Good luck to Miami of Ohio against Boston U in the NCAA Men's Hockey Championship game.  The Frozen Four finale is on ESPN at 7PM tonight (Sat. 4/11/09).

RedHawks facing formidable foe in finals

Top-ranked Boston University 20-1-3 since Jan. 16

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Earlier this week Miami University hockey coach Enrico Blasi tried without much luck to convince the media that his RedHawks should be considered the underdog in their NCAA Frozen Four game against Bemidji State.  After a 4-1 victory over the Beavers, Miami has another Frozen Four game and this time, Blasi won’t have trouble convincing anyone.  If the RedHawks want to win the school’s first NCAA championship tonight, April 11, they’ll have to do it against the team universally acclaimed as the deepest, most talented team in college hockey.

The Boston Terriers, the NCAA Tournament’s overall No. 1 seed, came from behind to beat Vermont 5-4 in the second semifinal Thursday.  That victory makes the Terriers 20-1-3 since Jan. 16.  They are undefeated (16-0-2) in their last 18 games away from home.  This will be Boston’s 10th appearance in the national championship game.

GO SKINS!!!  (That just tells you how old and politically incorrect I am)

GO HAWKS/SKINS!

They actually play in the CCHA, with the likes of Notre Dame, Michigan, Michigan State, Ohio State, BGSU and others.  Real tough division.  Should be fun to watch down here tonight.  Their coach, Enrico Blasi, really built up a great program.  This is supposed to be a "rebuilding" year, so it's been a hell of a season for being a rebuilding season.  They've acquired the nickname of "The Brotherhood" and are really the only sports team that ever matters here.  First time a Miami team has ever been in a championship game in any sport, which is absolutely amazing to me.  CAN'T WAIT! GO MIAMI!!

this is thee most exciting game/tournament in college sports hands down, blows away the watered down pro game. very exciting, i enjoyed the whole game, even if it broke my heart for miami. i am not gonna say the "c" word, i feel too bad for them, but they did. aww well. anyway congrats to miami for even being in that enviable position, it will only help recruiting in the future.

Great game, feel bad for my friends who went to MU, but damn.. what a choke job..

BU stuns Miami (OH) in OT to capture NCAA title

Exciting game but I feel bad for Miami U.  After Miami builds up a 3-1 lead in the third period, Boston U pulls their goalie with 3 minutes left in regulation.  Boston scores two goals in the final two minutes to send the game to overtime.  The last goal with only 17.4 seconds remaining!  So close!

The silence in the bars down here tonight was something I will never forget.  The guys deserved to win.  Heartbreaking.

They played a good game, but you don't "deserve" anything in sports, you earn it.  And they couldn't finish the deal.. 2 goal lead with a minute left, championship teams finish, and Miami didn't.  It was a great run, but they were beat by a better team.

Miami skated for 59 minutes as the better team and deserved to win the game.  Do not get me started on the 2 garbage goals (1 and 4) that Boston fell into.  There was no skill attributed to either goal.  A lucky carom off a Miami defensemen for both.  Can you equally tell me Boston deserved to win that game?  No, they were lucky, and anyone on either team knows it.

Yes, but luck is part of the game.. you aren't entitled to anything in sports, you earn it.. and BU earned the championship.

those were no garbage goals. no way. bu pulled the goalie, it's gonna happen every time in that situation. you gotta suck it up and be ready. miami was not. they relaxed. also, they were visibly tired. they did not clear the puck around the goal at the end when they had chances. then they compounded their letdown by continuing into ot shellshocked and flat. i've seen this happen in hockey lots of times. sure there was luck, but it was not one goal, it was two! you cant coast on a lead and when the goalie was out bu rose to the occasion to take advantage.

MAC hoops tourneys to be scaled back

by David Carducci

Record-Courier Reporter

The Mid-American Conference's inability to find a comparable home for its women's basketball tournament has forced a rollback of both men's and women's tournaments for the next two years.  In a move based on cost-cutting and gender equity, the conference's Council of Presidents voted last week to revert back to the formats used from 2000 to 2006, maintaining full 12-team fields, but with first-round games back at campus sites.  Every men's and women's tournament game had been played in Cleveland in each of the last three seasons.  Only the final eight teams in both tournaments will advance to Quicken Loans Arena in 2010 and 2011.

