I don't think it'll be a 30-point blowout, but the Badgers showed weaknesses at Illinois. OSU also was getting gashed by Northwestern's run game at times and that's UW's bread and butter. Hopefully everyone is back healthy to help out. Probably a bit of a slug fest until the 2nd quarter when the offense breaks it open. Very Stable Genius
October 23, 20195 yr 29 minutes ago, Toddguy said: So what do people think of the upcoming match between OSU and Wisconsin? I don't want to sound like an anime character, but: "Finally! A worthy opponent!" No, seriously, our closest two games this season have been Michigan State and Florida Atlantic. Thus far this season, we have been playing games where wins don't really matter and losses would have been fatal. (Everyone yawns that we blew out Miami, but Miami beating us would have made us a laughingstock.) It's about time we played a game where a win could actually impress people.
October 23, 20195 yr I am a bit nervous considering the Badgers lost and are going to be really pissed off and yeah they are a worthy opponent-that is why I am nervous already as we head into the nitty gritty part of the season. I almost wish they had won coming.
October 23, 20195 yr Ohio State looks really really strong this year, almost better than the last few years. Fields is the real deal. I was surprised how badly they blew out NW who always plays tough. I am curious how the games go against PSU and Michigan. I think OSU should handle Wisconsin but it may be something like 35-28 or 31-42. I am not sure what the line is, Wisky will definitely be the toughest test yet, I just don't see any possible scenario for a reason to have concern they won't win and be in control the whole game. Alas, no one though Illinois would beat Wisconsin, but I don't think that applies here, OSU too strong.
October 25, 20195 yr On 10/23/2019 at 9:55 AM, Toddguy said: So what do people think of the upcoming match between OSU and Wisconsin? Personally, I think the game will come down to how Wisconsin plays. What I mean is that if OSU keeps at their high-level of recent play, then we know what we'll get from them. And I kinda feel like the Buckeyes are on a mission this year after one-game letdowns at Iowa in 2017 and Purdue in 2018 kept them out of the CFB playoffs. Plus I also kinda believe that Day and his new defensive coaches are doing a tremendous job and won't let another letdown happen this year. So I'm looking at Wisconsin and the way Wisconsin teams are. They don't wow you with the 4- and 5-star recruits, but they do get 3-star players that fit into the "Wisconsin Way" of playing. The Wisconsin Way produces great offensive lines and great running backs. It also produces great defensive lines and stout defenses. The one thing the Wisconsin Way lacks though, is top-quality QB's. One year they got Russell Wilson as a QB grad transfer, and man was their offense great. But most of the time their QB's are just adequate game managers. And that's what they have this year. So I think for Wisconsin to win on Saturday, they'll need OSU to make some mistakes. Maybe a lot of mistakes. And then Wisconsin will need to play a nearly flawless game where they can ground-and-pound and not need to rely on their passing game. I'm hopeful that tomorrow's game won't turn out like that - so I'm looking for a Buckeye victory where the margin of victory will be determined by how well the Badgers play.
October 25, 20195 yr That plays into both of our strengths, actually, but probably helps Wisconsin overall simply because of the unpredictability it gives and also AFAIK their receivers aren't quite as elite in the open field as ours have become. But rain and mud tend to favor the run game and the offensive line. It's easier to push a guy back and open a hole if he can't set his feet reliably, and it's harder for a defensive end to get around the side of the pocket because guys that size have more trouble cornering on bad footing. Rain is hell on the passing and kicking games, though. Haubeil won't have a 55-yarder in the rain.

October 26, 20195 yr WEEK 8: OHIO STATE 38 - WISCONSIN 7 https://www.elevenwarriors.com/ohio-state-football/2019/10/108151/ohio-state-turns-first-half-defensive-battle-into-second-half-blowout-win-defeating-wisconsin-38-7 https://www.espn.com/college-football/boxscore?gameId=401112254 It took a little longer for the Buckeyes to get going against the Badgers. However, once they did in the second half, they steamrolled Wisconsin. Fields threw for 2 TD's and ran for another. Dobbins had 20 carries for 163 yards and 2 TD's plus 3 receptions for 58 yards. But the Fox announcers couldn't stop raving about Chase Young. Young had 5 TFL and 4 sacks - one of which caused a fumble recovered when the Badgers were driving in Buckeye territory in the second half to help seal the victory. The Buckeye defense bottled up WIS RB Jonathan Taylor on 20 carries for 52 yards, and held the WIS offense to only 191 total yards. A dominant win against a quality opponent on national TV. Well done!
October 27, 20195 yr FAU, Week One, came as close as anyone else so far this year. 24 points down. I am sure there have been others, but the last time I saw a team dominate so thoroughly on the scoreboard was my high school alma mater their state championship year. This includes games against two top 25 opponents. With one other loss between them.
October 28, 20195 yr It's perhaps unique that the one of the two best offensive players wears the same number as the best defensive player.

