November 14, 200618 yr Ohio State parties too hard the night before, oversleeps, forfeits. Michigan steals their girlfriends.
November 14, 200618 yr per a UofM distributed email: We know that it can be uncomfortable being in an opposing team's environment, especially when the stakes are so high. We would like to offer a few suggestions in order to help you stay safe and have a positive experience this weekend: --Try carpooling to the game; if possible, drive a car with non- Michigan license plates. --Keep your Michigan gear to a minimum, or wait until you are inside the stadium to display it. --Stay with a group. --Stay low-key; don't draw unnecessary attention to yourself. --If verbally harrassed by opposing fans, don't take the bait. --Avoid High Street in Columbus. I think those are some legit suggetions. Those OSU fans in Columbus are goons. Its really embarrassing (and I am an OSU fan).
November 14, 200618 yr ^Seriously. Newsflash OSU: this rivalry is a much bigger deal to you than it is to Michigan. The Michigan/Michigan State rivalry on the other hand...
November 14, 200618 yr ^I never understood the MSU-UM rivalry. MSU isn't competitive. It ain't hard to figure out. UM students have siblings and high school friends who go to State, and vice-versa. Ohio State parties too hard the night before, oversleeps, forfeits. Michigan steals their girlfriends. There IS something to be said about girls with no teeth.
November 14, 200618 yr ^They hate Ohio State much more than Michigan. Why? We beat them more. Actually, you don't... OSU and PSU basically trade off every year (home team almost always wins)... we've lost to Michigan like 7 times in a row (many of them aided by blatently biased officiated... such as the phantom extra second at the end of the game last year that ruined PSU's perfect season). We hate Michigan too... but we really hate OSU due to proximity (and perhaps the Big 33 Game) and the fact that their program is pretty much the anti-PSU when it comes to graduation rates and ethics (like the whole Maurice Clarett scandal). And now that I live in Ohio... I hate OSU all the more! Interestly, when I was at BW3's in Wooster watching the PSU-Michigan game last year... OSU partisans erupted with cheers when Michigan won... which shocked me... I guess OSU fans were still bitter about the bruising defeat PSU handed them the week before.
November 14, 200618 yr The war between Michigan and Ohio By Tom Jones / special to The Detroit News It was a "war" that both Ohio and Michigan could rightfully claim they won, a one-casualty conflict in which the only blood drawn came from a knife thrust into the leg of a Michigan sheriff. It was the Toledo War, a hotly contentious boundary dispute when it began in April, 1835, but now a source of amusement to many whose only knowledge of the war is from flawed accounts of the event. Most ask why anyone would fight Ohio over Toledo -- especially since Michigan got the Upper Peninsula as consolation for losing the argument. The late Tom Jones, former director of the Historical Society of Michigan, called that a "common, hindsight reaction built on a misconception. It ignores a couple of points." November 14, 200618 yr Evergrey, OSU is in the middle of the pack with graduation rates. If you want to see bad graduation rates, Texas, is the culprit (40% grad rate--how embarrassing!). And, how do you blame OSU for all that Clarrett has done? OSU gets an unnecessary bad rap for Maurice.
November 14, 200618 yr And, how do you blame OSU for all that Clarrett has done? OSU gets an unnecessary bad rap for Maurice. that's right, lets blame warren!
November 14, 200618 yr And, how do you blame OSU for all that Clarrett has done? OSU gets an unnecessary bad rap for Maurice. that's right, lets blame warren! Blame Maurice. That guy threw away a lot of talent. I'm glad that OSU cut ties with the guy before his sophomore season got underway. He's become so whacked out that he's becoming a fictional character in my mind.
November 14, 200618 yr I will say that Tressel has done a good job cleaning up the program and instilling some sense of respect among his players--something sorely lacking under the Cooper and Bruce regimes.
November 14, 200618 yr Interestly, when I was at BW3's in Wooster watching the PSU-Michigan game last year... OSU partisans erupted with cheers when Michigan won... which shocked me... I guess OSU fans were still bitter about the bruising defeat PSU handed them the week before. Dumb fans, that's all. It's like the morons in Cleveland who were rooting for the Yankees to beat Atlanta in the 1996 World Series, just because they took the Tribe in six in the 1995 series. Absolute ignorance...
November 14, 200618 yr The most predictable poll since 2005's "Is light rail is awesome?" [yes or no] LOL!!!!

It's like the morons in Cleveland who were rooting for the Yankees to beat Atlanta in the 1996 World Series, just because they took the Tribe in six in the 1995 series. Absolute ignorance... ?? Is that the worst example of fan behavior that you can think of?
November 14, 200618 yr Er...that had nothing to do with fan behavior. I was talking about fans who obviously know nothing of the history of a team...an OSU fan who would root for Michigan for anything is like an Indians fan who would root for the Yankees for anything - it's someone who doesn't know a thing about the team and it's history. Regarding bad fan behavior, I'm against it. Don't have much else to add to that...
November 14, 200618 yr I've read that C-bus and the university are working to make sure that fan behavior isn't as appalling as it's been in years past. I'd be interested in hearing from anyone in Columbus about whether things are improving. Ann Arbor is nothing like Columbus on game day, and the reason is that the University and city put the brakes on boorish behavior in early to mid 90s. Hopefully they can clean things up a bit, because it's a real black eye for the city, the school, and its fans.
November 14, 200618 yr The most predictable poll since 2005's "Is light rail awesome?" [yes or no] Light rail loses. SUVs steal the engineers' girlfriends.

