^toledoans are ohio's biggest tools in the osu-um thing. you are sure to always see the right hats on folks after the game is over - lol!

onward:

usc has notre dame and arch rival ucla yet to play. i dk if they can make it past that.

if they take a hit i think mich might still get the bid, esp since they beat the domers.

nd getting it would be, as always for anything, a colossal joke.

however, bright side is that w/ osu playing nd or um again, considering where many of their players often come from there will be a lot of ohioans in the game (i didnt look it up this year but traditionally ohio stocks those two teams quite a bit).

oh and ef any other contenders, who cares. heh.

This is for you C-Dawg.

For Michigan to be guaranteed a rematch with Ohio State, the following has to happen.

1. LSU to beat Arkansas (@ Little Rock), Friday.

2. USC to beat Notre Dame, Saturday.

3. Arkansas to beat Florida in the SEC Championship game (following Saturday)

4. UCLA to beat USC (following Saturday)

5. Boise State just needs to lose.

If all 4 outcomes come to fruition, Michigan will be the only 1 lose team left and by default would play, errr, lose again to Ohio State.

Of course if you don't feel comfortable hinging your hopes on UCLA upseting USC, Michigan fans can take their chances with a one loss Notre Dame team instead.

If not for that dumb ass pass interference call it would be 28-7.

You got your "luckeyes" call with that ridiculous 15-yard penalty against Michigan in the fourth quarter. Poor Troy Smith looked like a pussy. Had that not happened, Michigan probably would have won the game.

You won this battle, but now it's time for round 2!!!

Oh, and have fun cleaning up the after-riot mess in Bustown tomorrow. Now who really is likely to be the loser?- the city of Columbus.

Ohio State could've put this game away three times. First drive of the second half, Smith overthrew two passes and I believe Ginn dropped a very catchable ball. Then there was the muffed snap and then the muffed snap again. It's pretty telling when Ohio State can be -3 in the turnover department and still win. That's a rare feat in college or the pros. If this game is replayed, even on a neutral site and Ohio State dosen't give up the ball it won't be close, no matter what the media or Michigan fans say. :)

UM-OSU game costs police, fire $562,416 in overtime

November 29, 2006

ASSOCIATED PRESS

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- More than $500,000 was spent on police and fire overtime for the Ohio State-Michigan football game, according to reports released this week.

Rick Amweg, assistant university police chief, said the $562,416 was well spent considering the post-game celebration went smoother than past years.

BTW, for all you Wolverine fans.  If you still want a rematch in the desert, compared to a beat down by 30,000 Katrina refugees in Pasadena, you need to hope for the following to happen...

1. UCLA to upset USC

2. Arkansas to run wild over Florida

(Thus Michigan would be the only 1 lost team left, not counting Boise St, Rutgers, and Louisville)

Otherwise, I got 33 days worth of Southern fried Michigan smak for all you.

^^ So Kingfish...

You haven't been contacted by a State Farm agent this month?

State Farm is refusing my claim. Seems I was only insured against wind-driven bumpers.

Wow USC lost. so i guess it maybe be a repeat.

Or it could be Florida.

We'll see.

One could say Florida had thier chance but lost to auburn.

You cant penalize Michigan because the two best teams are in the Big 10.I would rather NOT see a rematch but anyone who looks at this objectivley knows Michgain is the 2nd best team in the nation..The Cpu will have UM 2nd but thats only 1/3 of the formula.  If voters vote on the basis of not wanting to see a rematch, thats when the problems will start.

oh i agre.  if i were a voter, i would vote michigan.  but as a fan, i want to see florida.  looks like this thread may have another 5 weeks of life left.

Michigan is the 2nd best team in the Big 10.

Florida is the Best team in the SEC.

So first tiebraker for these teams is conference title.  Florida is already a conference champion.  Michigan is not.

So the worst case scenario for the BCS has come forth.

The Rose Bowl is now the Loser Bowl (USC-Michigan)

The Sugar Bowl now has a deflated home team fan base (LSU, thinking they were going to the Rose Bowl before yesterday)

and the BCS Championship game should be a rout.  Congrats Jim Tressel and the Ohio State Buckeyes on their 2006 National Title.

lets discuss.  Sooooo michigan probably got screwed but as an osu fan, I am glad to be playing florida.  just by watching them yesterday against arkansas, I know osu is better. florida has had 6 wins under a seven point margin but then again so did the 2002 osu team at this point.  should be a fun game in 30 DAMN DAYS!

osu 38, gators 13

Michigan got screwed. Go Bucks!