Last year, the men's tournament brought in close to $800,000 in revenue compared with $17,000 from the women's event.

According to Kent State University Athletic Director Laing Kennedy, the league could not consider cutting back the women's tournament without making the same changes to the men's.

Good job Title IX.  If women want equal treatment in sports as men, then they should have to compete against them.  The reason womens sports can't bring is as much as the mens is the same reason a D3 basketball game doesn't bring in as much as an NBA game.  People don't clamor for 7th graders getting equal spending on their basketball games as UNC games.

I saw that when I was looking at the standings yesterday...amazing.  When I was there, my football Saturdays usually consisted of going somewhere to watch Ohio State play.  I attended 1 OU football game while I was there...and that was in Huntington against Marshall to see Randy Moss play...

C-Dog,

Love the Harvard on the Hocking avatar, I have a similar tee-shirt!

I would someday like to see the majority of OHIO students and alumni actually cheer and care for Ohio THE State University rather then the bigger younger brother up Rt. 33. Ohio has always had one of the best attendance rates in the MAC for football, we just need the students to care more, but I think it is starting to change!

In decisive fashion too. 35-17 over a very good (I can't believe I'm saying this) Temple team. Now onto Detroit to play Central Michigan in the championship game!!!

Go Bobcats!

Now can they get Solich to stay? or has he rehabbed his career enough to move on?

Solich will stay. He has publicly stated that he wishes to retire at Ohio. He is probably less desirable to another school now that he is in his 60's anyway.

That's good to hear, OU will never be a national powerhouse but it is good to know that we will have winning and competive teams for the near future.

OU! OU! Go Bobcats!

pshhh. Kent State's taking it

MIAMI!  Go Redskins!

(err....I mean Redhawks!)

Anyone noticing extra fans/tourists walking around downtown yet?

I thought i heard or read somewhere that tickets were being gobbled up last week.  Actually, i think the field is really competitive this year.  I think the MAC is better than in recent years.  IN the past 5 years, only home teams would win, no matter how bad teams were...this year teams were actually winning on the road.

I will be down at Flannerys tomorrow night for the KSU pre-game party.

I use to go to pretty much every Eastern Michigan home game.  But I only made it to one this year :(

Ohio University made the NCAA tournament as a #14 seed.  They will play the #3 seed Georgetown on Thursday at Providence.

Hell, yeah!

Now I see why rider said C-Dawg was making tourney anticipation entertaining... Gray said it best: "Where ignorance is bliss, 'tis folly to be wise."

OU beat Georgetown... quite the upset!

wow.

Loves it!  Other than being an Ohioan, I have no attachment to OU. Way to go Bobcats!  Loved watching Vandy get upset as well.

WOW I just clowned my dad and all of his college buddies with the most jack ass text messages.  It has been a long time since Ewing and Iverson!  (Hibert is not the same caliber of pro)

p.s. could you imagine if O.U. makes it to a match up with Ohio State and wins?  They'll be no end to C-Dawgs comments.

edit: just got a text message from my buddy adetunji who plays for O.U. talking smack saying, "see you in the sweet 16!!!"... lets go buckeyes, take care of business.

I'll probably end up getting banned here! haha

If it ends up being Ohio versus Ohio State, I'm going to St. Louis come hell or high water. Or maybe Athens since I heard Court Street looked like Halloween tonight and they had to call in riot police during the middle of exam week.

As Dan Patrick said, "They don't need a reason to party in Athens, Ohio, but they have one tonight."

Sure don't, still looking for my dignity that I lost at "5 fest" two years ago.

Woot! The look on the Hoyas players faces were priceless. The best part was these players were all business like they were expecting to win big. No big eyes from the bright lights of the dance.

I think I lost (what ever little of) my dignity (that I might of had left) as soon as I received my acceptance letter!

fixed that for you.....

I put a little dignity away in a box in my closet at home for after graduation...

Don't push it but it's a great win for Ohio University.