November 14, 200618 yr From the sound of it, Ufer remains a Wolverine legend By Gene Wojciechowski ESPN.com So I walked into the boss's office the other day and there he was, this giant of the dot-com industry ... this man who, with a raised eyebrow, can begin or end careers on a whim -- and he was giggling like he'd just cashed a $25 scratch-and-win. "You've got to hear these,'' he said excitedly, an open CD case on his 16th century Italian marble desk. "It's Bob Ufer!'' he said. And then he launched into a five-minute lecture about the guy, which was great, except for the fact that I'd never heard of him. Ufer? I thought a Ufer was a WWII German submarine, a scrubbing sponge for your back, or the baseball opposite of an 0-fer. I let my mind find a happy place as the boss droned on and on about Ufer this, Ufer that. I felt like George Costanza during a Steinbrenner rant. I was there, but not there. And then I was pooch-punted back into reality. "So I think this would make a really good column,'' I heard him say. "But I don't want you to think I'm telling you what to write.'' Wait, I'm sorry -- what did he just say? A column? On a Ufer? "I can't wait,'' I heard myself say. "I'll get right on it.'' So I became close, personal friends with Bob Ufer, who, by the way, has been dead for 25 years. And you know what? The boss was right: You've got to hear this guy. For 363 consecutive games, from 1945 to 1981, Ufer was the radio voice of University of Michigan football. He played in the same freshman backfield as Heisman winner-to-be Tom Harmon, switched a year later to track and field, became an All-America and world-class runner, started an insurance agency and, as I recently discovered, was as Michigan as the maize helmet wings. More at www.espn.com Ufer's memory lives on with ring tones, bobbleheads and a scholarship in his name at www.ufer.org.

I dont quite udnerstand what youre saying about OSU's graduation rate? Are you saying it is much lower than Penn States or something? OSU's grad rate: 71% (2006) PSU's grad rate: 81% (2004, couldnt find a more recent one) US NEWS & WORLD REPORT RANKINGS (doesn't have to do with grad rates only) OSU's rank: 57th overall PSU's rank: 47th overall So, uuhhh, while psu is a better school, it certainly doesnt blow osu out of the water. and the cool thing is osu is climbing fast while it seems psu has stayed the same. psu is a good school but so is osu.

November 14, 200618 yr The only thing I care about this weekend is finding a place to have a decent lunch that has: 1. Christmas Ale on tap. 2. No plans of showing the OSU/Michigan game. November 14, 200618 yr ^couldnt it/doesnt it have more to do with the fact that there are so damn many osu fans and less to do with osu people being more obnoxious. I mean its quite obvious that the larger the number of people, the more the mob mentality is likely to take over.

I mean its quite obvious that the larger the number of people, the more the mob mentality is likely to take over. just an unscientific observation: OSU fans are more willing to descend upon their home city (i.e. me driving from cleveland to columbus) as opposed to the decreased likelihood of a detroiter driving to Ann Arbor to partake. There truly is something magical about the air on columbus in game day. (maybe its the booze, no wait, it is the booze). Ann Arbor just doesn't seem to have that magic.
November 15, 200618 yr ^But they do have the Borders Headquarters and nearby Domino Farms. "You don't just walk into a bar and mix it up by calling a girl fat" - buildingcincinnati speaking about new forumers

It's awesome to wake up on a Saturday morning to the sound of "OH!" "IO!" all up and down High Street. I am really missing that Columbus game-day atmosphere this year. Even worse, I have to work during the game! I'll miss the whole thing. I'm seeing entirely too much Michigan praise in this thread, come on, this is UrbanOHIO! :x What's wrong with you guys? :? Support the team from Ohio! :whip: On a related note, I noticed a disproportionately large amount of Michigan fans in Columbus when I lived there... but I soon realized most of those were probably just turning to the other side out of pure spite and resentment about OSU's dominance in the city. Some people think it's cool to stand out that way I guess... move to Michigan if you love it so much, I say! I think it's going to be a great game, but Ohio State will win!

My biggest beef with OSU fans--they can't distinguish between the University and the State (either OSU/Ohio or UM/Michigan). Since I live in DC now, does that mean I should be a hardcore Georgetown fan??? Asinine. And for the record, I loved Michigan enough that I lived there for five years, got the diploma and the t-shirt. ;-)
November 15, 200618 yr I'm sure glad that OSU students learn how to spell O-H-I-O in only four years. In return, I'm glad the Michigan fans like to give an action to a color. Since I live in DC now, does that mean I should be a hardcore Georgetown fan??? Asinine. It's a state school. Common logic would dictate that a majority of the population would support a UM/MSU or an OSU/OU. It's like being from Cleveland and liking the Browns. Sure, not EVERYBODY supports them but a large percentage do. It isn't asinine to assume so but statistical logic. And for the record, I loved Michigan enough that I lived there for five years, got the diploma and the t-shirt. Clearly ;).