October 28, 20195 yr Man, Ohio State continues it's mission. They still have PSU and UM left. UM looks like it is hitting it's stride a bit better and PSU looks tough, but neither team I don't think can keep up with OSU. This year it seems OSU has a chip on their shoulder and is playing angry, and they start breaking out in the second half with the constant pressure they are putting on teams as we saw vs. Wisconsin. In my mind, they look like the best team in the nation so far, them and LSU. Still some tough games ahead, but I like their chances of going undefeated, I don't see either PSU or UM being able to match up with them.

November 8, 20195 yr Oh for f**** sake(!) In a brief statement released Friday morning, the school confirmed the suspension, citing a “possible NCAA issue.” No length for his absence was given. Young later tweeted his own statement in which he said that he “made a mistake last year by accepting a loan from a family friend,” the source of the issue. He noted that he had known the person prior to enrolling at Ohio State in 2017 and that the loan was later repaid. “I’m working with the University and NCAA to get back on the field as soon as possible,” he added. “I want to thank my family, teammates, coaches, and the whole Ohio State community for all the love and support.” “Tim Nevius, a New York-based attorney and former NCAA investigator, wrote in a tweet that he was working with Young to restore his eligibility. He referred to the loan as a “small loan.” No amount was specified.” Young, a junior, is considered one of the top players in college football and the possible No. 1 overall pick in the NFL draft next year should he file for early entry. When the unbeaten Buckeyes were announced as the No. 1 ranked team in the first College Football Playoff ratings this week, Rob Mullens, the chair of the selection committee, said Young had bolstered their case for the top spot, referring to him “as probably the best defensive player in the country.”

No problem for this game. Another 70+ game for the offense. Another dominant game for the defense. Fields and Dobbins (plus most if not all of the first-string offense and defense) sat out the entire second half.
November 11, 20195 yr On to some Chase Young news: https://www.espn.com/college-football/story/_/id/28040392/sources-ohio-state-expects-4-game-ban-chase-young -- According to this ESPN report, OSU is expecting a four-game suspension for Chase Young. However, the Buckeyes are hoping that an appeal of Young's case might yield a reduction in the number of games and that expect to hear by sometime later this week the decision on Young's appeal. The length of the suspension is tied to the monetary value of the loan Young said he took out in 2018, a loan he says he has since repaid. https://www.buckeyextra.com/news/20191108/chase-youngs-suspension-likely-related-to-loan-for-his-family-to-attend-rose-bowl -- According to this report from the Dispatch, it is believed that the loan was used to pay for airfare for Young’s family to attend the Rose Bowl on New Year’s Day. If Ohio State had been in the College Football Playoff, such expenses would have been covered by a special fund to defray costs for players’ families. But because the Rose Bowl wasn’t a playoff game, families of players received a smaller reimbursement. The Dispatch report also says, "Ohio State was tipped off about the loan the day after the Wisconsin game on Oct. 26. When OSU notified Young, he was fully cooperative and provided documentation regarding the loan and that it had been repaid." "The timing is significant because, if true, Ohio State did not knowingly play a player suspected of committing an NCAA violation. That’s likely to eliminate the possibility that the program would face penalties from playing Young until now." The Dispatch further reports, "Based on NCAA Bylaw 16 guidelines for violations that occurred in 2018, an improper benefit of $200-$400 would result in a suspension of 10 percent of the team’s season. That would be a one-game suspension. If the loan was between $401 and $700, the suspension would be 20 percent, and Young would have to sit out two games. Anything greater would be 30 percent, which would be a four-game suspension based on the number being rounded up from 3.6. That would keep him out of the Penn State and Michigan games." Also, "In one recent case, Alabama safety Ha Ha Clinton-Dix sat out two games in 2013 for taking a loan of less than $500 from one of the Crimson Tide’s assistant strength and conditioning coaches." So that's the current Chase Young suspension news.

November 11, 20195 yr Seriously, what purpose is served by this rule, and who set those limits? (And why the ever-living f*** is there not coverage for players' families to attend the Rose Bowl if the team makes it?!?! Why was this a family expense at all, regardless of whether Chase Young had to borrow to get his family there?) This system also absolutely reeks of bias against the poor. If it were my kid in the Rose Bowl (more likely to happen via the marching band than the football team, but whatevs), I could just buy my plane tickets. But a $500 since-repaid loan? FFS, I've done close to that for friends for Rock on the Range. And it's not like my kid (or theirs) was playing at RotR. And I guarantee you that none of us boring middle-aged professionals with dad bods were "trading on our likeness or image" when we did that. The rules are so strict in their fetishization of "amateurism" (an increasingly risible thing) that they forbid what to middle-class adults would be more like "basic human decency." I Googled out of curiosity: Young's dad retired as a police deputy in Virginia. No mention of whether his mother worked at all. https://www.cleveland.com/osu/2019/09/ohio-states-star-de-chase-young-following-his-familys-formula-to-success-from-athletics-to-law-enforcement.html
