October 7, 20186 yr I don't want to come across as ungrateful, because I know a lot of hard work goes into keeping this forum running, and I really appreciate that. But I have to ask what the reason was for changing the forum software. To me, it seems like a downgrade, especially in usability on mobile. Also, the new software isn't free like the old software, correct? Edited October 7, 20186 yr by jam40jeff

This seems a lot more busy and less straightforward. I know that's the trend these days, as is change for the sake of change, but I'm a contrarian,

Also, this day in age more and more people access sites using their mobile device. With this software, you are accessing the same site/theme/information no matter what type of device you’re using. I personally feel it is light years better than SMF, though will come with a learning curve. To finish, yes it is a pay to use software.

October 8, 20186 yr Is there a way to mark threads as read from the activity stream? I spent a couple minutes going into every subforum to mark all threads as "Read" so old posts stop showing as unread activity. But obviously that's a temp solution. As people post in threads I don't care about they'll always show as unread posts. The activity filter lets me limit based on post date, but that's not an ideal option. edit: Never mind I found it. On desktop there is a link for "Mark site as read". For mobile it's under the 3 line pull-down menu. Edited October 8, 20186 yr by Mendo

October 8, 20186 yr It'll take some getting used to, and I'm having a few hiccups with mobile, but overall I really like the new interface. You guys did a great job.

Is it possible to add a theme that's not so extreme as the dark and light? Something in the middle like the blue color the previous forum used would be ideal. It was easy to read and easy on the eyes. Thanks.

October 9, 20186 yr The dark theme is better, but I agree- something like a light blue/grey middle ground theme would probably be even better. Really appreciate you looking into it, Rich!

Under the UrbanOhio logo, click "Activity", then "Content I Started" and another row of boxes appears... Click on "Ownership" and a drop down box appears with option for "Content I Have Posted In" - not sure if there's a way to default to that setting though...
October 9, 20186 yr You have to make a new activity stream with the settings you want. On desktop: Activity > My Activity Streams > Create New Stream. Give it a name and change whatever settings you want. For example change the Ownership option to "Content I have posted in". I also suggest changing the Clicking Unread Items setting to "Take me to the first unread comment" Then click Save Changes. Now you will see your new stream under the Activity > My Activity Streams menu under the Custom Streams group. When you are viewing your custom stream there is a little checkmark next to the name. Clicking this makes it your default. Though I can't tell wtf this does on desktop. You still have to manually pick the stream every time you open the forums.
October 11, 20186 yr When I paste a Twitter URL, it automatically embeds the Tweet... and it looks like some CSS is messed up, forcing the embedded tweet into a too-small height. See attached image where it shows the height is being set to 81px, and resulting in the embedded tweet being cropped. UPDATE: Tweets are loading now fine for me with the standard Twitter CSS/layout. Must've just been something flukey with my browser not pulling down the Twitter CSS files initially. Edited October 11, 20186 yr by jwulsin

I put a few in there for now until I’m able to make them a bit smaller to mesh better with the existing content. Also, the main site will be integrated with the forum software in the very near future. This will make everything more cohesive and natural looking.
October 12, 20186 yr It seems when we copy paste images into the text box, it creates unwanted duplicates, though when you try to delete the dupes in the attachments, it deletes both images. Whenever you delete the image in the textbox and post your reply to a thread the one duplicate deletes, but the image comes back because it's duplicated in the attachments which is entirely unwanted.

This works for me now as well, but is not nearly as efficient as the old site. I used to bookmark the "unread replies" page right on my toolbar. This works, but is MUCH slower to load than the old site. Also--if you click on "replies" from this page, it takes you to the LAST post in the thread, rather than the first UNREAD post in the thread (as the old site used to do). For me this is more frustrating than anything as I have to scroll up to get back to where I left off. Any workarounds for that?

December 13, 20186 yr Time to air my First World problems. Since the migration the UO site is still terribly slow to load for me compared to the old version. It feels much like the photo-heavy threads did on the old site, but on EVERY thread now. Currently running the latest Firefox 64.0. Any suggestions?
December 13, 20186 yr It's been very fast to load for me on Chrome. I don't know anything about computers, so I don't have any suggestions.
December 13, 20186 yr I use Chrome and it's extremely fast. The Christmas-y things added at the top may be slowing it down just a tad, but not as terribly slow as you say. The next update for this forum software is due within the month and will change a few things, most notably adding lazy-loading, which will help the photo threads a great deal. I'll keep an eye on the issue.
December 13, 20186 yr I just went over and signed in on Chrome. At first glance I would say it's definitely faster--so maybe it is a browser issue. Will stay on Chrome and see if it stays that way.
December 14, 20186 yr whoa — whats with this you can have 25 views then you have to sign up? i just hit that. why was that added? can it be gotten rid of? i cant jump in officially at work lol.

It's to encourage users to sign up, which gives them less ads and more control over content. Plus it encourages participation. Are you able to use the log in anonymously option while at work? This would would correct the issue if it's a possibility.

I can only speak for myself but if I hit a view limit, I'd be more likely to not come back, than register an account. Some folks lurk for a long time before registering to post.

The "less ads" and "control over content" (as well as the ability to post) should be enough to encourage most people to sign up. For those that don't, why drive them away?

January 10, 20196 yr On the old layout, there used to be a stats page - threads with the most replies, stuff like that. I can't seem to find it now. Is it gone? Very Stable Genius
