November 2, 20204 yr I just found this on Daimler's website, and it's awesome. Hopefully they update it regularly once construction really gets going! https://8impact.com/360/thepeninsula/

November 3, 20204 yr What was there before COSI? I remember visiting the old one downtown when I was a kid but I have no idea what was at the edge of the peninsula back then.

The original portion of the current COSI building was Central High School. The school was closed in 1982 and the building was sold to the city in 1988. In 1994 it was leased to COSI who remodeled it and eventually moved into the location in 1999 from their old location on E Broad. Other than the old Vets Memorial (which was a concert venue), there hasn't really been much else on the peninsula for a very long time.

The roman style building facing the river is the original high school, the concrete wall facing Franklinton is actually the new portion that was added when it became COSI. No so fun story, the building was designed to focus attention on downtown while "hiding" Franklinton from guests. ^^ @cbussoccer beat me to it! Edited November 3, 20204 yr by DevolsDance

The Franklinton side was literally just vacant lots and then elevated railroad tracks. I'm not sure why you would want to focus anyone's attention on that when you have the downtown skyline as your other option.
November 3, 20204 yr ^The east Nashville waterfront was a giant scrap heap and barge loading terminal through the 1990s until it was bought out and redeveloped into the Titans Stadium, now called Nissan Stadium. What is planned in Franklintown and its connectivity to the downtown is way better than what exists in Nashville. There has been some talk about developing the huge surface lot that surrounds Nissan Stadium.

November 30, 20204 yr Daimler Group names anchor tenant Sorry, had to share this from Instagram. I didn’t see it anywhere else. Edited November 30, 20204 yr by VintageLife
November 30, 20204 yr Columbus Business First reported it, as well: Scioto Peninsula development lands Burgess & Niple Inc. as anchor tenant Engineering firm Burgess & Niple Inc. has signed a lease for 45,000 square feet in the new 240,000-square-foot speculative office building at The Peninsula development, which began construction this fall. The engineering and architecture company will occupy the space in April or May 2022. Burgess & Niple, the city's fourth-largest engineering firm, is today based near the Bethel Road corridor in northwest Columbus. But it opened its first office on East Broad Street a century ago, and Franklinton has been a focal point of work for the $75 million firm, which today counts 116 Central Ohio employees among a headcount of 335. November 30, 20204 yr It would be amazing if this thing leases out quickly before this first phase even finishes up so that they'll immediately have justification for starting the next phase with a lot more office space. Edited November 30, 20204 yr by TH3BUDDHA

I feel like the fact someone already signed on this early for a pretty good amount of space, is a great sign. The whole project will be awesome to follow. Just wish the parking garage was a better design.
December 4, 20204 yr Pretty historic! So glad they redid the river. That's allowing for all this to happen.

December 9, 20204 yr Can we get this kind of media hype team for the new Hilton and other major projects? As a thought, I wonder if this will finally help sway some movement on the riverfront cultural spot the city has long been trying to fill after the failed zoo levy.

I know there has been interest for years regarding a true Natural History museum for the city as well as another attempt at a DT aquarium, but COVID has me hesitant we will see any movement soon on these ideas. In normal times cultural attractions like museums are a hard/expensive to build from the ground up, in the current enviornment we may have to wait a lot longer sadly. I just hope they wait until the time is right, the financing is right, and the collection is right vs trying to add icing before the cake is fully baked.
December 14, 20204 yr I was really hoping for an update on Gravity 2.0 rather that information on the Gravity podcast... Gravity developer Brett Kaufman sees bright days ahead for Columbus STEVE WARTENBERG | FOR COLUMBUS CEO Brett Kaufman launched Kaufman Development in 2011, and has since developed an average of one project a year, including the ultra-modern Gravity in Franklinton, Market & Main in New Albany, 250 High and the reimagined LeVeque Tower. https://www.dispatch.com/story/business/2020/12/13/brett-kaufman-sees-growth-franklinton-arena-district-urban-areas/6507892002/

I drove through yesterday and had pretty much this same view and it got me super excited for the rest of the project. It's going to help make the riverfront feel like the center of downtown rather than the edge of downtown.
February 2, 20214 yr I saw this picture on Instagram from what appears to be the AEP building. It gives a nice sense of the scale of the Scioto Peninsula buildings compared to their surroundings.
February 2, 20214 yr I used to work in that white building on the left side of this picture (old Columbia Gas building) and we had an amazing view of Franklinton. I'm SO bummed that I'll never get to see these buildings go up from that perspective. We've been working from home since March and they ended their lease (we had 3 floors) so I will quite literally not be able to go back up there. Sigh...

February 2, 20214 yr the AEP building has provided some pretty great views over the years. Shame there doesn't appear to be an insider there to grab some more perspectives. I imagine there's some great shots of the crew stadium, north bank, etc as well.
