Do you even follow NCAA football? I mean is this just a once a week thing with you guys, when you play your hated rival for the Big Ten crown....the Spartans? LMFAO! ND...what a joke!

I didn't even realize there were anti-OSU chants. I prefer to maintain a haughty disdain for OSU and its fans and not engage in such frivolities. It's one of the most cherished traditions of U of M. I don't even hate OSU, I just view them with contempt.

The UM-MSU rivalry has lost some of it's luster, but it's really one of the best intrastate rivalries, after Auburn-Alabama and, more recently, the assorted Florida teams.

Sorry, the but superiority complex that the University of Michigan has over (pretty much) other Big 10 schools is about as laughable as Ohio State fans during game day (or drunk).  Of course UM would have anti-OSU chants, as they are just as guilty of being moronic idiots as OSU fans.

It's better to be fool than to be a delusioned fool.

But...I do agree with the UM/MSU rivalry being one of the best intrastate rivalries.  But I do root for the Spartans always.

Jesus, what fantasy land are you living in. Lost some of it's luster? It looks like a '78 AMC Hornet after sitting out in the driveway for 20 years.

Yes I do follow college football.  ND is currently #5 in the BCS and plays Army next week and USC the week after that.  They win both those games, which is very possible with a weaker USC team this year, and that will knock USC which is currently #3 out of the picture.  Obviously somebody has to lose this weekend between scUM and tO$U and with it being this late into the season they will drop below ND in the rankings.  That leaves only Florida left in front of ND, which still has to play their big rivalry game with FSU and the SEC Championship game, let alone the fact that they haven't played particaularly well the last month or so.  So if ND wins out, which they should, then it is not out of the question for them to play in the NC.

p.s. in case you haven't figured out, I'm terribly biased toward ND.

BTW, Michigoon fans,

Ball State wants a rematch on their home turf. I heard Akron is now interested too.

Umm...don't worry about USC...they're bad...not as bad as ND. If Purdue can drop 28 on the Golden Domers....USC should have no trouble scoring 40. I'd love OSU-ND....Troy Smith could pass for 5 TD's and run for 5 TD's. And we'd still be at the two minute warning of the first half!

all long as the appereance of superiority is there, little timmy from orange county and jenny from long island will continue to load up their bmw's every fall whilst mommy and daddy piss away 30k for tuition.

Of note, I recall that michigan is close (within 5%?) to being a 50% instate/out of state institution. that's just hearsay from me from what i recall.

That's why I pray Michigan wins.  But if that's the case, then for the first and only time in my life I hope ND's defense pulls a luckeyes in the '02 NC and takes out Troy Smith's knee, he won't do jack in the NFL anyways, al la Willis McGahee.  And the offical could call a bogus pass interference in the end zone and retire the next day to the Bahamas.  Then maybe ND could hold off and win in OT.

As for the superiority complex, I was mainly just kidding. But it really is part of the tradition. I prefer to think of it as an inferiority complex to the Ivy League. And when it comes to looking down at their fellow Big 11ers, nobody does it like Northwestern.

I refuse to assent to the idea that Michigan fans are as big of idiots as OSU fans. I've seen both up close. Again, at least during my time there, it's not even close. But Ann Arbor did take action in the early 90s to curb some of the more outrageous behavior. I never saw a burned couch.

1908, that's a different story.

Regarding the anti-OSU chants. I'm just being honest -- I really have never heard them. Of course, I went to U-M during the Cooper years, so maybe there just wasn't much vitriol then. MSU was a bigger deal, at least on and around campus.

I always love unjustified arrogance from the OSU folk.  Good luck with that.

Of note, I recall that michigan is close (within 5%?) to being a 50% instate/out of state institution. that's just hearsay from me from what i recall.

Michigan's undergrad population is 2/3 in-state and 1/3 out-of-state.  The University would love to have more out-of-state students, but the Legislature mandates they have at least 2/3 in-state.  For grad programs, the out-of-staters are likely in a majority.

^^ Again, what a load of crap. When the "Thug Four/Five" were playing at the U of M and I was at OSU...current Michigan alumni I know were starting fights at bars back then over BASKETBALL. Get of your selective history high horse.

I'm assuming that was a response to me. Listen, I'm just telling you how I saw it. I'm not saying all Michigan students, alums, or fans are saints. Believe me, I'm thinking of a few friends and some of the trouble they caused in Happy Valley, South Bend, Madison, East Lansing, etc. I'm quite certain that some U-Mers act like jerks. Shit, I almost got into a fight with Papa Bear's son (Justin Fargas) and some freshman DB. But my experiences from 1996-2000 in Ann Arbor and lots of weekends in Columbus in the early 00s lead me to some conclusions.

Not all of this is positive for U-M by the way. Part of having a non-rabid fan base means that Michigan Stadium isn't intimidating in the least, and huge sections of seats are padded by hands.

Sorry, I can't respect any university or college that doesn't have a Geography program.

UM just hasn't been complete since 1983.

Of course you can go 10 miles east on US 12 to Yipslanti for that kind of study.

Sorry but faux-elitism is just as bad as "burning couches."  The latter is to be expected when you have 50,000 drunks.  The former isn't to be expected in a faux-Boulder-but-really-Jackson-with-Potbelly's.

Clearly, burning couches is worse. But to each his own I guess.

If having standards of behavior equals elitism, then I guess it's real elitism. But I was trying to deploy it tongue in cheek. Believe me, if you knew me then, nothing got on my nerves more. It's one of the worse characteristics of the community. Dude, I only wish A2 had a Potbelly's back then.

I'm not trying to denigrate OSU the school, just certain elements of OSU the fanbase, to the extent they can be differentiated. These elements have given the rest of the student body a black eye. I have nothing but respect for OSU as an institution, and I'm glad to learn here on this board of their efforts to improve the school.

danin, i must say, for you to look down on osu fans is basically the same thing as looking down on the entire state of ohio.  in reality, the two are almost inseperable.  yes, there are people in ohio who arent osu fans but there are A LOT, and I mean A LOT of osu fans in this state.  so why are you in this forum if you have such disdain for this state?

Michigan grads are insufferable prigs about their education. But I'll take that over being an insuffersable prig about your football team anyday.

No, read my sentence again. "Not all of this is positive..." As in, it's bad for Michigan. I'm trying to point to the differences in character of the fan bases, and giving a point to OSU.

There's sometimes a fine line between pride and arrogance. For football and academics.

As for me, I'm looking forward to a fine game between two of the nations best teams and schools. And hoping that win or lose, Ohioans make me proud.

Oh, I agree there is a fine line between the two.  But I suppose what I'm getting at is that if Ohio State fans are viewed as "arrogant" (this year), then what the world was Michigan viewed during the days of Desmond Howard and Charles Woodson?  Humble?!?!

There is a time and a place for everything.  Clearly, there isn't a lack of pride at OSU or UM (certainly shown in this thread).
