Posted December 22, 201014 yr I'm just being curious I guess. I have no real plans, and was wondering what the rest of UO had planned!
December 22, 201014 yr A movie day with my sister. We love movies so we contribute two movies each and watch all four of them until just after midnight. "In the souls of the people the grapes of wrath are filling and growing heavy, growing heavy for the vintage." -- John Steinbeck
December 22, 201014 yr We're heading to my in-laws in Florida. NYE happens to also be my mother-in-law's birthday - she's turning 60 - so we'll be celebrating with her and my wife's family. We have a 3 month old so I'm not sure if we'll actually make it to midnight, but I'm willing to bet I'll be up sometime between 3-5 am!
December 22, 201014 yr My girlfriend is throwing a party at her apartment here in Chicago. I'm really glad about this. For the past three years I've been paying the awful $100 fees to some club or bar where they give you their cheapest beer and watered down rum and cokes.
December 22, 201014 yr I'll be working 12hrs NYE and 12hrs on NYD so I'll stop by a friends house for a bit and then retire early.
December 22, 201014 yr I'll be in Richmond Va at my Brother-in-Law's house. Can't say that Cleveland is the best place to be on NYE. As everywhere else, cover charges go through the roof (at least they did when I used to go out) and the weather does not permit outdoor activities for the most part. If I stick around, I usually am either at home or go to a friend's house for a party. Best NYE I ever had in Cleveland was 2000 and that was insane. Downtown was packed. The Isley Brothers were playing on Public Square. The East Bank of the Flats was still up and running. And either it wasn't that cold or I was really that drunk. More likely the latter.
December 22, 201014 yr My problem is that I have to work the next day, but not until noon. I think I might walk up to the corner bar and have a beer. That's not pathetic, is it? :-D
December 22, 201014 yr Not at all. You might even meet someone you like and start the New Year off with a bang ;)
December 22, 201014 yr I will be working until 11, head home to watch the ball drop and most likely sleeping by 12:30!
December 22, 201014 yr If I were going to be in Cleveland for NYE I would eat a nice meal somewhere downtown and then head to Progerssive Field Snow Days for outdoor fun and fireworks. Looks like it's open until 1am for New Years.
December 22, 201014 yr XUMelanie and I would have a few people over at our downtown Cincinnati condo a few hours before midnight. Later we would walk down to Fountain Square to buy a beer from the ice bar, see the countdown on the big screen TV that hangs above Macys, cheer at midnight and enjoy the fireworks. Now that we have a lil' one, IF we still have our close friends over one of us will more than likely stay home :( with the baby. "Someone is sitting in the shade today because someone planted a tree a long time ago." - Warren Buffett
December 23, 201014 yr stay home with the baby. That. But I'm no sad face about it. Going out on amateur night, dressed up and freezing, battling the crowds and overpaying for bad buffet food never held much magic for me. We used to make a special meal and watch a movie, but now, kitchen activity has to die down to only things that are very, very quiet once the baby's asleep, so the special meal is out unless we order a pizza. Now that is pathetic. Even worse? I can't imagine staying up until midnight, unless it's like last night, when I spent 1.5 hours trying to get my teething, crabby toddler to sleep.
December 23, 201014 yr Have a nice mug of hot cocoa, and probably be asleep by 10pm. Now you are a party animal! "In the souls of the people the grapes of wrath are filling and growing heavy, growing heavy for the vintage." -- John Steinbeck
December 23, 201014 yr I'll be down in Charlotte visiting some friends. Yay for Charlotte (sarcasm).
December 23, 201014 yr Have a nice mug of hot cocoa, and probably be asleep by 10pm. Now you are a party animal! But I'll probably be up well before daylight on New Year's Day, starting 2011 with a clear head and an optimistic outlook and fixing another mug of hot cocoa to enjoy with my morning paper.
December 23, 201014 yr I won a luxury suite to see the undefeated (and unarguably best basketball team in Ohio) UC Bearcats. That should end around 10:30, then I'll head to a bar in Cincy, probably Neon's?
