Piano bar or nice calm hangout in downtown Cleveland/Ohio City/Treamont?

I have been bartending for a few years on w6th and while its good money its not where I want to hang out. Im looking for a nice, calm bar to hang out at, also I would like something somewhat upscale. I live in Strongsville and like to go to Don's Pomery House and hang out at the pub downstairs which has a nice atmosphere and sometimes a Piano player. Im looking for something like that downtown/Ohio City/ Treamont area. I have been to Johnnys on W6th but I just dont care for the bar area. Anyone know of anything else ?

Are you looking for a place that's laid back to bartend at? Or to hang out as a patron?

The pub at Pomeroy is pretty laid back.  I guess my #1 rec would be the Velvet Tango Room. I think sometimes the back room there has a piano player, although it might be in the front, I was only there once.  Other than that I think the only places I could think of that might be like that which are in that area would be hotel bars.  There are laid back places, of course, but nothing I can think of that I'd brand both upscale and with a piano other than VTR.

You might check out the Parkview Lounge near W 65th and Detroit (Detroit-Shoreway area).  It's not upscale, but it's very comfortable. They have live music most nights. It's got an old, wood floor and a bowling machine, which are 2 signs of a nice, old feeling pub to me.  Or maybe Hotz' in Tremont. Or what about Flying Monkey? I was only there once but it sort of seemed upscale.

You could also try Lava Lounge. It's not piano-bar laid back but has a good feel to it, low key.

Try Ferris Steakhouse on Detroit Avenue, 8700 Detroit Avenue. It's very old school, and as recently as the 1990s, they had the same piano player playing there since the 1940s.

I hear they were going to relocate to The Carlyle on Lakewood's Gold Coast. But as far as I know that move hasn't taken place yet. Call first to confirm their location.....

Not sure you are going to find what you are looking for downtown because a chilled atmosphere has trouble making the rent.  But the places on E4th definitely have a different atmosphere than W6th.  OC and Tremont would be better bets I have to assume.

Come to think about it, there is a place in the alley between 55 and 75 Public Square (I believe) that might fit the bill.  The name escapes me at the moment and no piano player, but the one and only time I was in there it was a very chill atmosphere.

You're thinking of John Q's Steakhouse.

I did a Google search on "Cleveland Piano Bars" and found these (which means anyone could have found them!)...

Budapest Blonde, 6901 Rockside Road, Independence

The Velvet Tango Room, 2095 Columbus Rd, Tremont/Ohio City

Cafe Sausalito, The Galleria, 1301 E. 9th St., Downtown

Howl at the Moon, The Powerhouse, 2000 Sycamore St., West Bank of the Flats

O'Malley's Rockcliff, 2589 Wooster Rd., Rocky River

Map room, anything by gateway when it's not a game night - nicks, cleats, flannerys.  Most everything in Ohio city is mellow...abc, beir market, old angle.  Harbor Inn in the west flats migh be my favorite bar in Cleveland.  Tremont I don't know is well but I think pretty much everywhere there is a far cry (in a better way) from what is on w 6th.

^^not John Q's.  It is a bar.

Looking at googlemaps, it indicates the little fork for John Q's on the wrong side of 55 PS.  JQ's in the SW corner of that building.  The entrance for the place I am thinking of I believe is (or at least was) on west wall of 75 PS on W2nd maybe

I like 806 in Tremont for that kind of atmosphere.

Rockcliff in RR is an 'old folks home' as my Mom would refer to it.

Club 75 maybe?

That's possible. There is (was?) an invitation only club in that building where I interviewed a reputed organized crime figure who owned the building. That was about 10 years ago. Very quiet club and most of the all-male patrons whispered... Wonder why!

Definitely! :)

me too

The entrance to it is the street view you posted.  Right there where the white dry erase board is just beyond the pedestrian.  So it is in the northwest corner of the building.  I hesitate to say it is "Club 75", because there is a club in that building that is not part of the bar I am talking about.  I thought the place I am referencing has an irish name.

This might prove my point that it is the "chilled" bar in downtown Cleveland since it has been a full day and nobody (here on UO of all places ) knows the name of it for sure.

The name doesn't ring a bell, but that seems like it is the place.  I only went there once, before shooting over to CBS for the game.

I chime in for 806 and Velvet Tango (the piano's in the center room of the bar). Prosperity's not upscale, but when it's not Art Walk or Monday Karaoke, it's generally pretty chill ... Great atmosphere. And it's not in the area you're looking at, but Nighttown's pretty damn chill.
