Posted December 29, 201014 yr I ran across this postcard and found this self-declaration oddly interesting. Take away the colonial-ish stuff and Mount Vernon is still extremely fascinating...perhaps more. Early settled by cultured families from Virginia, Mount Vernon has combined Southern charm with Northern enterprise. Many institutions, old and new, carry on this mixed tradition: 0.1. The Ohio Conference of Seventh Day Advertists; u.r. The First Knox National Bank; I.I. Mount Vernon City Hall; I.r. Knox County Court House. http://www.cardcow.com/17564/mount-vernon-ohios-colonial-city/ Knox County Courthouse City Hall Knox County Memorial Hall YMCA Post Office Curtis Inn First Knox National First Knox Fredericktown Branch Other Banks Randomness
December 29, 201014 yr I really like Mt Vernon- the old city has some great architecture. The newer "strip" along with the newer housing... meh. But I guess that's the case in most older cities. Overall- it's a nice town!
December 29, 201014 yr I swear I saw an old Bill Knapp's in there. "You don't just walk into a bar and mix it up by calling a girl fat" - buildingcincinnati speaking about new forumers
December 29, 201014 yr fun and i applaud any kind of creative, catchy advertising for anything ohio -- old or new you never see enough of ohio pimping itself out!
April 8, 20214 yr Had time to kill on my way back to Akron from Granville. Figured, what the hell? Let’s see how the county seat to the north has fared in the 11 years since this thread was updated. Posting this from Stein’s Brewing on Vine just southwest of Public Square. Which I can do because this place actually has plugs and USB outlets discreetly installed under the bar, so my phone isn’t as dead as it would otherwise be. Town is still stuck in the Colonial Era. Except for the Knox County Democratic Party, which is stuck in the basement (see last pic). 😁
