I went to the Dominican Day parade.  It was different, very different.

When and where? I've always wanted to go to the one in NYC. And it was different like how? I'm assuming "wild and crazy" different because I know a few Domincan females and they're....ummm...sexually liberated. I don't know what it is in the Carribean Sea, but a lot of 'em seem to be that way.

In the BX.  On the Concourse.  Being PR, i kept thinking to myself, "Bitch, why did you let Mr. & Mrs. Thing 2 talk you into this?!"  Thing 2 is Domincan and grew up in the BX, right by Yankee stadium, so we were just going to his parents party.  When we got to his parents house it was like Santo Domingo had exploded in the BX.  Next thing I know, I had a bowl of platano Sancocho with Habaneros, Jalapenos & hot sauce and I was feeling good.  His mother knows how to make spicy food - the right way!  Although i think one of those women tried to poison me and my nephew and the other PR lady there.  The pescado con coco made sick as hell.

I hadnt planned on going to the parade as I know I would probably end up in an argument.  The parade itself, is very different than the PR parade.  It's more like a street fair.  It was big and grand like our parade.

Dominicans in general are hot lil things.  I always tease Mr. & Mrs. thing about only having one kid after being together for damn near 9 years, the way Mrs. Thing 2 put it on Thing 2.  Have you ever been to DR?  The women on the beach look like they are going to beauty pageants.  They are trying to catch and marry a man to get the hell of that island.

I like the 3D animated Barbie movies

I returned a Barbie movie to Schlockbuster once & rented a Lara Croft movie. I am assuming the clerk thought "breast fetish freak".....

BTW, competitive cheerleading is actually pretty awesome. Kinda like Pro Wrestling but a totally different vibe.

I love tacky reality TV, but "Toddlers and Tiaras" is where I draw the line!

Got my jalapeno Gouda cheese, Hot and Spicy cheez-its, Fruit and I'm ready for the Real Housewives finale part 2.

That video is *NOT* an exaggeration in the least.  Their only error was omitting a scene from that Irish public housing complex north of Charleston.  They don't extend the green line there FOR A REASON.

Wow....I thought this was a total spoof.

Influence and "Overrated" can be quite different in this subjective-turned-to-music-lord-knows-why thread.  The Beatles were without question one of the most influential bands in history.  Elvis may have pioneered black music into white homes but the Beatles took it up a notch with unique, unparalleled songwriting.  Of course, that isn't to say that many people (such as myself) can still say the Beatles were overrated as "rated" to begin with is perception.  I never cared for their songs nor melodies.  That doesn't imply those songs/melodies weren't globally, musically influential.  I don't care for them and thus, I find them overrated in terms of how I see people perceive their songs.  And I'm not talking their commercial hits.  The same exact argument can be made for Michael Jackson, Elvis, etc. but I actually enjoy Michael Jackson and Elvis, meh.

I think the Beatles were overrated after Sergeant Pepper and they developed what I call SDS (shit-don't-stink) Syndrome at that point.  They figured they could record anything and it would sell.  The same affliction has struck REM, Prince, and the Stones at different points in their careers.  I'd include Springsteen, but IMO he honestly doesn't care how some of his stuff sells.  He'd be just as happy being another Woodie Guthrie, playing his tunes without a pot to piss in or a window to throw it out.  I actually respect him for that, even though I'm not a fan of his folkier stuff and I'm a huge fan of his more mainstream songs.

However, I would not call the Beatles "overrated" based on their earlier music and based on the fact that Lennon and McCartney wrote most of their songs.

Elvis Presley, on the other hand, was way overrated.  There were no doubt hundreds of guys in the South that could have been him.  He's the one Colonel Parker (the true genius behind the Elvis phenomenon) picked.  Elvis wasn't the Beatles of his time, he was the Monkees.

The Beatles are definitely overrated.  Sgt Pepper is a decent record, but it is half filler tracks like Lovely Rita Meter Maid. It's crushed in every respect except unit sales by The Velvet Underground's first record, which was released at the same time.  The Beach Boys Smile is finally being released in a few weeks after a 43-year delay, which again was infinitely more creative than any Beatles album.

I do really like I am the Walrus, but it's not on Sgt Pepper.

I wasn't aware Kim Kardashian was married.  Apparently it was a big deal I guess.

Child this was a "joke" from the start. We were all saying, "Kim and another brotha.  How long will this last?"

MTS is my cultural blasphemy.

The "wedding as reality show" had already been done by Bam Margera.....much better.

On the real, though...UrbanOhio is my cultural blasphemy. I do not go around telling people I post on here! LOL

OK, I think I understand the concept of this thread, and I've got one:

I never saw any reason for all of the hype over Quentin Tarantino's movies.  It seemed like a giant bandwagon in the '90s.  Maybe I'm just too obtuse to "get" what he's getting at, but I thought that the two films which I did see were too dependent on shock value, and not congruent with reality - as if they were the fantasies of an outsider.  They both also followed the same formula to a tee.

..same here.

I think back to something like Kubrick's Clockwork Orange, which was pretty violent (for its time, and the violence was noted when the movie came out), but there where other things going on, too, that made it an interesting movie.

I love the show, "The Big Bang Theory". The intelligence and wit of Sheldon that gets inevitably contrasted by his social ineptitude cracks me up.

I read Clockwork Orange before I saw the film, and was impressed at how well Kubrick used visuals to convey the whole chaotic, disordered nature of what I had read.

Well...you picked the right thread for that comment. I'll give you that.

Do little kid shows count?  Even (Especially?) if mommy and I make comments which would be unsuitable it Ardyn could understand them?

If so, check out "Star" on the Sprout Network's nighttime show and tell me SpongeBob and Patrick didn't reproduce.....

And then there's "Amish Mafia"....a symbol of the bar Richard Branson searched for in his bathyscaphe.

I just had to pull off on the Sissonville, WVa exit this past weekend to look around...... kind of disappointed to not find anyone muddin'

The South Park episode where Branson sought the bar featured HBB eventually having a fat kid fight with Eric Cartman.  Parker and Stone may currently be the sharpest of our cultural satirists.

CBC we finally get to see the Guidice vs Gorga fight!

And of course Teresa will blame everyone else for this!

Melissa is a gold digger but Teresa is a straight psycho...

The spray on hair was a nice twist...

Melissa is a gold digger but Teresa is a straight psycho...

I don't think Melissa is a gold digger.  I think she loves her husband and she is making her own money.

Since season 1 and the Danielle issue, I said Teresa is crazy as phuck!  Now it's all come out.
