I was wondering what some good ideas of cities for a possible summer vacation. Looking for a nice downtown.

We have been to

Chicago (loved it)

New York ( Nice, but enjoyed chicago more)

Pittsburgh (Nice City)

Washington DC (A nice trip)

Baltimore (Enjoyed the waterfront)

and Annapolis(Nice town)

Toronto (Enjoyed that)

And we have also been to Niagara Falls

Something not to far due to travel by car.

Travel by train is also a possibility.

Thanks!

I dont know if we should do this, the last person who asked for advice didn't use it.  You know who you are!  >:D :P :whip:

What about Philly?

How about Montreal?  I really, really enjoyed it.  It's an active, hip and very old city with a very slight language barrier.

Good suggestion!

Philadelphia seems like a good possibility, thanks! Boston seems interesting too, what do you guys think?, but the drive is getting a bit long.

I like Philly more than Boston.

Asheville, NC is great in the summertime and being up in the mountains it is not as hot as the rest of the state.  Downtown is probably better than you would assume.

Virginia Beach is another option with Richmond and Norfolk not that far apart.  You could shoot over to Williamsburg as well.

I love Boston in the summer too.

We really enjoyed Philly.  Good sight-seeing, and good nightlife.

Wow looks like a nice city. The whole passports might ruin that trip for now. But a good idea for the future.

Montreal has a historic district that beats the crap out of any in the states IMO.... save for maybe the French Quarter

Loved Montreal...awesome city.

You take that back.  We did end up using some of the things you suggested.  Besides, sometimes you have to let the wife decide what she wants to do and just go along for the ride.

Yeah, it was pretty amazing in scale.  The historic district was really cool... but a little mundane in how touristy it was.  Quecbec City is about 2 hours past Montreal.  Quebec was a neat city in it's medieval type charm but again, a bit too touristy.

Here are some pictures from our trip.  We stayed in the Latin Quarter which was really cool and a tad seedy.  I can take these down if they are distracting.

Historic District, cramped like German Village:

You can take the train from Cleveland to either city. Philadelphia may not require a change of trains by the time you travel.

Quebec was a neat city in it's mid-evil type charm but again, a bit too touristy.

Oh you kids kill me sometimes... It's MEDIEVAL!  :whip:

he he he he he he he he.  Let the wife decide?  What kind of man are you?  Who wears the pants in your family?!  One good backhand slap will straighten her out!

Did she say the "love, honor and obey" portion of your marriage vows?

Better to lose the battle and win the war.  Not that marriage is a war or anything...

^You're still single, right? Who'da thunk? >:D

Nope, a brotha always has one on the back burner!

yeah honestly for a family summer vacation i'd skip the cities for the mitt of michigan. seriously, for families nothing beats that. stay in traverse city and explore from there.

I second Northern Lower Michigan. M 22 is probably one my most favorite Scenic drives. It touches many areas and the coast line is beautiful. Also, Harbor Springs, Petoskey...Actually any place on the west side of Michigan is nice in the summer.

I triple the Michigan recommendation.  We have stayed in Grand Haven, and Ludington with the kids.  Both were great!  The beaches are what shocked me as the remind you of an oceans beach at some locations.

What are your guys thoughts on Vienna? This doesn't fit the requirements I made for this summer trip, still trying to decide where to go, but for a future trip?

Looks like you won't be going to Vienna since Big Clueless said he was there. ROFLMAO!

Your loss...but Vienna's gain.

You probably should think about getting a job first

^ what?