Well, regardless, whoever was going to get "screwed."  Florida had a legit case; Michigan had a legit case.  Only one person could go lose to Ohio State in the National Championship and it had to be Florida.

Hell, Michigan should be grateful.  Why lose twice to the same team?  Why not play USC and beat them in the Big 10/Pac-10 showdown?

As a Michigan fan:

A Rose Bowl season is not really a bad season

I am definately cheering for the Bucks to dominate the Gators for because I have Big Ten Pride and becuase if that happens, everybody will be saying "what if michigan would have played...?"

I always root for Big 10 during bowl games as well.

yea i hope michigan wins as well.  i think the bucks will win 31-7.

Betcha that the BCS didn't want Michigan in the champ. game...what if Michigan eeked out a 3 point win on the neutral site --- no consensus number 1 then -- both same record and same head to head..

they're just avoiding a big controversy down the line

Yet you Buckeye fans wonder why the Michigan folks think you're assholes.

Can we keep the Michigan complaints to the OSU-Michigan thread?

As for Florida. Opertunistic defense, over-rated offense.

Don't turn the ball over and score often and Florida fans will start thinking this a is a repeat of the last time they were in Arizona (1995 Fiesta Bowl where they lost the National Championship to Univ of Nebraska, 55-21)

OSU 45, Florida 23

I thought your biggest rival was in East Lansing.

Or are only teams/school that you can beat up on your biggest rival.

OSU beat Michigan in Ann Arbor and Columbus.

Now stop crying for a rematch, since you can't stand us anyways.  :-P

I could never understand why all Big 11 schools have to root for each other?

As for the game, I'm following with the trends of the last few years, with the exception of the '05 USC team.  The underdog will win.  Gators win 27-24.  tOSU will find out what Miami did in '03.

but as much as I hate it, I still think tOSu will prolly win.

A few predictions:

OSU 41  Florida 14

I will be drunk by the second quarter.

Halftime show will be boring.

I will eat too many nachos in stupid loyalty to Tostitos.

Michigan fans will bitch and moan about how they would have beat the Buckeyes if they were playing for the title.

My friend Pat will the next day call any sports talk radio show and (in a hung over fashion) gloat.

You are representing your CONFERENCE during bowl games, so think of it as "Big 10 versus SEC, Pac10, etc."  You don't want your CONFERENCE to look weak and powerless against the WAC, do you?!?!

yeah...that would be wack!

sorry, I just have to post this snippet:

Gators apparently have short-term memories

It's the story, in all its glory, of Florida's 1996 national championship.

It's the story of how the Gators lost their final regular-season game -- to archrival Florida State, no less, and by three points, no less, and on the road, no less -- but were granted a rematch in the Sugar Bowl during the days of the old Bowl Alliance, a forerunner of the Bowl Championship Series. This time the Gators won -- a 52-20 blowout -- and were voted the consensus champion.

BCS Determines No Team Worthy Of Facing Ohio State In Championship Game

December 7, 2006 | Issue 42•49

COLUMBUS, OH—In what many BCS officials are citing as "proof that their flawless system indeed works," no Division 1-A college football team was found to possess the sheer excellence required to face Ohio State, the No. 1 ranked team since the season began, in this year's BCS Championship game.

"The main job of the BCS is to place the best football players in the nation in a single game in order to decide the national champion," said BCS chairman Mike Coleman. "This year, our computer took hours to process the polls' relevant data—by which I mean the opinions of the nation's finest sportscasters, sports-radio hosts, coaches, color commentators, and ESPN The Magazine contributors—and determined that no championship game is necessary. No team in America deserves to even step on the same field as Ohio State, let alone actually play in a game against them."

"It's good to know that, after the Harris and the USA Today polls carefully and painstakingly take care of the fallible, emotional, potentially biased human element of the ranking through old-fashioned voting, the BCS then takes that human element and subjects it to its own infallible rigid mathematical formulas," Coleman continued. "It's a confidence-inspiring system that has never failed us before."

"Although I'll be the first to admit that previous years have usually featured some sort of game," Coleman added.

According to Coleman, the University of Florida's lackluster running game and one-loss season, USC's "abominable" offense and two losses, and Michigan having already lost to Ohio State 42-39 seemed to be the determining factors in the BCS's decision. Coleman also said that Ohio State clearly being the most popular and exciting team in college football didn't hurt. However, Coleman insisted on adamantly stating for the record that the BCS is not a popularity contest.

"I think this year more than any other year proves that the BCS is working," ESPN College GameDay anchor Lee Corso said during a live broadcast from Ohio State's campus. "The system does an excellent job taking into consideration things that poll voters don't even think about: strength of schedule, whether or not the team won their conference, total distance the teams' fans are willing to travel for bowl games, average amount spent on souvenirs by alumni, and grade point average. After all those things, it's Ohio State, baby. And only Ohio State."

Corso then put on the costume head of Ohio State mascot Brutus Buckeye and was met with cheers from thousands of students.

"My guys were disappointed at first, but they eventually understood," said Michigan coach Lloyd Carr. "We had our chance against Ohio State and we blew it, and I guess a rematch would be boring. But can you blame us for thinking we had a chance? Sure, Troy Smith is easily the best player ever, and that defense, well, quite frankly, I'd be afraid for our guys' safety if we had to go up against that defense again, but our fans are rabidly single-minded and a lot of them have poll votes."

"I wish Bo Schembechler had lived to see this," Carr added. "He had a vote in the poll, you know."

Florida Gators head coach Urban Meyer agreed with Carr, saying that even if his team had been offered a chance to play Ohio State, he may not have taken it.

"We don't deserve to play Ohio State. Period," Meyer said, adding that though Florida had a tough schedule, being the SEC champion was not the same thing as being Ohio State. "Every coach that I know voted for Ohio State in the coaches' poll, or at least had them second after their own team. In any case, I can certainly see why no one who votes in the BCS wants the national championship to be decided by a mere football game."

All coaches interviewed supported Meyer's claim, with the notable exception of Notre Dame head coach Charlie Weis, who said that despite his team's two losses, weak schedule, and unremarkable defense, he still felt in his heart that Notre Dame deserved a chance at the title—a feeling that, according to a BCS official who wished to remain anonymous, was not completely overruled.

"First of all, I should note that although Notre Dame is an independent, and a highly regarded independent at that, it does not have its own special set of rules as far as determining its football team's rankings," the official said. "Instead, we use a special set of mathematical algorithms to determine its football team's rankings, which the BCS specifically determines only after ranking all the other teams. And though I shouldn't say this, we—er, the computer—would have dearly loved to have seen Notre Dame in the championship."

The Fox network has announced that in place of the game on January 8, it will broadcast four hours of Buckeye players working out in preparation for the 2007 NFL draft.

Same here. In a true Toledo split-allegiance fashion, I generally root for Ohio State when it doesn't hurt Michigan.

Also, a lot of the reason this is happening (and Michigan did indeed get screwed) is because the bowls are biased to have out-of-conference teams play each other. Those types of games generally garner higher television ratings (more money), and the bowls are really about money before anything else. You generally attract a wider viewer audience when the teams are further apart.

However, if Ohio State were playing Michigan again, I think the ratings would have been fantastic given the precedent of such a game. I could be wrong on that (a lot of the West and South doesn't give a shit about the Big Ten), but it's something I question...

Florida is not that good this year and I expect OSU to slaughter them. It won't be nearly as good a game as Michigan-OSU turned out to be, but alas....Tressel gets another championship.

Michigan fans will bitch and moan about how they would have beat the Buckeyes if they were playing for the title.

I wouldn't go as far as to say we'd surely beat Ohio State, but I think it would have been a MUCH better game than OSU-Florida (hell, OSU-USC would have been assloads more interesting). An OSU-Michigan rematch would have been nothing short of epic. It could have quite possibly gone down as the best football game in history...

Instead, we're getting....yawn...an embarrassing pizza party from Florida...

Dude....

You need to move to Rhode Island.

I'm just a casual college football fan and the BCS/Bowl system is why. Can a playoff system be that terrible? What are the OSU and Michigan players doing for nearly 6 weeks? Getting educated, curing cancer, Christmas shopping. Would playing 2 or 3 more games be so terrible? I can see to office pools forming already . . .
